I remember Fabre saying last year after the Breeders Cup that he did not agree that Hurricane Run was necessarily the superior horse. He pointed out that he had not trained Shirocco for very long and he felt that he had considerable scope for improvement.

You have to rate Shirocco ahead of HR on current form and to my eyes there seems as much improvement in him as anyone else.

Shirocco is a different horse now that Farbre has got to know him if you remember last year he had his first run for him on the 11thSept after having a year of and in his next run he was ridden by S Pasquier in the Arc when the stable were only just getting to know him(shirocco) albeit he ran a cracker on ground that was faster than he likes when 4th to H-Run.Since that day he has never looked back and under Fabre´s regime he has blossomed. We should remember H-Run beat nothing leading up to the French Derby and in that Derby he and Sharmadal beat nothing except a well btn Scorpion (who had an off day?) so we are not talking about a world beater in H-Run.They have both btn Electrocutionist,Pride beat H-Run and Shirocco beat Pride so at the end of the day there is not a lot in it wether it is a fast race or a slow one they will be close but i think Shirocco has the better credentials as he did win a Breeders cup even though no-one gives him the credit he deserves.

I think his trial was perfect, not busting a gut to clock a fast time but doing just enough to win when most likely not 100% fit. The record of 3 year olds and Niel winners speaks for itself.

Only wish I’d known he’d be 20/1 on the PMU thanks to the crazy Japanese!
