Cue Card is out.
I hate these late call offs, particularly when the trainer then states he should be fine for Aintree.
I’ve been against the horse all season, something doesn’t seem quite right with him and his trainer’s explanation “He was making a noise and we had him looked at” has to go down as one of the least informative comments ever made regarding a horse’s state of health.
I think he had a fair bit to prove but it’s a shame he doesn’t get the chance to prove me wrong.
I thought this race was tailor made for Champagne Fever but he’s away chasing shadows in The Champion Chase, which looks a silly option for a horse who was running in the King George only 75 days ago. The firm quoting him at 4/1 for the shorter race are surely living on planet Zanussi.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
March 4, 2015 at 10:34 #786848Major **** up by Ladbrokes here. Hidden Cyclone has just been confirmed on-air as going for this race, cut into as short as 7/1 as a result but Laddies (who are NRNB admittedly) are still offering 16/1.
Given we now know he’ll line up barring injury that is a monster price.

I don’t fancy the horse at all but the price does stand out.
I can’t figure Ladbrokes going 5/1 Gitane Du Berlais for the JLT, when others are going 12/1, which is mysterious as well, considering Willie Mullins has said the horse isn’t going to Cheltenham full stop.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
March 4, 2015 at 11:04 #786984Not the biggest fan myself mate but I’ll be laying half back at less than 8/1 on Thursday, I’m pretty confident of that, especially when Champagne Fever is officially removed from the book.
He’ll clearly be a danger in the race based on LTO and his run in the race last year so I’ll be happy to have him running for me at 8/1 for free.
March 4, 2015 at 12:44 #787749Will Gitane du Berlais go to Cheltenham after running on Sunday? It seems highly unlikely.

She goes for the Ryanair Gold Cup (formerly the Powers Gold Cup) at Fairyhouse.
March 4, 2015 at 15:48 #789347Thanks THM. I really wish I’d backed her on Sunday. One of my strategies was to back mares with allowances next week, especially after backing Ma Filleule [sp] last year.

If it was obvious to me, and I’m sure many others, that something happened to that horse at Kempton in 2013 that was so abnormal, it was highly likely he’d never recover from it, it should have been so to the trainer.
He stopped that day in a way I haven’t seen in over 40 years watching top class racing. Whatever noise he’s making now, might well have its root in that incident. It was nothing to do with staying, imo, nor were his subsequent poor performances. What affected the horse was pressure, when he needed more oxygen he couldn’t get it, or he was bursting vessels without blood showing, or he might well have a skeletal problem. But his career effectively ended that Boxing Day, and they ought to retire him.

I can’t understand why she is still so prominent in the JLT betting when Willie Mullins said she won’t be running at Cheltenham. Ladbrokes have her at 5/1, which is nonsense.

Ladbrokes go 8/1 now.
