Not really my kind of race this, but usually find my way into a couple of bets….
https://www.oddschecker.com/horse-racing/ante-post-racing/flat/st-leger/winner
The horse I really like is Kaloor. Very impressed with him last year, and certainly something to work on from his first run. Holds entries at Chester, and I’ll be giving him a close look.
I’d also be interested in Japan and Norway, but as I’m strange waters just now, I’ll leave it to one on the shortlist for now.
No bet yet, but early fancy…..
Kaloor 40’s
May 8, 2019 at 17:24 #1432823NORWAY 40/1
That was price hills went 1st time up and won Zetland same race Kew Gardens won made 1st start at 3 in chester vase today was 2nd but come on a ton for that and for me derby next then the Queens vase another race in between before Doncaster he main fancy
CONSTANTIOPLE 33/1
Ran in handicap 1st time up this year at 1m2 but way he finish the race should of won but a run full of promise it was and extra distance when step up in trip and with more runs this season expect him to progress.
May 11, 2019 at 13:49 #1434952Happy now that Kaloor would have to improve tons for this, he was a disappointment at Chester. and Norway would be top of the shortlist now.
Still no bet, but close to the 25’s for Norway.
May 11, 2019 at 14:00 #1434956Couldn’t believe he was that bad VTC, not sure what to make of it. I suppose on his seasonal reappearance, he slowly got the hang of things, whereas at Chester you need to be on it from the off. Nevertheless, he was miles away.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!May 11, 2019 at 14:02 #1434958Yeah, very poor Jack. No excuses this time.
June 1, 2019 at 17:34 #1444120Japan 5-1
Broome 7-1Surely one of these wins?
June 1, 2019 at 17:39 #1444121Very happy with my ante post ticket on Japan at 25/1
The enormous drift for the derby suggested not much was expected and he ran a stormer
June 1, 2019 at 18:13 #1444127I am on Broome @ 14/1 put up after the Ballysax. Am very happy with that. Can see the two other favourites Japan and Anthony Van Dyk are better quality horses than Broome and would stay if running at Donny. However, have Coolmore run an English Derby winner in the race? Japan made enormous improvement today despite the weakness in the market and imo of all the field is likely to make most improvement. ie Between now and September likely to prove himself either an Irish Derby winner and/or too good to run in the St Leger. Admittedly they ran Capri after he’d won the Irish Derby, but that year “the lads” didn’t have another 3 year old stayer of the right quality. Normally they have other possibilities and this year plenty of other possibilities. Sir Dragonet is a possible, but he too will probably improve from Epsom with a good chance of victory in the Irish Derby. Also, struck the front today and – although possible it was just inexperience – seemed to be outstayed by AVD and J. Broome was fourth today and probably didn’t improve. Appearing to me as though he just couldn’t quicken, staying on at one pace. Personally – with Japan, Sir Dragonet and Mahdmoon having more scope for improvement; and AVD a better racehorse – I can’t see Broome winning the Irish Derby… Unless possibly if conditions place much more emphasis on stamina. Form shown by Broome at Epsom probably good enough to win an average St Leger and probably a little more to come once upped further in trip. imo He’s the most likely runner and that needs to be taken in to account in pricing the race up.
Value Is EverythingJune 1, 2019 at 19:13 #1444143Have Coolmore run an English Derby winner in the race?
Camelot, but that was because the triple crown was on.
June 1, 2019 at 20:19 #1444153Of course, Greenasgrass; silly me forgetting that one. You’re dead right, with the Triple Crown at stake it’s different to running other Derby winners in the St Leger.
Value Is EverythingJune 1, 2019 at 20:44 #1444154Re AVD trainer said Irish Derby, then said no problem going back to 10f. So unlikely to come here at this moment in time.
June 1, 2019 at 21:32 #1444158then said no problem going back to 10f.
Do you think that could be spin by any chance, Mike? With breeders listening.
Did he also say “listen, this horse shows so much speed”? LOL
Who do team Coolmore think they’re kidding?
Everyone could see today how AVD was pushed along/outpaced before staying on.Value Is EverythingJune 3, 2019 at 11:12 #1444413Ginge very interesting points on Japan- i immediately thought “St Leger winner” after that race, but what you’ve said makes sense. He’s too short for me to back at this stage anyway!

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!August 1, 2019 at 10:15 #1450168The Gordon Stakes today could be informative in respect of this race. Jalmoud is in there as a yardstick for Japan (who will swerve this) so if or whatever beats that one today would be a major player. I like Spanish Mission as a Leger horse so will be watching with interest. Broke the track record last time and looks progressive. Taken the 12s on offer will cash out if it don’t go to plan.
August 1, 2019 at 13:21 #1450190Thought i’d posted my fancy in here before!
Backed Constantinople at 20s after Ascot, was a monster performance off top weight and this extra 2F will suit perfectly. Hopefully see him win today then head onto the Leger.
Japan won’t be going anywhere near this race! More likely to go for the ICS before the Arc.
August 1, 2019 at 15:14 #1450201Spanish a bit unfortunate there delayed run and 1m 6 should be up his street.
See if they go.August 21, 2019 at 15:41 #1451568Happy with Spanish Mission 12s
