he only comes in for food or to sleep when the weather is coldBlackbeard to conquer the World
April 9, 2020 at 14:27 #1487202Colin with your 2 year olds on hold for now I hope you are keeping yourself amused and I have read your posts on the other channel and wish you all the best. As for gamble he was put down in a similar fashion to Sherlock Holmes but rather than a fall his head simply exploded and flatcap somehow took on his spirit. His ethereal spirit was so indomitable he came back – a Baskerville basket case. He hated Flatcap stealing his old thunder and regularly torments the younger detective taking over is mind. The trilogy persists and the dog who bears both names gets in the way of both of them a and as you rightly say is a free thinker – more Catweazel than Bentham or Socrates it has to be said.
I see that gamblers/traders lost 85billion dollars with Plus 500 expecting the markets to jump back. I would expect a lot got burned with stop losses being activated much lower than their set prices – as few were buying.
As for the tranmisability and sustainability of the virus no-one really knows. It has been suggested you need to be in someone’s presence for a little time ( barring a cough or sneeze) Some countries adopt a metre most go for two. If it is a couple of feet all well and good. This ties in with doctors and nurses risk and that seat near the bus driver which is now a no go.

flatcapgamble has always been a joy to read and seems to be getting better with age.
Maybe he should start some of his own threads
April 10, 2020 at 09:59 #1487215gamble, I have sent you a pm.
April 10, 2020 at 11:53 #1487216Colin I have just replied but for some reason you have blocked in red against your name and will address this later – got an internal error message. That is the first pm I have received for years and since we moved.
As far as market reaction by traders – it goes like this : When your world starts slipping from under your feet you bet on your old world rather than the brand new world that is forming – the new world won.
Tank that would go to head – he is bad enough as the minor part in the unholy trinity.
I didn’t see yesterdays government briefing so I am not up to date. Clivexx I would happily meet you somewhere at a six and half foot distance to discuss contagion distances but as far as mask use and the WHO position. They may be write but in their message they have pictures of paper medical masks – not N95 filtered masks and we all know the paper allows virus through its pores. I think there is a flaw in their thinking because they argue a mask is useful for those who have virus symptoms. They seem to have forgotten a percentage are asymptomatic and should therefore be masked to protect others. Singapore scientists suggest the figure of asymotomatics could be roughly 10% from their data. The Chinese figures are due out soon but one scientist says his figures show a figure of 4.4% with those people less likely to infect than those showing symptoms. Presumably because they are not coughing. I have some more to say about Sunak and the health worker Harvey and the bad death percentages in the UK – but I did my back in yesterday lifting a small freezer full of food and I am now about to make tea.
fkatcapgamble – give me an inch and I will take a yard – give me a yard and I’ll take her hand off.
April 10, 2020 at 12:55 #1487222I have received your pm, gamble.

flatcapgamble…Rumour has it that Larry the cat is self isolating in Number 10 with a little lamb called
April 10, 2020 at 14:58 #1487226Tank have we met in another place at another time on another star.
I was disappointed with Sunak’s defence of the government re the lack of general testing in UK leading to much larger death rates He said it was one of many factors – and well if he values his job he can never admit the truth and politicians always hedge and emit smoke. Channel four news highlighted the case of Mr Harvey an NHS worker for twenty years whose wife had rung 911 four times and was critical of both paramedics and 911 for not hospitalising her husband who collapsed and died at home. She was critical of the NHS and ITV ran instead with the good doctor’s death and the midwife but left him out. I think it was missing from the early BBC news which tends to suggest they bothbmay be selective for a reason. On LBC radio a man rang in and compared countries death rates compared with tested rates and said US was good Germany was excellent but the NHS ( I think around 12% ) were just below Italy’s and that the NHS were doing a terrible job. The presenter cut him off off saying she was not going to let people come on to criticise the NHS when they were out there risking their lives. I think he was the most interesting caller.
As far as asymptomatic cases The Diamond Princess cruise ship reported a figure of 16.9% similar to influenza 19% – more over 60’s on board so not representative of the general population. The WHO say less than 3%. We will see she the evidence comes out. If the percentage is anywhere over 10% it is of great concern.
That wraps up my thoughts.

April 11, 2020 at 14:47 #1487256We’re getting past the median 23 day period where those who are going to die as a result of direct infection at Cheltenham would have died.
Par for 200k UK people not at Cheltenham would be around a dozen deaths in any four day window. Par regardless of timeframe would be around 30 deaths. Are we under or over par?
I’ve been searching and have only found a couple of anecdotes. Maybe open-air events are no worse than the average person’s daily routine for spreading this thing. That’s kind of what I’d expect.
April 12, 2020 at 11:38 #1487266Glenn I wish you and your idle machines and family a restful Easter also Tank and Colin Phillips who I spoke to privately and I would extend that to everyone including the irrepressible Hughes.
Taken me a bit if time to post because I was sitting and either researching the markets or betting in them for a continuous seventeen hours yesterday and set the alarm at 6 for the rest of Albany which was a thoroughly enjoyable meeting. The Australians and New Zealanders really do look after their horses and keep them in fine fettle. Some of the dirt horses in America do not seem to walk so well which is a great pity.
Getting back to Cheltenham the Irish minister of foreign affairs said that it would not have taken place if it had been in Ireland. I counted about nine or ten people who reported symptoms including one Irishman of the 20k that journeyed over.
The most infectious time for passing the virus on is two days before you show symptoms which is concerning. I cannot argue with your figures Glenn as you are a more able statatisian than me, but would only say that some deaths come in the fourth week. It is the contagion rather than deaths which is of high concern. The Chinese are the first to admit they still do not know all the properties of this virus and like Iran cannot preclude a second wave. As for Sweden I wish the people, well but figures are beginning to look troubling.
A lot of people including the media are holding back criticism of this Government as a weakened Government could have confidence effects on social distancing. Later there will be a reckoning as people pick the bones.
At Cheltenham crowds do gather and a lot are indoors. The Atletico Madrid game probably brought infection from a high highest risk area of Spain, which was daft. The Isle of Wightvhave stopped passenger ferries – so David Icke is padlocked but we let all and sundry in I believe and hope they quarantine – presume flights are still going all the the plane a minute I usually seeis not evident. Yes they must be grounded.
Well on the subject of Corona but more on a humorous note I remember well delivering Corona to Brian Moore, Cliff Michelmore, Tommy Steele and Rolf Harris at their homes. I was most shocked when Brian Moore the sports presenter opened the door – it was if I was in some parallel universe. He had a pipe in his mouth and I asked him what he wanted with a strange stare, ( his name had slipped) he said in his ratger memorable voice – I’ll have my usual ; a bottle of Lemonade, Cherryade, and a limeade. Pleasant memories. Rolf Harris was not in and I remember I walked round the back of his house and had a look in. A marvellous mahogany table with silver service settings and candelabra – all very ostentatious and a far cry from his present circumstances.
fkatcapgamble – I am fighting this war from my window. **** there’s a fly – I’m off !!

I think Rolf Harris is still living the good life, gamble, as he was released from prison three years ago. Good luck to him, he’s served his time and wasn’t exactly a high level abuser like Savile.
Very good artist he is and you can pick up his work a bit cheaper now. He also did some bits and bobs of work on two Kate Bush albums The Dreaming and Aerial. Lucky man
