Lol are you serious?
You said you backed it each way, so I assumed you backed it on the ‘to be placed’ market as Betfair don’t have an each way market (apologies if they do but I can’t see it). So if you got 5.5 on that ‘to be placed’ market you have done very very well indeed, though I have a feeling you’re pulling my leg
.Good luck mate, and for what it’s worth, I am on Raincoat. Let’s hope I am not getting my coat after the race.

So is that good?
I thought when you said 3.50 that would have been better?
My pal did it for me as I am rather a dunderhead when it comes to betting like this. I’ve only backed to win on Betfair in the past like when Choisir won and I got 33/1 !!
(bless his cotton hooves). So I have £15 x £15 each way and £15 at 5.50 if he loses……. does that sound right?
I only had £51 in my account……
Well if mine doesn’t win I hope yours does!
September 12, 2007 at 13:07 #114604KT — The highest price that regal Flush has got matched on BF to be placed is 3.45 so you could not have got matched at 5.50. What price did you back the horse on BF to win at ?
September 12, 2007 at 13:08 #114605Yes 5.5 is very good. If this is what your friend has done, it means he has effectively backed the horse to be placed at odds of 9/2. The horse is currently trading at around 3.25 to be placed which is 9/4.
You better check with him to see if he has put any cash on the win market also becuase if he has put all the cash on the horse in the ‘to be placed’ market you won’t get any extra if the horse wins – you will just get all of the cash at 5.5 (9/2), whether he finishes 1st, 2nd or 3rd.
At the moment Betfair only have 3 markets on the St Leger and they are ‘Outright Winner’, ‘To be placed’ and ‘Aiden O’brien to train the winner’.
Good luck.

September 12, 2007 at 13:10 #114606Sorry SC – didn’t think of checking on Betfair to see what it had been matched at.
KT – you need check with your mate fast lol.

Having said all that, I think I am right in saying you don’t live in the UK or even Europe – so your friend might have accessed an international Betfair site where each way betting is a possibility – though I extremely doubt it. At the moment Betfair only have 3 markets on the St Leger and they are ‘Outright Winner’, ‘To be placed’ and ‘Aiden O’brien to train the winner’.

Yes we’re in Singapore. He said I had 15 to win and then 15 to run a place and then 15 to lose……… does that make sense? (He’s a Scot he should know what he’s doing with money
)Hmmmmmmmm maybe in future I should ask for your advice first!!

Thanks Mike!

Oh rats
– well I had as I said the 15 to win and 15 to place …………. Campbell said he had put 15 to lose ……….. I thought he said 5.50….. I will have to ring him in the morning,……… Oh no what has he doneeeeee
Well what I have done!!!!!!!!!!
I’d ring him now but it’s 9.20pm and he’s in the bar and I don’t think he’s making an awful lot of sense
………..
I got through to the drunk (
) ……….. it’s 2.50………
he’s trying to blame the earthquake tremor for getting it wrong …
…….. is that still OK? I think this horse has to win and then I don’t have to worry about this trading stuff
September 12, 2007 at 13:38 #114610lol KT,
Let’s just hope the horse wins for you mate and your balance shows a healthy profit

The Scot probably meant he has put £15 to win, £15 to place, and £15 for a bottle of Bell’s Whiskey

Betting Exchanges are really not that difficult to understand – Betfair have an excellent tutorial, but please don’t hesitate to ask if you want any advice or help in the future regarding this form of punting.
Take care mate,
Mike

Thanks Mike! Your help is much appreciated
Yessssssssssss that Bell’s whiskey sounds about right
September 12, 2007 at 14:20 #114614A few weeks ago, I declared my intentions of backing Mahler – indicating that I have fancied the horse for the St. Leger for some time.
I was met with slight derision an dfunny looks – especially after his Voltigeur run behind Lucarno

But I still have faith. I know, I know ! – I must be off my head to back the beast.

No way! you must keep the faith and think positively
September 12, 2007 at 14:47 #114620Take it you’re a Honolulu man DJ…..
I like these kind of trends in top-class races. You might be right that this is an exceptional year, but I’d rather bet on the previous pattern repeating until proven wrong. In the case of Honolulu I’d also be a bit worried by the greenness he showed at York- he tended to hang away from the whip, especially to his right- It’s a long stary straight at Town Moor….September 12, 2007 at 16:43 #114635Err where did I say it has no chance?
Carvillshill – I’ve been a Honolulu man since he won that listed race at Limerick. I know the stats are there, but I don;t think running in the Ebor is detrimental to his chance. He was the only O’Brien 3yo in the Ebor that was high enough to get a run, and with them also having 4 other contenders in the Voltigeur, there wasn’t much sense in them having a fifth.
September 13, 2007 at 02:38 #114684Ahhh!
Kingston, I really wanted you to get this bloody right so you could make a profit and i could look like a smart ass
No don’t worry, everything should be o.k but i’ll explain more thoroughly now.pps, I thought you was a big hitter turns out your like me!:) I’m glad your stakes were small as it could of been a almighty cock up if you’d put on the stakes in my example, especially if you were laying it to lose at this early stage.
Good luck.
Oh yes small stakes the order of the day
… actually 45 pounds is a huge amount for me!!! But it’s all in fun and anyway I couldn’t leave it sitting in that account forever
Here’s hoping to get my money back!!!
September 13, 2007 at 06:55 #114690Sorry, hope it works out.
Doesn’t matter if it doesn’t, I had forgotten the money was sitting there until I checked it out!
I’m just really keen to hear the race now – I hope the caller is spot on
because I won’t be able to ‘see’ it!!
September 13, 2007 at 13:46 #114751Sorry, hope it works out.
As long as you layed it at a smaller price than you backed it you’ll be quids in if it wins and you’ll lose less if it loses.
Thanks for all your help (and patience!) Marb it’s reallllllllllly appreciated.
