Pathetic indeed, absolutely useless especially given all the build-up there was on RUK.

Add Racing UK to the BHA, Racing Post, HRI, TRF and all the other dismally-run organisations in and around this sport.

I’m looking to reactivate my subscription to Racing TV; its much against my better judgement but its not long now until the jumps season is back, thank god. Instead of paying the outrageous price of £25 a month, does anyone know of any special offers that will allow me to subscribe to the channel for less than this?

As I no longer bet on the horses (for the reasons of being too sensible and that I can’t afford it) I have no interest in opening an account with any bookmaking firm, however I’d be grateful if anyone else has any suggestions. Thank you

I cancelled about the same time as you, Phil, and a few days ago received a letter containing a time limited offer. I threw it away but if I recall correctly it offered 10 months @ £10pm on a year’s contract with the other 2 months at £24.98. A yearly saving of 50%! So, maybe wait and see what turns up.

I’ve decided to possibly watch some Saturdays on ITV and buy short-term passes for Cheltenham and Aintree. I’ve also cancelled my sub to the RP website, partly because it malfunctions too often.

Thanks a lot GM, I was trying to work out if I could manage to put up with ITV during the autumn/winter months, but quite often a lot of the best racing takes place on Sunday including from Ireland.

I’ll keep an eye on my letter box to see if I receive the same offer as you. However, as life continues to get harder, i.e. my bills keep going up but my take home pay doesn’t, I’ll have to do the same as you and just take out day passes for Cheltenham and Aintree.

I doubt the powers at be behind RTV give a damn how many people have cancelled their subscriptions this year, but I’d love to know the figures. It’s an expensive luxury and wonder how many people there are like me who are questioning their need to keep paying for the channel.

I was watching Sky Sports Racing on a streaming channel showing the Dubai Racing channel as the picture was better than Virgin Media and they were broadcasting the off screen comments of Alex Hammond and guests so while Matt Chapman was broadcasting on the main broadcast we could hear Alex say to her guests “in a minute we will ask you for a selection and you don’t need to say anything else as there will be no time”.

I wonder if Alex and guests know there off screen comments were being broadcast on the Dubai channel live.

I’m sort of, but not really tempted by a Racing TV subscription. Their website hides all the information you need. A bit of trawling has me finding info that you need to call their customer service line to cancel your subscription, which is already scammy enough. Then there’s no easily found page where you can see how much it costs. Being in Ireland I think I need the international package, but again I’m not sure. Maybe it’s all hidden behind the login interface where you need to register to find out prices, but again that’s hiding the kind of information that should be regularly available.

If they’re not confident in their price, their product, or in keeping people subscribed that they have to resort to obfuscation of all the important details then I’m not sure they’re a business I want with my details, let alone my money. And it’s such a shame, because I happily bet on races I might not have a clear picture on just to get the bookie’s stream. If they were up front about everything it’d be a lot easier for me to get, maybe, just that one month subscription and see how I like it. Instead it’s all buried and my relationship with them doesn’t even get started.

After the shocker they had yesterday when then showed the 2.55 at Navan and ended up going split screen for a group one at Newmarket, people would be better off just watching the replays on various sites,as the coverage has nose dived so much since the Irish racing arrived.
I’d be interested to know how many subscribers they have left now.

Yeah that was pretty grim yesterday, whoever thought it was a good idea to do that rather than show the navan race immediately after the middle park, group 1’s should ALWAYS take priority over lesser races

But like i have said many a time, you can select a meeting on the internet if you subscribe that way so you dont get a split screen

When theres meetings like that yesterday, introduce the red button!!!!! So yoh can select the meeting to mirror the internet choices you have

    Its silly.

Happy enough with Racing TV at the moment, but only because I snaffled one of those 12 month for 12.50 euro a month deals that pops up every now and again.

I like the fact they have an Apple TV app now, no need to connect laptops to the TV anymore and its got Racing TV extra on there as well.

Replays on the site have been upgraded to HD, another improvement.

Not seeing as much as Hislop, Mellish, Freemantle, Willoughby as previously, which to me is a negative, of course that may have nothing to do with Racing TV either.

Someone mentioned on Twitter the other day, whatever about Brexit, a hard border needs to be installed between the UK and Irish racing on the main channel. Totally agree. I wont be paying 31 euro a month to watch the Middle Park on split screen on a main channel, no way.

Virgin Media customers in Ireland still only getting SD pictures at 26 euro a month :negative: , Sky Sports Racing on Virgin Media still SD only too.

