The Ryanair is rapidly becoming my favourite race at the festival. Dug myself a hole on Champagne and Cossack. Dynaste was superb in the King George and looked to be staying on so am hoping they go for glory in the Gold Cup, if not i’ll saver on him. He ran his best race in this last year and wouldnt back against a repeat. Would like to see him go the Imperial Commander route and go for Gold this year.
The question has to be whether connections made a balls-up in trying Dynaste over further, seemingly on a fools errand towards a Gold Cup run that was never going to suit his style.
The horse returned sore after running behind Many Clouds and he’s now been ruled out for the season.
It’s hardly rocket science in finding the trip where a horse shows his best form and then letting him get on with doing what he does best. It’s obviously tempting to think that Gold Cup glory may be possible but there comes a point where you accept that you haven’t got the right type of horse to do it with. Running over trips that don’t suit can’t have a positive impact on a horse’s career and here it has back-fired spectacularly.
Poor placement in my opinion.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
February 4, 2015 at 14:30 #504086With Dynaste out of the way, the form horse has to be Don Cossack, i’m on all rates from 8s down and gone in again NRNB with Boylers at 4s.
Question marks against the rest, we know this is his target and he’s firing all guns blazing this season and about to fulfil the undoubted potential he’s shown since his bumper days.February 4, 2015 at 14:36 #504087I have to say, I would expect DC to be cut more for Dynaste withdrawal.
Still get 4/1 NRNB with Boyles
February 4, 2015 at 14:57 #504089Don Cossack looks solid at 4/1 and he’ll be shorter come the day. Should be a decent bet I would think.

February 4, 2015 at 20:37 #504131With Dynaste out I think Champagne Fever is a great bet at 8/1, NRNB with Boyles. He’d be favourite for me if he runs.
February 4, 2015 at 20:42 #504132DC far too short without course form which year in year out speaks volumes, the horse that not only jumps off the page but shouts and screams ‘back me now’ is Jonjos Johns Spirit – he loves the decent ground and has amazingly good course form.
Add to this he goes well fresh and you have an awesome EW proposition at 12s ( which I’m positive will not last!)

Taquin Du Seuil all day, every day. JJ was toying with the public running him at 3m, think he hopes the drop in distance will eek out some improvement from the horse. The horse is already a complete monster and has come on an absolute ton from last year but we haven’t had a chance to see it as he’s been running at trips too far.
Come Ryanair day we will see the Taquin we saw at last years festival, only a lot better and more powerful. It takes a horse who can keep on going but also isn’t short of speed to win this race and that’s exactly what Taquin possesses.

You got it, 16/1 is a great price
February 13, 2015 at 22:51 #750808The market seems to have concluded Champagne Fever is going for the Champion Chase. Not a big surprise, but I think CF has a better chance of beating the better of Don Cossack and Cue Card than the best of Sprinter Sacre, Dodging Bullets, Sire de Grugy. Perhaps, if he does well at Gowran Park over 2.5 miles, he will go for the Ryanair after all.
February 16, 2015 at 23:30 #751198A bit disappointing that Menorah looks like a non-runner. Apparently he is simply a reserve for Wishfull Thinking. I wish we had been told earlier but 25-1 always looked a bit too good to be true.
February 25, 2015 at 17:25 #752269Jonjo has said Taquin Du Seuil may run in the handicap race that was called The Byrne Group Plate last year, instead of the Ryanair.
There is still some 12/1 about for him in the Handicap race but he’s as short as 8/1 Fav in places.
Apparently Jonjo considers he might be well handicapped for the race when the weights come out tomorrow, as his official mark was dropped 5 lbs when he ran a non-staying 4th to the much vaunted Coneygree.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
February 26, 2015 at 09:42 #752311Cue Card for me.
6/1 looks a safe e/w bet and though I think he isn’t quite as good as when winning this 2 years ago, I don’t think he’ll have to be.
It’s clear as day this is his ideal trip and I’m surprised they have persisted for as long as they have done with wrong trips.
I wouldn’t rule out Balder Succes in spite of his Cheltenham record but I think he is a boom or bust horse where as I just can’t see Cue Card outside the first 3.
February 26, 2015 at 10:18 #752314Interesting perspective, I would say Cue Card is an exceptionally risky ew bet. He has been very miss miss this year. If he is at his best he’ll win if he isn’t he won’t place I am sure. Minimal profit for the ew stake. I would just cover two on the win.
February 26, 2015 at 10:44 #752315I guess I’m putting a lot of faith in the trainer! After tipping him up on here to win the Champion Bumper, I soon lost faith in him and was put firmly in my place when he won the Ryanair so I’m not just sentimental. I was pleased I was wrong but guess that has left me giving Tizzard more rope than I maybe should.
The reason I say I don’t think he would have to run to his best is because I don’t think you will need to run to 174 to win this. I don’t see anything in the field that I think could run near 170 for this race. So for me, Cue Cards mark is reflective of being beaten over a wrong trip albeit running somewhat below his best. I suppose it is the last chance saloon for him, but I can’t help but think he will be good enough.
March 1, 2015 at 11:34 #775310Ma Filleule for me in this race, With the weight allowance I think this horse has an outstanding chance
March 1, 2015 at 21:17 #778449Taquin de Seuil could still run in this!! Whatever race he goes for he has to go close!! Jonjo 1-2 maybe
March 3, 2015 at 09:25 #780912Cue Card is out.
