Racing Post today trainer clearly states QM Chase is his only option and he won’t have any other entries, in a funny year the race could well be run to suit
January 21, 2014 at 23:06 #465537The style in which
Alderwood
won last years Grand annual tells us on Soft ground he has every chance of running 3rd to
Sprinter Sacre
and
Sire de Grugy
.From an Ante-Post perspective the 33/1 you took Gary was a brilliant bit of foresight, not only are you playing at big odds but there’s every chance that the above 2 big guns dont perform to their respective marks and thats if either actually get there.Should neither run then your fellow becomes a 6/1 shot and he’s a player. My own opinion on this race is to take a price about a horse now as I can see ‘Sprinter’ either not running or failing again due to the mystery illness. From a JP Mcmanus point of view though Like Tommy says I’d exploit ‘Alderwoods’ mark in the Grand annual again and run
Kid Cassidy
in the Champion Chase and hope for a miracle! My own idea of a big price player was
Somersby
………..then Hen says he hates Cheltenham!

Thanks for that GDC, save me wasting any cash on the handicap!
January 23, 2014 at 10:51 #465644Someone on another forum told me about Beshabar
but I don’t know the person well enough to say it’s definate and have heard nothing since it was mentioned. Trainers site isn’t exactly up to date either. Don’t want anyone to get their fingers burned backing him, but at the same time don’t want to give out false information.
January 26, 2014 at 19:18 #466152The Arkle
Now for my idea of a proper e/w Arkle horse at a price and thats
Trifolium
,at 25/1 he is the Dark horse of the race but more than that he’s trained by a shrewd judge in Charles Byrnes, whilst ‘Defy Logic’ and ‘Felix Yonger’ have put their hands on the table,’Trifolium’ has still to play his,he’s been learning the ‘Weapons Amnesty’ way rather than the ‘Solwhit’ way and this fellow who has ‘Supreme’ form around the course has always looked to me to be a Chaser in the making.
Selection,
Trifolium
,e/w 25/1
Just another one of my ‘Prophecies’!
January 27, 2014 at 13:07 #466216They have actually said now that Beshabar has been retired.

Shame Moe,he was a big brute of a horse who looked a proper National sort,he had his day in the Sun when winning the Scottish National.
Now then I’ve been asked "Whats your Cheltenham Banker this year then"? several times.I have several bankers each year and always at least one a day.I have been adamant for a long time that
My Tent or yours
is a Champion hurdler but its obvious that as much as I rate this fellow I have to respect
The New One
,I dont think anything else will trouble these two,I do believe the race will be won by one or the others mistakes by either Horse or Jockey. One horse I have also looked forward too this year was
Taquin de Seul
going novice chasing,I know he’s going to be entered in the big 3 Novice events but I beleive there’s only one race for him and thats the ‘Jewson’.I dont know where
Briar Hill
will run but to me he’s a serious horse wherever he goes over 21/2m+. I haven’t lost faith in
Shutthefrontdoor
either,he looks an ideal RSA sort but could be a ‘JLT’Chase type too.My ‘Dark’ horse for the meeting was
Trifolium
in the Arkle but he saw the light yesterday and has to come into the reckoning now.I have never feared one horse enough to put me off mine but ‘Bobs Worth’ is proving a pain in the A*se for my Gold Cup selection,
First Lieutenant
,at double figure prices still,he’s the e/w bet of the festival imo.
January 27, 2014 at 21:56 #466280I can see the Irish dominating this year’s festival and is reflected with my main hopes Felix Yonger, Hidden Cyclone and First Lieutenant. I also like Black Hercules in the bumper and Noble Prince in the Coral Cup, they have strong contenders in almost every race. I’ve always been a New One fan and wasn’t deterred by his Christmas defeat, if he kicks for home early enough though he may have the speed to prevail – he’d be my main domestic hope.

