This is my Cheltenham Ante-Post Army.

1, Cue Card Backed him from 20/1 down for the Gold cup and if I can only have one winner its this fellow as he would have hosed up last year.Bristol de Mai at 25/1 is my e/w selection.

2,Black Hercules for the Ryanair was my No2.I hadn’t lost faith in him but his form this year really was bad so not shocked he’s not running..I’d have to go with Uxizandre now to recoup my losses.

3, Petit Mouchoir backed him from 480’s down for the Champion hurdle and I’ll take 3rd place now.Footpad at 50’s e/w is my danger but I wont complain if he reverses form with my Grey.

4, Holywell 20’s and 16’s e/w for a repeat win in the ‘Ultima’,If he turns up at Cheltenham in the same form he’s managed to for the past 3 years he’s the one to beat in this.Noble Endeavour 16/1 would be my e/w danger.

5, Another Hero 20/1 e/w has to go for the Kim Muir off 136 and I can see him being hammered into about 6/1 fav come the day.My record in this is phenomenal. B-)

6, West Approach I still cant believe the ride Ruby gave him last time out.I dont mind which race this fellow goes for as I have him down as banker material for both the ‘Albert bartlett’ 16/1 down and ‘The Stayers’ 80’s down with 20’s without the fav..

7, Messire des Obeaux 16/1 e/w for the ‘Neptune’,this fellow should be single figures for this but is still available at 12/1,solid e/w bet on a horse I like a lot.

8, Alpha des Obeaux 25’s down for RSA and if he actually turns up ‘Might Bite’ will have a race on his hands, this fellows ‘Thistlecrack’ form makes him another banker for me.

9,Bouvreuil 16/1 e/w for ‘The Plate’ I still think there’s enough improvement in him to win this fresh.

10, Champers on Ice 16/1 for the 4m race would be my idea for him,he certainly looked like this would suit last time out anyway.

11, Cause for Causes I cant believe connections are going for the Cross-Country race but at 12/1 I think he’s still too good for the opposition, more than just a pipe-opener for the National imo.

12, Whisper 16/1 down for the ‘JLT’ is my idea of the winner but I have huge respect for both Top Notch and Disko.

13, Defi du Seuil 16/1 e/w for ‘The Triumph’.I’ve long thought this was this years winner and cant oppose him with anything.

14, Peace and co 14/1,for the ‘County hurdle’.Another horse I’ve always liked and he’s handicapped to win this,he’s better than a handicapper.

15, Daphne du clos is my idea of the ‘Bumper’ winner,8/1 2nd fav now and has strong claims.

16, Eastlake 25/1 for the ‘Grand annual’ a race he’s ran well in before and he’s still capable of a bold show.

17, Modus 14/1 for the ‘Coral Cup’ is my choice for what is always a tricky handicap.

18, Tobefair, not had a penny on him but I’d love to see this remarkable horse win the ‘Pertemps’.

19, Capitaine I’ve backed this fellow for the ‘Supreme’ but it would be more luck than judgement if he won it after his recent efforts,I’d like to see Ballyandy and Movewiththetimes renew rivalry in this too.

    Whisper going RSA

Have you any idea what to make of the last race on the first day? Close Brothers Novice Handicap?

Think Bouvreuil and Another hero are good shouts; will follow you in on that. Have Yorky at 3s for The JLT so I’ve no interest in anything else there.

Tend to agree on Peace & Co also. What you make of Ivanovic Gorbatov? I smell a rat there. Think he’s acting up to get a good mark for The County also

Going with Martello Tower in the 4 miler and The Druids Nephew in the Ultima

Is that confirmed ‘Vautour’,Whisper going for the RSA?,he’s a 3m horse at Liverpool not Cheltenham. As for Ivanovic Gorbatov I agree. You cant believe he won last years ‘Triumph’ against good horses and has been stuffed this season…The Good ground excuse will be played at Cheltenham no doubt..Hargam is another who could be a plot horse but one things for sure if they are money talkin will let the cat out the bag.As for the ‘Close Brothers’ race I will probably back Potters legend 25/1 with Betfred, looks generous.

