Well done backers of the winner I’ll hold my hands up he does seem a transformed character for the gelding op but also listening to the ITV pundits debating where the improvement has come from I’d put a lot of it on the jockey, hindsight is a wonderful thing but it probably shouldn’t have gone unnoticed that Oisin switched from The Tin Man for this, a horse he has a longstanding partnership with. The horse simply doesn’t need the exaggerated hold up tactics he’s been prone to getting down the years which will have cost him a few group successes by now, he travels beautifully close to the pace and we know he is a very strong stayer at the trip.
Worth noting I think thats Stoute’s first Group 1 this season in September no less, he’s had a bad season on and off the track poor man. Just one question… why did they wait until he was a 6 year old to geld him?
Agree regarding the ITV camera work really annoying I’ll have to watch the race back on Racing TV to get an idea of how the others fared.

He was being given far too much to do
And had they switched tactics earlier hed likely be a 2 time diamond jubilee winner
September 5, 2020 at 20:17 #1500059That’s because it was easier to settle him though. Now he’s Gelded they don’t have to ride him to switch him off anymore, he settles nicely behind the pace this year
September 6, 2020 at 07:22 #1500092Again begs the question why wait so long to geld him? Not trolling genuine question as he’s been with Stoute since the start of his 3 year old season. We’ve seen with Brando and to a lesser extent The Tin Man this season once you get to a certain age you simply cannot compete at the highest level anymore, they may only get one more good year out of Dream Of Dreams when this division has been there for the taking bar the odd standout performance here and there (Harry Angel Haydock Sprint Cup, Ten Sovereigns July Cup)
September 6, 2020 at 07:30 #1500093Well, yeah it’s a good question. I don’t know enough about it, but I’d assume gelding a horse is not a decision taken lightly at all. He’s out of Dream Ahead so you’d think there would be a lot of breeding potential there that they’ve now taken away.
In the context of finances I don’t understand why they would geld him, I just know in terms of improvement it can help in racing.
Maybe somebody on here can shed some light on that decision?
September 6, 2020 at 09:31 #1500098When you consider how much he has improved, isn’t there a case for saying more should be gelded? I can understand why they were reluctant with this horse given his ability and breeding. However, unless they are clearly showing potential to be a Group 1 performer, why would you leave them as an entire? There are only so many stallion places to go around. And I am sure I read somewhere that the longer you leave a gelding operation the more chance it has of causing problems.
