See ‘Arkle’ thread. This was probably the most rubbished horse – admitedly mainly the same repeat offenders – on any of the Cheltenham threads. Hope there is enough humble pie to go round.

Certainly no humble pie here, he was my banker of the meeting, if ever a horse was going to appreciate a sharp two miles on genuine good ground it was him.

So he has one blip over a distance too far on ground too soft and suddenly he is a fast track specialist?

The official handicapper rates Tataniano the best novice in the country by some distance following his Aintree win.

Tataniano is now rated 166 (a rise of 22lbs this week). Somersby remains on 156, which was the rating he was given after the Arkle. Mad Max has been raised to 157 for his Aintree win.

The second highest rating amongst the 2M novices is actually French Opera on 158, so it’s a pity he missed the race on Saturday, as he would have provided a solid benchmakr for the value of the form.

To emphasise the tremendous strength of the Henderson novice chase team at present, he also has Long Run (158), Punchestowns (158), Burton Port (152)and Riverside Theatre (154).
