Come March it will be 2 years since Dynaste has won, but it will also be 2 years since he encountered the combination of this trip and good ground, so he’d be no forlorn hope. Arguably he’s been running over trips and on ground that stretch his stamina too far.

Completely gone against my own advice and cashed out my smad place ryan air bet and put on sir des champs ew nrnb bog at 16s and topped up valseur lido at 12s. Just spent an hour making a shortlist of which I had.
    Alferof
    Gilgamboa
    Vibrato valtat
    Village vic
    Champagne west
    Felix yonger
    Ma filleulle
    Sir des champs
    Smashing.
I quite like village vic but he had a Stone in weight advantage over champagne west when he beat him and tenor nivernais. Off levels I think he’s a place chance but can deffinately see something being too good for him.
Smashing also tempted me at 33/1 but a beating of tennis cap is nothing to get carried away with. There’s deffinately huge value in the market atm.

Can’t believe they think smad place can win gold cup. Would be better off taking the chance in this because vautour will be in gold cup. Ryanair wide open now

They might take the view that, like yesterday, things can go wrong for the fav in races. SP could go up a couple of pounds for yesterday, which would put him on 170, right on the heels of the main contenders ratings-wise.

I too think Vautour will win the Gold Cup, but, value-wise, there’s nothing else in the race I’d rather have as backup than Smad Place.

Starting to dip my toe into the murky waters of the Ryanair. So far Village Vic 110, Sir Des Champs 95, Ma Filleule at 50 and I’ve put in a bet on another horse, currently unmatched.

I do not fancy Al Ferof at all. I love the horse but not since his novice chasing days has he won a race which wasn’t his seasonal debut. Unbeaten in seasonal debuts, beaten in all other races. Hopefully he’ll run and I’ll look to either win or place lay.

Agree with you on Village Vic Zark but here is another big price one to consider GODS OWN 75 on Betfair. Huge price considering its run behind Un De Sceaux last year!!

VROUM VROUM MAG could still tackle the Ryanair Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, as Willie Mullins confirmed the race was a “possibility” for the exciting mare.

With Vautour and Smad Place, the market leaders for the Ryanair, gunning for Timico Cheltenham Gold Cup glory, a hole has emerged at the head of the ante-post list and it is not out of the question Vroum Vroum Mag could fill it.

Discussing some of his runners for Cheltenham, Mullins said on Monday: “Vautour is a Gold Cup runner I’m sure, though I see he is favourite for both the Gold Cup and the Ryanair.

“Vroum Vroum Mag is a possibility for the Ryanair. Mozoltov ran well on Sunday and might run in it too.

“Champagne Fever won’t make the Ryanair and Felix Yonger might run in the Champion Chase. Valseur Lido might go to the Gold Cup.”

I am glad connections are starting to see sense, she jumps fences better than hurdles. They couldn’t win the 2014 with Annie Power rated 165 where as VVM is only 149 over hurdles. Thistle Crack is a monster

I hope VVM does run in the Ryanair I backed her in a Big Ante post Lucky 15 in October with Billy Hills. If she runs, the way the race is cutting up, i can see her going off favorite around 5/2.

Is Vautour now officially confirmed for the Gold Cup and out of the Ryanair? Even if he is, I don’t get it? Djakadam is GC favourite after an impressive reappearance, then after one fall, in a race he may well have won equally impressively, he is now 11/2 or 6/1 and Vautour is now favourite?!
Why though, what has changed? Precisely nothing. Djakadam has already been a gallant runner up in a GC won by a horse, that if he was in it this year would probably win it again?! Plus Vautour, who I did back on the day, got caught on the line over a flat 3 miles on a polar opposite track, as his tank clearly emptied. If you think he will stay a further 2 1/2 furlongs up the hill at Cheltenham, and the same applies to Cue Card, then good luck with that!
My view is that Vautour should mop up in the Ryanair, which would still leave Willie Mullins with his best chance to date of bagging his Holy Grail, via Don Poli and Djakadam.
For me, the best value at current prices in the race is Don Poli at 13/2 (most likely GC type and 2/2 at the Festival) and Road to Riches, as 12/1 seems too big based on last years performance. If trained by Mullins he would be half the price at least.

Why would Rich Ricci rely only on Djakadam when he has Vautour in his armoury? He wants to win the Gold Cup…I don’t get the hysteria with Djakadam…he’s 0/3 at Cheltenham and 0/4 over here…he was a gallant runner up last year but ultimately wasn’t good enough…

Vautour on the other hand could quite easily prove he is the x-factor horse many think he is….IMO he will be a completely different animal at Cheltenham and win handsomely!

In his last 3 visits to Cheltenham, Djakadam has fallen twice.

I’m not a follower of general stats, but since 2006 103 horses have gone into the Festival off the back of a fall. 1 has won.

Djakadam’s best form is with cut: 4 of his 6 wins have been on heavy ground; his GC run was on soft.

Trainer says Vautour goes for the Gold Cup “as far as I’m concerned”. Ruby made too much use of him at Kempton, which he admits. The horse will stay the trip no problem, unless the ground is deep, imo. And if you think he is short now, he’ll be a 9/4 chance on the day, I think, maybe shorter.

Nobody is going to suggest a fall is an ideal preparation for any race but you could easily argue that Djakadam was travelling better than anything on the two occasions he has fallen.

More importantly I don’t see any better form on offer than his second to Coneygree. In my opinion had he been fit to run Coneygree would have gone very close to retaining his crown. As for Walsh deciding to ride Vautour it might actually enhance Djakadam’s chances to get a more active jockey on board.

And a much better price, if you fancy him.

Another very strong stat is that most GC winners, except previous winners, are running in the GC for the first time. Previous placed horses very rarely, if ever come back and win one.
On that basis the shortlist should be Vautour, Don Cossack, Cue Card and Don Poli. IMO three out of the four have proven Cheltenham form, but there is only one out and out stayer and that is Don Poli. Whether he is quick enough to keep up remains to be seen? Lord Windermere did it and Don Poli is far superior to him!
All in all, fascinating as always, but especially so this year! Absolutely gutted that Coneygree isn’t there again, as whatever wins the race, there will still be a lingering “what if” for me?

I think Don Poli is more like Bobs Worth than Lord Windermere

How many festival winners have Gigginstown had ?