Obviously I’m also on ADO from 33s down.

But there’s some others there that look good bets to me. Cue Card, Peace and Co, Modus, Uxizandre and ToBeFair all look good shouts to me.

Always struggle in the handicaps at Cheltenham bar one or two.

Might just follow you in with Another Hero as I don’t have a good record at all in the race and it looks a real puzzler to me. You seem confident enough for me to probably play him myself.

    Good luck

When did you get those 25s? And Middle_Of_March, you got 33s??? Huh????

9,Bouvreuil 16/1 e/w for ‘The Plate’ I still think there’s enough improvement in him to win this fresh.

Lol you really don’t like giving up on horses you’ve backed in the past. Personally I’d like to see Bouvreuil stepped up to 3m, I think he lacks the gears for 2m5.

11, Cause for Causes I cant believe connections are going for the Cross-Country race but at 12/1

I am absolutely baffled by it. I can only assume they have something else in the race that they think is better handicapped.

13, Defi du Seuil 16/1 e/w for ‘The Triumph’.I’ve long thought this was this years winner and cant oppose him with anything.

I would love to oppose him, but with what!?!

14, Peace and co 14/1,for the ‘County hurdle’.Another horse I’ve always liked and he’s handicapped to win this,he’s better than a handicapper.

So will be about 10 others! Anyway, you’ve definitely got this one wrong. Sorry.

Your army is a strong foundation for the festival TAPK, you should have a lot of fun with your troops! I will be backing Cue Card, Nicky Henderson is leaning towards the RSA with Whisper and surely the Topham will be the target for Eastlake? Best of luck.

Yeah he was 33s way way early this season.

I’ve been on him at 33s (coral were one of those) very early this season. And then 25s down.

Some good looking prices there Gord. :good:
However, is this giving a fair impression of your bets?
Any chance of including all the ante-post bets you’ve put up on TRF – the ones you’ve already lost too?
Black Hercules and Thistlecrack for the Gold Cup, Top Notch Arkle etc, etc.
Is Whisper going to be deleted from your OP if he does not run?

imo This is important because: eg Say someone backs three horses @ 20/1 to win the same amount ante-post (does not matter if it’s in one or three races). If only one of the three horses turns up and is available on the day at 13/2… Then in reality the day of race punter has a better bet.

    Ante-post punter:
    £100 @ 20/1 loser
    £100 @ 20/1 loser
    £100 @ 20/1 winner £2100 returned
    £300 staked in all
    £1800 Profit

    Day Of Race punter:
    £300 @ 13/2 winner £2250 returned
    £300 staked in all
    £1950 Profit

It might seem as if an ante-post punter regularly getting much bigger prices on those that actually run is achieving better bets/prices/value. But if the ante-post punter has also lost a lot of money on non-runners in other races he/she may not be getting as good value as a day of race or another ante-post punter getting “shorter” prices but with fewer non-runner losers.

I know you wouldn’t want to create a false impression of your ability.

    Good luck.

Good luck with your choices, you’ve got a whole Battalion there Gord.

If Tobefair comes home there won’t be a dry eye in the house and I’ll be rooting for Bristol De Mai to win the Gold Cup but I won’t mind if he’s beaten by Cue Card…just let them all come home sound and safe   ..Jac

Completely agree with Ginger here. It can be deceptive as I know from personal experience, I might put 500 on a golf tournament, backing several runners, you get a winner at 100-1 but only stick a tenner on so therefore it’s basically like punting 500 at evs.

Still best of luck with your selections anyway TAPK, I’m sure you’ll have a lot of winners as always :good:

This is exactly why I’ve not been loading up on my 4 National fancies all year. 4 33/1 shots = 7/1.

Ginge, you know aswell as anyone my ‘ability’ is legendary but because you are obsessed with numbers your request is my demand, you will have to bear with me here mind as I have had over £4000 worth of Ante-Post bets since the day Cheltenham finished last March. Not all for this years festival I hasten to add :mail: :mail: :mail:
