Mike is a great judge at SP prices too
always in at the business end in all the competitions with a chanceBlackbeard to conquer the World
January 8, 2022 at 20:39 #1577168CH and Jonbon won’t be heading for the same race. I mean that’s impossible and I think JP knows that. No matter how fast the pace will be (or how slow), Jonbon will be found out at Cheltenham. He should be nowhere near Constitution Hill, who was highly impressive today. And I’m not talking winning distances, but the way he travelled and jumped. Looks like a Sprinter Sacre or Altior in the making, very quick, very efficient and very athletic. Jonbon is more like a tank to me. But, there are still two months to go and a lot of things could happen and looking at the future only their chasing careers will count.
Sir Gerhard was very dominant from the front, but he really got away from the field (at Leopardstown) as they came to the final furlong. He might be 2m5f horse in the making.
January 8, 2022 at 21:11 #1577170Wouldn’t be backing C H at such a short price yet.
Has to me quite a rounded action, so possibly at his best on very soft going. More so than Jonbon.
Also, a horse that put its best performance to date on heavy going in January is likely to stay 2 1/2 miles on less testing ground in March. More likely to stay than Jonbon.
Yes, there’s what connections say to take into account. However, the less it sounds as if Jonbon will go here the bigger price his owner will get.
Not saying Henderson will go elsewhere with C H, just that the odds currently available don’t look worth taking the chance. Especially if Jonbon runs to a similar level before Cheltenham.Value Is EverythingJanuary 8, 2022 at 21:43 #1577179“CH and Jonbon won’t be heading for the same race.”
Shishkin and Chantry House; Altior and Buveur d’air; Spirit Son and Sprinter Sacre. Nicky doesn’t mind running two good ‘uns against each other in the Supreme.
January 8, 2022 at 22:15 #1577185You could be right, green. by the way, it was some feat by AP that day to get Sprinter out of the first two.
January 8, 2022 at 22:41 #1577188The splits Constitution Hill showed late on on debut shows you he’s the gears for 2 miles Ginger. His timefigures have been better than Jonbons by a way.
CH looks a right tool but is obviously too short. Remember Shishkin went off 7/1!
Jonbon is a headstrong beast that needs to prove he’ll find and find well off the bridle – His brother Douvan wasn’t generous off it
His antics pre-race is a big worry and he hasn’t learnt much in his races so far pulling himself to the front both times over timber. You’ve also the big worry of Aidan ColemanA lot of water to go under this Supreme betting bridge yet – Moscow Flyer & Deloitte will open this up a lot more.
January 8, 2022 at 23:00 #1577193You’re right in that often Henderson’s horses do take each other on at the Cheltenham Festival, Green. However, that is usually when:
They both appear certain to be best at that trip…
And / or
Henderson has another horse for the alternative race…
And / or
An owner companion has a good chance in the alternative race
And / or
There’s a hot favourite for the other race to avoid.Currently Constitution Hill may well stay further.
Currently I don’t see Henderson having another horse with a good chance in the alternative race
Currently can not see J P McManus or Buckley having another with a good chance in the alternative race.
Currently there is no hot favourite in the alternative race.Value Is EverythingJanuary 8, 2022 at 23:12 #1577198” it was some feat by AP that day to get Sprinter out of the first two.”
He choked, got a wind op on AP’s advice then started winning all round himself.January 8, 2022 at 23:18 #1577201Good points GT and I know Hendo was happy for Chantry House to dodge Envoi Allen in their hurdling year and let Hobbs’ Sporting John have a go instead. I still think Nicky loves the Supreme a lot more than the Ballymore mind you.
January 8, 2022 at 23:25 #1577202“needs to prove he’ll find and find well off the bridle – His brother Douvan wasn’t generous off it ”
Are you basing that comment about Douvan on his second last ever run- the one after his Cheltenham fall and before a year and a half off?
January 8, 2022 at 23:46 #1577209No.
January 8, 2022 at 23:52 #1577210Which runs then?
January 9, 2022 at 05:27 #1577214Some quotes from Henderson…
“We had no idea about the ground – it was proper Sandown heavy ground. When he won there before it was good to soft, but pretty soft all the same.
I talked to Barry and Nico and we are pretty sure he is a two-miler. You are not going to run him on fast ground – and at Cheltenham you are not going to get fast ground. It never does these days.
We are in a very lucky situation that we have him and Jonbon at the moment. In any year, you’d be lucky enough to have one of them. They are very, very, very high class.”
Comparing the characteristics of his emerging superstars, Henderson said: “Jonbon is a seriously good horse – a seriously good horse – no mistaking that one whatsoever. This one must be as good as any, as well.
Constitution Hill is about the most laid-back horse I have ever come across. He is asleep. He is asleep in his box, he is asleep in his walk, he’ll sleep in a trot and asleep in a canter. Then you lob along and then you just pull it out and you push a button and we go.
Jonbon is the opposite. He is a bit hyper. We took him to Newbury for a racecourse canter. In the paddock he is sweating and on his toes and that’s him.
They are absolutely completely and utterly different characters. Certainly Cheltenham isn’t going to faze Constitution Hill. Cheltenham won’t faze Jonbon, because we will have protected him from that. We have done with earplugs and things like that, and it is the first race, which always helps.
At the moment, they both look like two-milers and if we had any strength this year, it would be in the novice hurdlers.
I really promise you, you run Jonbon and say ‘this is the real deal’ and you run that one today and you have to say ‘that was the real deal’.
They are not just hurdlers – these are chasers for the future, their life is in front of them. The Supreme is not what they were bought for, they were both bought as steeplechasers.
If you have got two, you are just very, very, very lucky. And don’t forget, there is a lot of water to go under the bridge between now and Cheltenham.”
January 9, 2022 at 15:30 #1577261The vibe I’m getting is that Constitution Hill and Jonbon will clash in this race. There’s a gossamer thread of form that connects both horses via Good Risk At All which puts them almost at level pegging.
Of the two, I’m with Constitution Hill all the way … even if the going turns good. His leg action looks similar to that of Kingman and so the going doesn’t raise any doubts as far as I’m concerned. After yesterday’s Tolwoth romp, the horse was barely breathing at how calm he was
January 10, 2022 at 18:43 #1577429The Cheveley Park owner mentioned today that the Supreme is the likely objective for Sir Gerhard.
January 10, 2022 at 20:23 #1577444Connections say Sir Gerard goes here I’m on
Anyone know if this intended targeted for an outsider in El Fabiolo?

January 10, 2022 at 20:40 #1577447VF- don’t know if you watch Off The Fence but Tony Keenan, who’s a good judge, wasn’t too keen on Sir Gerhard. Worth a watch if you get the chance.
