I’m afraid I fell for the ‘Cooldine’ feeling too with ‘Mikael’ but I believe

    Ballycasey

is better than both.Having said that I’m not totally convinced he’s a stayer,he could be a ‘Ryanair’ horse rather than a Gold cup sort next year.I do rate

    Carlingford Lough

    as the better staying prospect.
I see AP is struggling to make his mind up between

    Jezki

    and

    My Tent or Yours

!! I have the same problem deciding whether to open a bottle of Bolly RD or Sainsburys best!

    JLT Speciality Chase

    I bloody hope

    Shutthefrontdoor

doesn’t go for this even though a mark of 156 says he’s a player.Trouble is if connections think he can do a ‘Wichita Lineman’ his mark needs to drop considerably and thats not going to happen. No realistically the horse who should be trained for this is the one who beat my RSA selection in last years ‘Pertemps’ final in receipt of only 4lb and thats

    Holywell

,if both the Jackdaws Castle inmates ran then he’d be getting an incredible 22lb from his JP owned stablemate and thats incredible,it actually makes ‘Holywell’ a handicap snip who should get in most years off around 10-2. 16/1 is freely available about a Cheltenham horse who looks like a typical target sort Jonjo thrives on.’Merry King’ is well up in the forefront of the Ante-Post markets for this but he failed miserably in the race last year and off much the same mark I cant see him having the scope of my selection who’s been pretty well schooled this season.

    Edit,25/01/14.

    Holywell

jumped round Catterick the other day to further bolster confidence so all bodes well still for an entry in this.
    Selection,

    Holywell

    e/w 16/1.

I’ve had Shutthefrontdoor in mind for this for some time but I’m just looking at the race now and your selection Holywell has to have a big chance too depending on the mark given to him by the handicapper. Shutthefrontdoor off 146 would be my number one though, his form ahead of Sam Winner giving weight looks very good.

AP stated on ATR earlier today that ‘He’d probably ride

    MTOY

in the Champion hurdle’……….Shock, gasp, horror! Bit like me saying ‘If Ante-Post betting was a Lager I’d probably be a Carlsberg’.Of course he’s going to ride a horse who has still got 10lbs more improvement in him, nothing else has! As for ‘Our Conor’ being the same price as ‘MTOY’ for the Champion hurdle again thats like me and Ginge racing to 50,000 views on one of our threads and me giving him a 25,000 view head start and still winning.

The Cheltenham Handicap weights were published today and they make interesting reading.

    Shutthefrontdoor

gets in off bottom weight in the 3m Handicap Ch so 10/1 NRNB with Bet365 is worth taking.I see

    Ballycasey

is Paddy Powers 6/1fav for the Jewson…….20/1 elsewhere!

Jonjo still not divulging where next years Gold Cup winner

    Shutthefrontdoor

runs but at least he’s committed

    Taquin de Seul

to the ‘Jewson’ and like myself rates his chances highly.I expect a gamble on this fellow and wouldn’t be surprised to see him go off fav ‘Wonderful charm’ shouldn’t even be near him in the betting never mind 5/1 current fav.

I really agree about Wonderful Charm, think he’s a horse that could do well in big-field handicaps next year but don’t think he’s ‘classy’ enough to be up with the best of them in the Jewson. Been backing Taquin all year and it’d be foolish to stop now! He travels well, jumps well and has great speed at the finish, he also holds his own in a battle and has proven form going up the Cheltenham hill on more than one ocassion this season…..what more could you ask for!! As long as AP gets a big leap out of him at the last I can’t see him losing!

Good to see your confidence in

    Taquin

is like my own Ben,I dont fear ‘Oscar whiskey’ either. However I’d rather not see ‘Champagne Fever’ and worse still ‘Ballycasey’ in this both look perfect 21/2m sorts to me.

    Trifolium

will beat the former Grey over 2 miles in the Arkle and

    Shutthefrontdoor

could beat the latter in the RSA although Jonjo’s horse looks like going elsewhere sadly.

You don’t fear ‘The Cat’ then :?:

I’d fancy Taquin to get the better of Oscar Whisky and on form there’s not a lot between that pair and Wonderful Charm. If Taquin improves on his jumping his chance improves dramatically but if he puts in a mistake free round it will be an achievement!

Looks like Shutthef**kindoor is going exactly where I don’t want him and that’s against Foxrock in the four miler. Put him in the handicap chase Jonjo

Why shouldn’t Wonderful Charm be "near" Taquin Gord? :?

OW beat TDS by 3/4 length at level weights.
OW beat WC by 1/2 length but WC was trying to give 8 lbs.

On form TDS has to find quite a bit to beat WC.

Ginge,You have read my waffle for long enough now to know that TAPK doesn’t take form quite so literally as your goodself,Jonjo has stated exactly what I’ve preached for years and thats horses are trained with targets and in the course of such many a time a race in between is actually a farce,

    Taquin de seul

has ran a couple of those in his time and is geared up for the biggest day of his career this season because he’s a horse with way more potential than ‘Wonderful Charm’.As for

    Shutthefrontdoor

,his year is next year,he’s an even bigger baby than ‘Taquin’.TAPK knows!

2 long shots to contemplate in tricky handicaps but both will get a run:

County: art of payroll won’t be 25s after winning at leopards town Sunday!
M pipe cond: Cade du berlais at 33s will go close

Did you see Art of Payroll win? Paid for 3/4 of ante post bets, shame he won’t get a run at Festival as I’ve got £30 EW at 33s grrrrr

    Couple more to look at:

Coral Cup: Dermot Weld doesn’t send many over but when he does they run well so WAHEEB who has run against some decent types could run well at 33s.

Pertemps: Top Wood at 20s looks a nice EW chance.

NH Chase: Midnight Prayer will love the extreme distance and from a yard that does well in this race :-)

Finally I cannot believe 25s is freely available for Carrickboy in the Byrne!!
