Expecting Dynaste to run in the Gold Cup I’m thinking of getting involved with Champagne Fever at 10/1 with Paddy Power NRNB. I hope Uxizandre runs in this rather than the Champion Chase as 20/1 looks tasty.
January 6, 2015 at 13:07 #500544Are PP NRNB? Seems odd being best price NRNB.

Not yet but they pushed him out to 10s a few days ago and I’m anticipating them going NRNB by February hopefully.
January 7, 2015 at 10:17 #500627They are NRNB ( as are 365) on the 4 championship races

The difference will be when they go NRNB, 10/1 becomes 7 or 8/1.
Quite logical especially with horses that have multiple targets.FWIW, CF is worth a bet NRNB for the Champion chase, if the big 2 fail to show up he’ll be a knocking bet, if they do show, you’d be pretty sure to get your money back as Mullins would revert to plan A.
January 7, 2015 at 11:20 #500630That is a great shout. I don’t have much of an angle on the CC. I am covering him.

I took 10/1 NRNB with Boylers early this morning.

He’s not looked the horse he was this season.
Wouldn’t be the greatest shock to see him put up a good run here, but it’s a leap of faith that he’ll come back to his best.Dynaste ran a blinder in the King George so you’d have to have him as the one to beat, although I do have a few quid on Eduard at 25s in the hope that he continues on the upward curve.
January 8, 2015 at 20:53 #500797He bounced back from a terrible run in the KG a couple of years ago Shack.
This is an entirely different horse under his optimum conditions of 2.5 miles on good or gd/sft ground.
He’ll be bang there in March, win or lose – I have no doubt at all about that.

January 8, 2015 at 22:24 #500813The Ryanair is rapidly becoming my favourite race at the festival. Dug myself a hole on Champagne and Cossack. Dynaste was superb in the King George and looked to be staying on so am hoping they go for glory in the Gold Cup, if not i’ll saver on him. He ran his best race in this last year and wouldnt back against a repeat. Would like to see him go the Imperial Commander route and go for Gold this year.

I’d love to think you’re right, but Cue Card left his career at Kempton in December 2013. There’s something wrong with him and the Tizzards can’t seem to face the truth. They’ve talked him up with gusto on all three of his runs this season – on his debut he went from 10/3 to 13/8. CT reported him short of fitness at Exeter (contradicting the gamble) but spot-on/110% for Haydock, where he started fav. The excuse there, once again was fitness and maybe he needed to be 200% or some other daft expression. He was gambled again in the King George after yet more expressions of confidence.
Sadly, the horse has gone, in my view. It’s not the trip finding him out, it’s when he comes under pressure. I suspect he’s bleeding or has some other breathing issue that’s gone undetected.
He’s one of my all time favourites, and I hope I’m left with plenty egg on my face at Cheltenham, but I doubt it. He’s a sad sight these days.

I think you are correct Joe. Cue Card seems to be OK in a race until it reaches a stage where he needs to go at something like full pelt. He then seems to lose touch a bit and then just stays on at the one pace. On some occasions, after he gets that bit behind the leaders, you sort of expect that he may begin to tail off but manages to hold his place with the other beaten horses. If it were solely a stamina issue, you would expect that when he started to fall behind the leading pack he would continue to tire and drop away further.
I couldn’t consider backing Cue Card until there was clear evidence that he was over whatever was ailing him, the lack of fitness excuse just doesn’t wash with me.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
January 21, 2015 at 23:12 #502382I think we could see a big 5 for this race: Dynaste, Don Cossack, Champagne Fever, Al Ferof and Cue Card. It seems to be the optimum distance for all of them and all would have a fair chance of winning. I don’t see why any of them would go shorter or longer. In the Champion Chase they would be up against SS, DB and SG, all of which look to have the beating of these 5 over 2 miles. In the Gold Cup they wouid have to get past Silviniaco Conti and Road to Riches plus a few others who have more staying power.
January 22, 2015 at 09:31 #502403Dynastes performance on sat will decide his route. He stayed on in King George well enough and was getting closer at the death. His Ryanair win last year was nice and proved the course itself holds now fears. If he shows the stamina and wins he’ll defo go for gold.
I am going to cover him NRNB for the GC ew. He won’t run unless he impresses/wins on sat.
January 31, 2015 at 12:17 #503549Re cue card I’d like to see them try a hood as well as giving the ride to young Brendan. JT confirmed last week they are to revert to front running on CC I’m hoping he blows them away on the final circuit

The handicapper has taken the scissors to his rating as well which is understandable given 3 below par performances this season
Bring it on!
February 4, 2015 at 12:46 #504066Nadgers brutal morning for me. Had CW in RSA and smashed into 11-2 Dynaste for this after he lost to MC.
Surely with only DC and CC in the way this has to be the target for Champagne Fever and Balder Success??
I’d rather take those two on over DB, SS and SDG.
