The race was won in the first two furlongs. Excellent tactics and execution from Dettori and as soon as he slotted in behind the pacemaker it was an easy ride.
Golden Horn has proved himself a very good horse throughout the year, undoubtedly the star of the Flat season, with the International at York the only blemish.
I don’t agree with the comparisons with Sea The Stars. Sea The Stars and Zarkava are the best Arc winners of recent times for me.
Of the others, Treve and Free Eagle both ran pretty well having raced wide, while Found ran a very good race on their heels having been hampered 2f out.
October 5, 2015 at 18:53 #1214408Thank goodness the 116 rated Arabian Queen wasn’t in the race! Just goes to show how bad a ride that was at York.Golden Horn should have been unbeaten this year and would be rated very close to Sea the stars if he had.
Getting beaten at York (or “unbeaten”) has nothing to do with the rating given to Golden Horn Gord. Obvious he ran below form in the International. It’s the performance when at his best that matters to a rating, not consistency.
Value Is EverythingOctober 5, 2015 at 19:01 #1214409Fantastic Frankie rode a blinder and Golden Horn showed his class. Helped by awful performances by Jarnet on Treve and Benoist on her pacemaker. Golden Horn, Flintshire and New Bay all up with a less than furious pace. Treve doing well considering she came from so far back.
Value Is EverythingOctober 5, 2015 at 19:24 #1214413Backed Treve on the morning of the race after backing GH antepost thus eroding my profit. Just wish I had kept the faith.
Only my 3rd season in this game and GH is the best I have seen since following/betting in the sport.
October 6, 2015 at 11:10 #1214902I bet Treve at 4/1 after that, but the best value by far imo is 20/1 Golden Horn
Great tipping Joe, you’re on a roll.

October 6, 2015 at 14:47 #1215030I didn’t fancy Golden Horn for the Arc at all, thought he looked a bit temperamental at York and Leopardstown.
Pleased to see him show that I was all wrong with that, back over 12f on top of the ground. Without Flintshire in the race, we’d probably be rating Golden Horn a good 5lb higher than he is for slamming crack 3yo New Bay and top-class Treve.
Would still be wary about backing him going left handed again personally though, especially at likely cramped odds in the BC Turf where its not very difficult to get thrown out.
BUY THE SUN
October 6, 2015 at 20:50 #1215134TTC, oddly, watching him race after I’d backed him for the Arc (which I did after the Dante, mostly on the conviction that he actually wanted a trip, as well as looking a very good horse), he has struck me as not being quite right. Couldn’t really nail what it was: at one point he looked to me as if his front end had developed a bit more quickly than his back end. I’ve never been that impressed with his action; he’s not a typical floating top-of-the-ground mover, something that often comes with a high class engine, and one of the factors that convinced me he did not need fast ground.
But I wouldn’t have ruled out a temperament flaw. A significant ‘need’ for him appears to be getting settled within a couple of furlongs, and I believe that part of Dettori’s plan would have been to take it up early had he not managed to get him anchored properly on Sunday. By all accounts, he seems straightforward at home, but there occasionally seems to be something ‘not quite right’ on the track.