If I were you I’d be far less afraid of The New One and be more worried about your Tent being blown away by the high winds that come with the mighty son of Montjeu

I’m already looking forward to The Tent and The Power in next year’s Arkle
January 27, 2014 at 23:05 #466290I can see the Irish dominating this year’s festival and is reflected with my main hopes Felix Yonger,
Do you think
Felix Yonger
can beat the mighty
Trifolium
now the latter has put his cards on the table Rich?
Tommy,I do believeMy Tent or Yours
is a bigger certainty for the Arkle than the Champion hurdle,it might be 3rd year lucky for me and my 20/1 vouchers to collect as this years Champion hurdle has the makings of being a Classic.
January 28, 2014 at 17:36 #466352Yes, with the prospect of better ground I firmly believe FY can prevail. Whilst I respect Trifoliums most recent showing, I don’t think he’ll be able to repel the Mullins horse. Indeed, both they and Defy Logic have taken turns at beating one another of late so cannot rule anything out!

Definitely look the race of the meeting, not one I’ll be going in heavy on anything in but I’ll be roaring on the Hurricane, the most underrated 19 time Grade 1 winner of all time

Regarding Felix Yonger, it’s obvious Trifolium was given a stinker the first time they met and the hill at Navan can exaggerate the distances between horses but Felix travels much better on good ground. At any rate I’d like to see Felix run in the Jewson/JLT, plenty of stamina there and 10/1 NRFB looks huge! I hope Defy Logic can bounce back, ideally I’d like to see Mark Walsh back on board. Couldn’t be that confident anymore given he burst but on Christmas form he has the beating of Trifolium.
January 28, 2014 at 22:25 #466392Gord: I know you like Carrickboy for the Byrne but what about Tap Night? Given a somewhat quiet ride behind Wishful Thinking
January 29, 2014 at 16:03 #466445Gord: I know you like Carrickboy for the Byrne but what about Tap Night? Given a somewhat quiet ride behind Wishful Thinking

Gary I expected
Tap night
to beat ‘Double Ross’ on 18lb better terms than their ‘December Gold Cup’ run so my conclusion is he’s not the horse I thought he might be.For Lucinda to send him all the way down to Cheltenham for a bit of experience doesn’t wash with me as he had his ground that day and the festival ground shouldn’t play to his strengths, nah I’m in no hurry to back him again,I tip my hat to
Double Ross
for maintaining an upward curve and can see him as a player in something come festival time.
February 2, 2014 at 21:44 #466914Still plenty conundrums regarding who goes where in the Novice hurdle ranks
The Tullow Tank
, Supreme 8/1 v Neptune 14/1.
Faugheen
, Neptune 3/1 v Albert Bartlett 10/1.
Briar Hill
, was the Ante-Post fav all last year for the ‘Supreme’ certainly wont go for that though,Neptune 14/1 v Albert Bartlett 6/1.
The big question is where doesAnnie Power
go? The only way she runs in the Champion is if something happens to the ‘Fly’,I believe once she’s confirmed for the World hurdle she goes off 2/1 jt Fav with ‘Big Bucks’,those on at double figures have a bet and a half.
February 9, 2014 at 19:16 #467651What did the ‘Moriarty’ prove today? Well first and foremost the 3 that ran in it could easily change position over the 3m of the RSA.The horse to take from it imo is
Carlingford Lough
,he was the first to come under pressure but he’d have been the last to give in had there been a sufficient test of stamina.’Ballycasey’ could easily be a ‘Jewson’ sort,he has speed,’Don Cossack’ is no slouch either.3 very good horses but I like the 10/1 about Jp’s fellow after todays mishap.

The Don had everything in his favour today Gord and imo he has no chance of beating either Ballycasey or Carlingford Lough in an RSA. He just doesn’t stay well enough, and Ballycasey did him for speed too so that tells you all you need to know about his Cheltenham chances. I have never been in love with the horse but it was an effort in defeat behind Morning Assembly where I thought, this fella has plenty of speed and jumps super, could be a Jewson horse. But his two runs since then he has looked sluggish to me and I’d happily take him on with Felix Yonger or Ballycasey depending on where he goes. Carlingford Lough was coming with a run when he was squeezed at the last but I don’t think he’d have beaten the winner. He definitely has a chance in the RSA though as three miles should see him in a better light. The problem for him is Ballycasey was having only his second chase start today and looked different gravy, he stays very well and I’m beginning to get that Cooldine feeling now, having wondered where the hell he was for most of the winter
He’s not the soundest though so hopefully he’ll make it to Cheltenham in one piece, if he doesn’t I’ll probably be playing Carlingford as a super sub. - AuthorPosts
