Un Atout just won in good style at Navan, jumped well in the main and looked to have any amount in hand. I really think he could be a special horse, 33/1 has hall gone but 25/1 still available with Skybet as I type, doubt it will last too long!
December 9, 2012 at 15:54 #422191Main opposition would have preferred better ground and over two seconds slower than the second division. Almost certainly be better over a longer trip. Very surprised if he turns up in a Supreme in which case 50/1 wouldn’t be generous.
December 9, 2012 at 16:34 #422195Well if he didn’t turn up can you tell me a price which would be generous?
If it was a slowly run race I’m guessing it was a sprint finish? Where the opposition (who are no mugs) couldn’t get him off the bridle. Fickle Fortune was 5th in the Punchestown Champion Bumper on soft-heavy while the going was also soft-heavy when Some Article hacked up in the Land Rover. Who’s to say he won’t prefer better ground himself.
He may well not run in the Supreme but with the likes of Don Cossack, Rule The World and Road To Riches in the same ownership they may want to keep them apart.
December 9, 2012 at 21:16 #422220Sorry for the confusion you are correct he wouldn’t be value at any price.
Time will tell but I think the two horses you mention will eventually prove to be better on a sounder surface. In Ireland it is harder to avoid softer ground so it is often a choice between running on unsuitable ground or staying in a box for long periods. Some horses can get away with it.
As for the batch of Gigginstown novices so far most of them shape like stayers and although they will no doubt try to separate them some will obviously miss Cheltenham in favour of Fairyhouse/Punchestown.
The Supreme is one of most difficult of the ante-post markets and until the formlines are drawn together there are any number of possible winners. At present the market pretty much reflects potential rather than achievement.
December 9, 2012 at 22:25 #422225Yeah I agree with all of that Stilvi. The Christmas period should tell use a lot hopefully, with the Grade 1 2 mile novice hurdle in Leopardstown hopefully giving an indication to the leading Irish fancies at any rate.
December 21, 2012 at 21:24 #423774I mentioned this as the likely target for Puffin Billy on the Neptune thread. Oliver Sherwood according to today’s quote is saying his Cheltenham target will depend on the ground. We know now that the first race of the Festival is not going to be run on ground faster than good to soft and despite finishing his races strongly the horse remains headstrong so it would not make much sense to both step up in class and experiment with the longer trip.

I can’t imagine him being aimed here. He surely seems the type to like more of a trip, with the Neptune being right up his street. I still, don’t think he’d win that though.
I like My Tent Or Yours but the price is ridiculous. If he wasn’t Nicky’s he’d surely be double the price.
I also like Un Atout and agree with Tommy that this dude could be a star but think he’ll definitely need more of a trip and think he’d rape the Neptune blindfolded.

December 22, 2012 at 00:24 #423818Pont Alexandre’s facile win last weekend could be a blessing for Un Atout. With Pone Alexandre and Champagne Fever, not to mention Twigline, for the longer races it could be that Un Atout will be kept to 2 miles. He’s entered against Jezki and Waaheb next week so hopefully they’ll all run.

Tommy I reckon Un Atout is grand and could be a Ryanair horse waiting to happen. Give it a few years and the Irish will break that duck. The scary thought for me is right now is I’m scared you might actually be right about
First Lieutenant
being this years’ Ryanair’s horse. I’ve got Gold Cup money on him!!
Anywho, I need more proof with this Pont Alexandre fella as I was never over the top taken with Don Cossack. I love your loyalty with the Irish horses though bud. Continue as you do as your Irish knowledge is crack golden I just hope Tidal Bay sweeps up and leaves up breathless on the 28th In the least offensive way possible I mean, my chips are down……
All the festive joy to you all while I’m drunk
December 22, 2012 at 01:16 #423825Yeah I’m still on the fence about Pont Alexandre too! The ground was atrocious but Busty Brown gives the form a solid look.
Thanks Boz, you could say I’m
too
loyal to the Irish horses though, sometimes guilty of overestimating their chances when they go to England (see next paragraph ).
Tidal Bay can win the Lexus as long as Sir Des Champs takes the King George The money’s starting to come for him and I hope we see something special
Enjoy your drink Boz, hope you’re not too hungover in the morning (as I’ve been all day ) Merry Christmas
December 29, 2012 at 19:00 #424719I’ve backed two, Waaheb at 12/1 and My Tent or Yours at 25/1. JP likes to have runners in this, and although both finished second in the week, will be better on good ground. Would back them both again, depending how the darts goes!
January 3, 2013 at 19:50 #425124Surpised no mention of Jezki, was very impressiv on last run and jockey expects him to get even better with good ground was à bit surprised to see 6/1 after his last run but has been backed into 4/1 i think he would be even shorter based on what we’ve seen if not for the unpredicibility of the supreme. Can he get me off to à good start at the festival for once?
January 4, 2013 at 20:36 #425272Totally agree Solar, mentioned this lovely horse to TAPK on his thread before that last run, Jessie Harrington knows a very good horse when she gets one, fingers crossed he makes it safe and sound coz good ground is right up his street
January 10, 2013 at 02:06 #425838I have backed two horses for this race, Jezki a few months ago and Cause of Causes, just this week @ 41/1 on Betfair. I think Jezki is class and will take a lot of beating and the reason for Cause of Causes is the way he finishes his races. With soft ground and an uphill finish, he could just get up on the line.
January 10, 2013 at 19:23 #425886Apparently Jezki has been purchased by JP Mcmanus. Must surely put a big question mark over how well thought of My Tent Or Yours is at this stage?
January 10, 2013 at 20:35 #425897Don’t forget Snake Eyes as well Boz, another McManus horse. Will one of them bypass the festival for Fairyhouse?

And Waaheb, he’s got a sackful!
