This is an awkward one for me, as it’s something that I would criticise others for, but I’ve bet Teahupoo for this at 12-1, and he’s now 6-1. I was hoping that someone else would start the thread, and I didn’t foresee Gaelic Warrior going chasing, so that’s the reason that I’m on with a long gone price
He was my nap for last year, and he just came up short.
To get in the spirit of things I’ve also bet Gaelic Warrior at 25-1, but I’m sure that Willie Mullins will already know that he’s got a chaser on his hands
October 21, 2023 at 18:55 #1667642I was gonna make a thread the other day when the gaelic news broke
But I couldn’t be bothered to go back 15 pages to see if VTC made one for it in 2007
Teahupoo has an excellent chance and should be the reigning champ but for a very strangely run race and Davy Russell deciding to slalom his way down the straight.
He was the only horse to come from the back and get involved.
I quite like the nice guy at 25/1 but could only have a free bet on him with his injury record
If he was to turn up he’d have a knocking chance in a very weak looking race
Hopefully he doesn’t go chasing (surely a horse this fragile wont)
October 21, 2023 at 19:32 #1667649I is on Maries Rock 16-1 for now. No real standout in last year’s race so thought she had an ew chance coming into this season going over 3m.
October 21, 2023 at 19:46 #1667652Oddschecker is still showing “12/1” for Teahupoo with Betfred. A check on their site shows he is only 6/1.
Prices on Oddschecker do not always exist. Fancy that!
October 21, 2023 at 19:53 #1667653Iv still not forgiven Marie’s rock for the mares hurdle last year
Convinced nicky messed up big time by only running her once pre festival
She ran 5 or 6 times pre festival the season she won
After just 1 run she ran very fresh at Cheltenham which didn’t suit
Just think something would out stay her in this
She has plenty of speed
October 21, 2023 at 19:53 #1667654Teahupoo deserves his position as favourite but I can’t help thinking that if was going to win it, he should have won it this year, despite all. In the same colours, does anyone know if Absolute Notions is staying over hurdles? He’s bred for 3 miles so could be interesting, although I’d prefer a more hardened horse. He’s 50s at the moment.
The stayers is a real odds n sods race isn’t it? If Pied Piper goes back over hurdles and up in trip he would be my selection to do a Nichols Canyon. I don’t think he has been priced up, not according to Oddschecker anyway.
Looking down the list I can’t see anything that jumps out. I suppose we could get a young handicapper done good winner, like Paisley Park or Flooring Porter, but I can’t think who fits that bill.
Waiting to see if there are any failed novice chasers reverting quickly to hurdles, like Lisnagar Oscar. Affordale Fury is going over fences but might be worth considering if it doesn’t work out and he ends up in this category- he did very well to finish second in the Albert Bartlett as a 5 yo. He’s also 50s but that price should hold so no bet in case fences are his thing.
October 21, 2023 at 20:53 #1667663Not sure about absolute notions but iv heard Irish point is staying over hurdles for the same owners
Be surprised if absolute notions did as well
There is a robcour stable tour floating about on YouTube somewhere but iv not watched it
Edit
It’s on the we’re going chasing YouTube channel I’d imagine you’ll find your answer on there
October 21, 2023 at 22:10 #1667681Theleme is best priced 12/1 since Gaelic Warrior has been confirmed as going chasing. The Stayers Hurdle division is weak and I would be surprised if Theleme couldn’t give them all a beating if this is Plan A which, apparently, it is. I’m holding fire for now in the hope he drifts when something from these shores wins a penalty kick of a race.
The Nice Guy would be best of the home nations, if he were to turn up. I don’t like Teahupoo.
October 22, 2023 at 13:18 #1667768“Just think something would out stay her in this
She has plenty of speed”She has but she’s been trained for speed (Mares’ races). This season they have a different target so will see how she gets on.
October 22, 2023 at 14:44 #1667781Marries Rock for me, cant see anything above 12’s now, so a bet boost of 13’s will do.
I suspect she will run more this season prior to Cheltenham.October 22, 2023 at 15:20 #1667788Marie’s Rock. Am pretty sure it was a setback that limited her season
October 24, 2023 at 17:26 #1667956🗣️ Willie Mullins on SIR GERHARD, per
@SportingLife
:“I’m going to start him off chasing again this season but he’s a horse that’s hard to keep right. I have a feeling we might be changing tack during the season and if his jumping doesn’t hold up he’s one I have earmarked as a Stayers’ Hurdle horse.
“He has the ability and the stamina and is just hard to keep right over fences. If he stays right over fences he’s a Ryanair or Gold Cup horse, but I’ve a funny feeling he might end up back over hurdles.
“He has an official rating of 155 over fences and if his jumping holds up he’s probably well handicapped so a big handicap mid-season might seem the plan – he could be a Thyestes horse and if that doesn’t work out, the Stayers’ Hurdle.”
October 25, 2023 at 12:09 #1668011I wouldn’t argue the case that he looks good value at 33-1, but I have had my first Cheltenham bet on Good Time Johnny at 33-1
October 25, 2023 at 23:32 #1668051He won’t, but I reckon Willie could do worse than use this as Gaillard du Mesnil’s prep race for the Grand National.
As a 5 year old, he split peak Bob Olinger and Bravemansgame in the Ballymore, that effort being sandwiched between facile G1 wins in the Nathaniel Lacy at the DRF and Alanna Homes at Punchestown.
He doesn’t strike me as a big lanky beast of a chaser either, I reckon he’d get back “down” over hurdles more easily than some.
He’s nimble enough now over fences (it took a while) that if Elliott trained him he’d be added to the ever-increasing pile of Gordy XC horses. I wonder if Patrick is plotting to use him to tick that race off the bucket list. I bet he is, next season if not this.
November 2, 2023 at 21:50 #1668865Had an early bet on Dashel Drasher. Not getting any younger, but ahead of his seasonal debut, I couldn’t let the 66’s go
Dashel Drasher 66’s EW
November 7, 2023 at 07:49 #1669663Absolute Notions out today- much too short to back today, but I’ve taken the 50s for the Stayers. Obvious drawback is that Teahupoo for the same connections is fav, but if he fails to improve again in his 4th season over hurdles then Notions could perhaps stay over these obstacles to see what he can do. Obvious risks as Elliott said he would likely go chasing and schooled well over fences, but he’s not a huge horse and the smaller obstacles could be easier, and there may be a 3m handicap hurdle on decent ground in him off his mark on the way.
November 12, 2023 at 14:49 #1670245Sir Gerard just isn’t a natural jumper , I’ll be playing him for this now after today
