I’m back after my sabbatical and raring to find some winners in a top weekend of flat action! Tonight I think METHAALY will reverse form with Capt Dimitrios which will set us up for FURY tomorrow and TREASURE BEACH over in Dubai where I think he has the form to figure. Positive punting is the name of the game!

When daisies pied, and violets blue,
    And lady-smocks all silver-white,
    And cuckoo-buds of yellow hue
Do paint the meadows with delight,
The cuckoo then, on every tree,
Mocks married men, for thus sings he:
    ‘Cuckoo!
Cuckoo, cuckoo!’ O word of fear,
    Unpleasing to a married ear.
When shepherds pipe on oaten straws,
And merry larks are ploughmen’s clocks,
When turtles tread, and rooks, and daws,
And maidens bleach their summer smocks,
The cuckoo then, on every tree,
Mocks married men, for thus sings he:
    ‘Cuckoo!
Cuckoo, cuckoo!’ O word of fear,
    Unpleasing to a married ear.

    Spring by William Shakespeare

I may be a bit ‘cuckoo’ myself, but as Spring is on its way, which means the new flat season is nearly upon us, I will try to unearth one or two value bets which I think may do well, starting with the Lincoln on Saturday. The weather may not be spring like at present, but a few winners will help brighten things up!

Captain Bertie has the right profile of a Lincoln winner. Goes well fresh, the right age, and has decent course form. Has won on soft ground, and has form in big fields. He’ll do for me, I grabbed 16/1 a few weeks ago but is available at 9s now.

Time for my 1000 Guineas winner and that is ROSDHU QUEEN courtesy of Willie Haggas. An unblemished 2 year old record, culminating with a convincing win in the Cheveley Park, I think she’s overpriced at 20/1. Her sire Invincible Spirit has more sprinting blood but the mile should be in reach if she’s kept handy by Jonny, and judging by her wins to date, she’s best when up or asking the pace.

You must be the only one with "Spring" in your step at the moment Rich.

    Good luck with these.

Thanks Ginge, I’ve just returned from the isle of eternal spring as a matter of fact yet the snow still remains in my back garden! A surreal sight on April 1st…

Anyway despite the plethora of bank holiday racing, the Irish National is the big race that interests me. I am a fan of Magnanimity, especially with the hottest jockey around currently Bryan Cooper on board. I will side with him at 14s.
