September 11, 2009 at 23:36 #248345Von Jawlensky could do a bit of a Hindu Kush here, I’ve seen stranger things happen!
September 11, 2009 at 23:44 #248347Go on the Von
September 12, 2009 at 01:19 #248370Von Jawlensky backers won’t get any symphany from me

I’m one of the guilty party
September 12, 2009 at 01:47 #248376Mastery, he has the backclass, he wont get caught in a pace battle upfront with Monitor Closey, Von jawlensky and Kite Wood.
I would love too back Father Time but he ran like a drain at york on really fast ground and i think the ground will be the same at Doncaster.

Peter Chapple-Hyam has his horses in decent shape and conditions should suit
Monitor Closely
.
He’ll do at 9/2.

Me too, Equi.
Can’t see why people keep knocking his form; the next 3 horses in the Voltigeur are all gp2 winners, and Mastery, whom he thrashed, isn’t rated far behind the favourite according to Godolphin, and the very fact he runs here supports that view.
Strange breeding for a Leger winner, but the way he powered away at York gives a strong pointer to his chances of staying, and he’ll absolutely love the fast ground. It isn’t much of a race this year imo, and there’d be far worse 9/2 chances.September 12, 2009 at 09:42 #248405

Very easy to knock the form but difficult to knock the horse Reet. The race he won was just one of those days that for some reason the 2 horses most people expected to fight it out fill the last 2 places.
What you can’t take away from him, despite the 2nd being fairly moderate, is he’s a cracking looking horse, looks the pert, has won very easily in a very good time and has his ground today.
My worry with him is his trainer freely admits he was shocked and running him in this was an afterthought. He crealry thought the horse wasn’t good enough before the GV.
My old mate TENBOB do be a good chap and send that computer programme to Equi…he’s an account and will fix the glitch in the spreadsheet
……Mastery 6 pts higher rated than Monitor Closely but only 3lbs better off for 4 1/2 lengths? Something gotta be wrong there
September 12, 2009 at 13:11 #248422Statistically it appears that Father Time is the most appropriate winner of the race, so I will side with him.
September 12, 2009 at 13:27 #248429I think Changingoftheguard is just about the one here. The trip and ground should be alright. In heindsight the Ebor was just an exhibition of his potential Ledger credntials, which have heightened now that AOA is an absentee.
September 12, 2009 at 13:43 #248432I’ve backed Mastery win and place. The only blot on his resume is that he ran in the Queen’s Vase. Take that run away (Johnston runs every horse he has in the Queen’s Vase) and statistically he has a superb chance. We know he definitely gets the trip and he’s getting his ground too.
I’ve also backed Above Average for the win since that’s all he’ll have to be to win it.
September 12, 2009 at 18:21 #248504Well done Zarkava and everyone else who backed Mastery. That was a good race and a fine training performance by Suroor. Little to say really, a nail biter for the Godolphin backers. Mastery deserved it.
September 12, 2009 at 18:26 #248506Thanks, Graeme. Really I deserved that, I’ve had such miserable luck in the past 3 weeks. Not been down much but been very unlucky with stuff like Age of Aquarius being pulled out, Changingoftheguard letting down a 15/1 double, Benbaun getting beat in the Nunthorpe, etc.
Congrats to all other Mastery backers but I can’t wait to see Kite Wood next year over 12f. Get your King George punts on now and congrats to Bin Suroor for a superb training performance.

I’m still trying to work out why Monitor Closely had to come from behind, given that he made all and hammered Mastery last time out.
September 12, 2009 at 18:42 #248509Fell asleep. I’ll have to watch the race on Channel 4+1. Can’t recall ever having a bet on the St Leger.
Well done Zarkava.

I don’t think MC’s win was a true run race, and it was over a shorter distance. With a couple of front runners today, MC would’ve stood little chance running another race from the front over an extended distance. My opinion though.
