Neither am I a ‘mod’, but I do have an interest in the welfare of this forum.
It’s not a question of individuals or personalities, simply that serious discussion invites serious discussion, much as lack of a proper structure invites the ‘bulletin board’ style we see on other forums.
I made clear in my original post that I wasn’t singling out any particular thread, I just felt that the current vogue for producing a new one on every little subject is probably counter-productive to the forum’s (and consequently our) long-term interests.
If you want evidence, check the ‘horse-racing forum’ index. I did a quick check and there are approximately 100 new threads in the past week, 37 of which generated less than half-a-dozen replies each, one assumes due to lack of interest.
Lose that interest, and we (collectively) may lose the forum.January 23, 2009 at 01:38 #205906Marb,
I’m quite unsure what you’ve been reading or else you’re even less intelligent than you’ve appeared to date. Please go back and read the topic and save yourself the embarassment of making deluded comments (Mod?).
Who’s arguing? Just you I think.

In addition, what Reet said.
January 23, 2009 at 01:41 #205907Salse, dead end argument here – you are not a mod therefore for you to tell people off for what they can and can’t post is wrong.
Marb,
Please show where I have told people where they can and can’t post.
January 23, 2009 at 01:46 #205910End of the day, for all you know his AIG win could have been more than satifactory, because the fact remains he’s shown nowhere near that level of form since, all things considered.
Still trying to prop-up that 172 rating you gave Sizing Europe in last year’s race, marble??

Pretty good answer, marble.
January 23, 2009 at 01:48 #205913Marb,
It was Reet who brought up the issue to I.
My original point (in addition to agreeing with Reet’s) was that if Moehat wanted news on racing, she should goto an appropriate site, and not a discussion board. It would be pretty silly if every news item required a thread.

January 23, 2009 at 02:34 #205927Agree with Salselon and Reet on this one, as I suggested on an ‘abandonment’ thread earlier in the year.
January 23, 2009 at 03:24 #205936WELCOME ………the loyalty and effort of our members make this the friendliest and most informative place for horse racing fans……….
Thanks to the thousands of forum members who have sent private messages in support. Much appreciated.
However, I do understand how some senior members feel and as such would appreciate knowing what exactly is expected of newer members? Is it a case of " little boys should be seen and not heard" or should we be obliged to pass threads through a vetting process before publication. As things stand it must now be difficult for some of us to know whether the elite members would prefer us to remain silent.
Let’s not fall out over this. Surely we can reach a compromise without the need for a ‘class’ war?
CheersJanuary 23, 2009 at 08:11 #205984Wasn’t spectacuar at all that’s why thebest price you could get for the CH was 6/4, immediatelly after the race.
Talk about after timers

CheersKen, it benefits the forum – and everyone who reads it – if we keep related discussions in the same thread. It’s tidier, takes less administration, is easier to follow and ultimately means we can avoid conversations like this….. where "newbies" think they are being victimised by some shadowy "elite membership".
Let’s say someone started a thread entitled "Sizing Europe is grey". Would you start a new one called "No – Sizing Europe is bay!"? Or would you just add your view to the existing thread, because it makes more sense to do so? Surely it would be the latter.
All that has been suggested here is that we (all of us) try to exercise that kind of discipline.
No-one is being gagged, and no-one has taken a pop at anyone else as far as I can make out. Adopting a sarcy tone doesn’t really reflect that reality, or help in any way, to be honest.