So at the moment 12.50 a month is okay, 31 euro a month is not okay.

I’ve rejoined Racing TV recently mostly because of wanting to watch the upcoming jumps season and to avoid the ever-annoying Matt Chapman on ITV, however I’m already beginning to rue my decision. On top of the monthly cost of £25 I had to pay an additional £10 setting-up fee (WTF??), seeing people like Cav are paying much less than me and in expectation of the growing number of split screen moments. I didn’t see the Middle Park on Saturday but to show that race split screen because of a meaningless race at Navan is absolute madness, has anyone from the channel attempted to explain its crazy decision?

Sadly we’ve moved away from the days of terrestrial television when the BBC and ITV both showed horse (and greyhound) racing and ALL major sporting events (test match cricket, show jumping and motor racing etc) were available free to air. I accept that the presentation of sport has improved markedly since those days, but I’m not sure how much longer I can accept the financial cost of having to pay for these changes.

I see the clown who sets the race times has struck again this Saturday…Punchestown going off 5 mins before the Dewhurst and the 2 SSR jump meetings in a 10min spell.

    greetings,
I’m new to the forum having registered at the w/e and this will be my first posting.
First perhaps I should declare myself a RacingTV subscriber having previously viewed the service via VM.
While RTV isn’t perfect,in my view there’s too many courses which seems to be the root of the problem.
However I’m not talking RTV but racing in general,in my opinion there needs to be a cull!
While my exposure to SSR has been limited what I’ve seen is unappetizing, inferior to RTV in my opinion.
One thing that’s failed to be mentioned as yet althought not sperific to horse racing but to sport in general and how Sky is seeking to dominate the arena.SSR at present I believe is at no extra cost to those capable of receiving the service which is most likely to build an audience before’throwing’ masses of money at course rights when availabe ….just look at the money they have paid to televise the Premier League. With massive financial resoources behind the company they will be,I believe, quite ready to overpay and with low initial subs be prepared to run SSR at a loss in order to establish themselves and elimate any opponents without the same financial firepower.
Once achieved subcribers can be hit by price rises in two ways via paying more for the platform or for the service/package ……so I say be careful what you wish for!

@blackcountry Kid Sky can throw as much money as they want the Jockey Club will never ever give the rights to their courses to Sky so Sky can never get their hands on the big courses other than Ascot.

The only way Sky can get the rights is to bid for terrerstrial rights which they have said they will not do and racing authorities are happy with itv.

The best Sky can hope for is to get back Irish racing in 2022 and maybe persuade the Scottish tracks to swap when Musselburgh eventually swaps when it becomes part of Chester Group.

The Yorkshire courses still distrust Sky after the 2000’s debarcle which lead to Ruk and ATR2 being formed.

So the idea Sky can buy racing is not true.

Welcome aboard BK, always good to see another poster on here.

I’m a subscriber to RUK and would agree that their coverage is better than SSR’s. The picture quality is superior, overall the pundits are better and at least RUK don’t go for a break ten seconds after the runners pass the line in the big race of the day!!

RUK is by no means perfect(the Navan and Middle Park split screen was a nonsense). But we have to remember that RUK are there to cover all the day’s racing at their courses while ITV can concentrate on the big events. I wonder if some people’s views are coloured by their dislike of ITV’s coverage which leads them to watch RUK and then to expect them to provide the same amount of time to the big races that ITV can.

As for Sky trying to dominate the scene well no broadcaster should be trying to monopolise as there is too much racing for one channel.

@patriot1 firstly Ruk doesn’t exist it’s Rtv secondly they do go for breaks straight after the race they constantly doing this showing the same promo after numerous races and what makes it more of a disgrace is they are supposed to be a pay channel and not have adverts yet it’s always SkyBet or Coral or a promo for the channel.

Even Rachel boobed last week by saying we will go to Chris Dixon after the break.

Hilarious yesterday Rachel & Nick Luck begging Newmarket’s big race to be delayed as Fairyhouse was running 5 mins late and lucky for them they didn’t get the last horse in until Fairyhouse finished.

Having to sit there with your fingers crossed all afternoon is not how a racing channel should be run they were very very lucky with Newmarket yesterday.

What happened to the cooperation between HRI and BHA that was promised? A bunch of primary school kids could do better.
I think RTV need to take a stance and say to Ireland that if they can’t schedule races better then they won’t be shown live on the main channel on busy Saturdays.
Ascot is back on RTV on Saturday as a one off for champions day,it will surely confirm to the course that they was right to move to SSR.
