i dont know why people are using harbinger as the main form guide for the voltigeur. His form if anything was suspect. He won a maiden albeit nicely from COTG who would be running over a trip that was way too short. He has then won a mickey mouse gordon stakes at goodwood where the pace was muddling and everything else that has run since barring firebet has been disappointing. Is it now possible he just wasnt good enough.
If you look through Mastery and Father time and Jukebox Jury the form is solid. Cecil has said about father time letting himself down on the ground but surely if that is the case why on earth would they run saturday when the ground looks like it will be just as quick.
Personally think Mourayan if turns up will run a big race at the prices and COTG could be very unexposed.September 8, 2009 at 19:01 #247887ATR interview today say the word going round is that Kieren Fallon is set to be reunited with Ballydoyle and ride Age Of Aquarius with Murtagh choosing Changingoftheguard.
September 8, 2009 at 21:26 #247910So much for that fool statting live in air about that,

Anyway Murtagh is on board AOA and Colm O’Donoghue is on Changingofthegiuard.

For once Colm O’Donoghue will get a serious chance in a big race. He is a top class jockey and doesn’t get the opportunities he should. Should be Ballydoyle no.2 imo.
September 9, 2009 at 00:10 #247941This is the dawning of the
Age of Aquarius, Age of aquarius, Aquariiiiiuuus,Aquariiiuus
! So long as he runs,he wins! TAPK is renowned for being quiet and unassuming, but he is very confident about this and has been all season! If i was of a pessimistic nature i could say it would just be my luck that Changingoftheguard does me,after lumping on him at 10/1 for the Ebor. Now that would be Bad Luck, a sickener! That sums up Ante-Post betting, but what a thrill when you target a race months ahead and your horse actually runs! Then when it wins, particularly a Group 1 its a buzz,i could only imagine its like you gals that are Multi-Orgasmic!!
September 9, 2009 at 14:15 #12595On Saturday at Doncaster.
Last year I was very pleased to have picked Conduit.
Lets hope I get the same good selection this year who do you reckon will win it ?
September 9, 2009 at 20:28 #248033I’ve been sweet on Kite Wood since his victory in the Bahrain Trophy and I see no reason to abandon him at this stage.
His best performance to date was on fast ground in the Geoffrey Freer and he certainly has less questions to answer than many.
I’m not convinced either Father Of Time, winner of a poor renewal of the King Edward at Royal Ascot, or Changingoftheguard, yet to face top class opposition, are good enough.
Age Of Aquarius fits the profile of a potential Leger winner, but I’m not convinced, like Father Time, by his attitude and if there’s one horse who can take the prize across the Irish Sea it’s Mourayan.
He also has question marks regarding his attitude, but his overall form is solid and he is probably the most talented horse in the field.
He ran Sea The Stars to 1/2L as a 2YO and has run with credit against Fame And Glory on three occasions, including a third in the Irish Derby. His latest defeat to the talented Profound Beauty was no disgrace and I think he’s been crying out for this trip. The 12/1 still on offer is temping ew.
Hopefully, Doncaster will produce genuine good ground and there will be no excuses.
The O’Brien pacemakers should not prove a problem for Kite Wood. Dettori (is there a better Leger jockey?) will more than likely sit a few lengths off them and, given KW’s proven stamina, will make his move about six furlongs out and make the others come and catch him.
I’m convinced Kite Wood isn’t a plodder. Once the Ballydoyle pacesetters have cried enough, his horse has more than enough tactical speed to take control of the race.
Kite Wood has the ability to develop into a decent twelve furlong horse next year…but there’s a Classic to win before then.

Got to wish you luck Gord but just can’t fancy him myself. Mind you the way I’m going he could win by a furlong
September 10, 2009 at 13:30 #248099AOA is out. I’m pretty gutted to be honest.

There had better be a bloody good reason I was on at 10/1 Ante Post.
September 10, 2009 at 13:57 #248104And the bookies win money for nothing yet again. Pathetic show from Ballydoyle.

Absolute sickener for those who backed him but why does news always take so long to come out of AOB’s. Too many stand on stones, wake up with a runny nose etc……..I know we’re not entitled to know but it cost nothing to let the public know if something was wrong or a horse is unlikely to run in a high profile race like this.
Race is a joke now and no more a classic than flying in the air. They reall have to make a new 3rd leg of the classic as old the triple crown is dead.
No one is interested in winning 1m6f races with top horses these days
1m 1m2f and 1m4f Triple Crown is what we need.
Here’s an idea: Downgrade the St Leger and introduce a new 1m2f race for 3yo only and call it The Vincent O’Brien Classic after the great man.
Disgrace they don’t have the foresight to move with the times.

The horse galloped this morning and pulled up lame – not sure what exactly they have done wrong but sure crucify them when you only have half the facts.
September 10, 2009 at 14:25 #248114Now you know exactly why Sea The Stars will be staying in his box tomorrow.
The race, as I pointed out in Cormack’s thread, does not hold the same appeal or lofty position as it once did.
It’s a shame that Age of Aquarius has been pulled out, as I saw him as the only real threat to Kite Wood, who is now sure to go off a short priced favourite.
It’s difficult to envisage any other horse beating him.
Changingoftheguard was given a terrible ride by Johnny Murtagh in the Ebor ( imo ) and would have won had he not continually found himself boxed in.
I backed Kite Wood in his two previous races and was impressed both times. I don’t see the trip or the ground being a problem and hope Frankie can cruise to yet another St. Leger victory.
Gambling Only Pays When You're Winning
September 10, 2009 at 14:26 #248115God knows how many runners we’d have had in some of the English Group 1s this year had it not been for Ballydoyle.
September 10, 2009 at 15:04 #248119two years ago celestial halo ran in the leger and of course went on to be just pipped in the champion hurdle,so the main purpose of the race for me nowadays is to spot future national hunt types. also the prize fund of 500,000 seems obsene to me…thats more than the cheltenham gold cup
September 10, 2009 at 16:21 #248129For once Colm O’Donoghue will get a serious chance in a big race.
Hmm, maybe not then.
