Just before the off.
I would love Paco Boy to win this.
July 29, 2009 at 18:33 #241573Fair play to Rip Van Winkle finally he wins and upholds the form of the Eclipse.
Top notch performance from a very good horse. Just how good is Sea The Stars?
July 29, 2009 at 18:35 #241574Clever ride! Or a perfectly choreographed ploy perhaps?
July 29, 2009 at 18:36 #241575Good effort from the favourite…interesting tactically…spot on.
July 29, 2009 at 18:38 #241576Hope that silences the Sea The Stars doubters. Any chance of a rematch of the Eclipse at Leopardstown in September??

Excellent.
July 29, 2009 at 18:46 #241579AOB now winds several of us Forumites up by saying that RVW could have run in the July Cup . . . I think we’ve been here before . . .
One thing I would say is that I’d have liked Paco Boy to have been closer to the pace.
July 29, 2009 at 18:47 #241581This must be the first Group One for Galileo over a mile.So I guess that ends the arguement. We can hope for more Two Thousand runners from Galileo.
July 29, 2009 at 18:49 #241583AOB was almost rambling there in the post race chat with Alistair.
"I know of people say I’m always talking about it but…..speed, speed, speed, so much, Class and speeeed……and pace"
I really wish he’d let his horses do the talking sometimes. It’s getting quite annoying.

Paco Boy came from just as far back at Royal Ascot, Gerald – he wasn’t good enough today, simple as that.

Paco Boy would have finished further back if race closer to that pace. He’s a top class miler but doesn’t get THAT sort of mile.
July 29, 2009 at 18:53 #241586Heavens above, he’s finally awoken !
Just had to be on a day I opposed him.

Nevertheless, a superb performance.
"The classiest horse we’ve had", according to Aidan O’Brien.
Well, will they, won’t they, have the courage to take on Sea The Stars again ?
I have my doubts.
Gambling Only Pays When You're Winning
July 29, 2009 at 18:55 #241587I struggle to listen to Aidan to be honest. "Listen" is becoming the new "innit"

Every year he has a horse that is the best they’ve had so I wouldn’t pay too much attention to that. However Rip probably is as good a horses as anything he’s had, certainly on ratings.
July 29, 2009 at 19:07 #2415881: escapade, frolic
2 a: a tactic intended to embarrass or frustrate an opponent b: a devised or contrived move : stratagem <a ploy to get her to open the door — Robert B. Parker
MDeering , hardly appropriate
Goes to the front three out in a mile race. A ploy? One must go to the front sooner or later in order to win.Certainly frustrated the opposition. Perhaps I am missing something?July 29, 2009 at 19:09 #241589This must be the first Group One for Galileo over a mile.So I guess that ends the arguement. We can hope for more Two Thousand runners from Galileo.
Nightime and Lush Lashes both won Group 1s over a mile. This would be the first top-class miler he’s produced, though.
July 29, 2009 at 19:11 #241590very impressive, all over once Murtagh went for home. O’Brien also has Fame and Glory and Mastercraftsman to take on Sea the Stars
