SSR was a bit amateurish today, picture break up when doing live links from Hexham, during the 3.00 from Hereford the camera cut to Alex Hammond writing something then realising she was on camera for a second.
Surely Sky need to be more professional than this if it wants to persuade tracks to switch in the future.
April 3, 2019 at 23:39 #1416005Oh dear Rtv have Aintree and Leopardstown on Saturday and 1.40 Leopardstown is just 5 mins before 1.45 at Aintree and 4.20 and 4.25 again 5 min gap.
Someone at Rtv will be crossing all their fingers that the horses and Leopardstown behave.
April 4, 2019 at 09:58 #1416026Yes, it’s sacrilege to show outside meetings during the Cheltenham and Aintree Festivals especially the latter and particularly on Grand National Day.
On Friday Wexford (Jumps) and Leicester follow at five minute gaps immediately after the Topham and the 4.40. It’s a complete ruination of the coverage the Topham, for example, should receive on a specialist channel to cut away from it one second after they have crossed the line. Thank goodness for ITV! The advantage to be gained is that the aftermath and re-run can be viewed on the terrestrial channel and may finish just in time to catch RTV’s belated re-run too!
ITV can also be employed for a proper, uninterrupted build up to and post race analysis of all Aintree races on Saturday, Steve. Quite frankly, if RTV wants to fulfil its boast of bringing top coverage of the best racing it could relegate the (in this case extremely unwelcome) Irish racing to RTV Extra. Looking at the history of Irish enthusiasm for the GN I would think only a small minority of Irish viewers would complain about a Flat meeting, FFS, being so treated.
The import, however, of being forced to switch to a mainstream channel to fully enjoy key moments of the Aintree Festival brings home the reality of why I and many others (thousands I hope) will be cancelling our RTV subs in a few weeks time.
April 4, 2019 at 20:24 #1416148It’s one thing to run a channel like this when it’s non subscription but when people are paying for it,it’s just not good enough.
I’m just waiting for them to show a race from punchestown 5 minutes before the 2,000 GuineasApril 4, 2019 at 22:15 #1416174I dislike the TV angles that SSR do via their vehicle like. RTV do not do it unless ITV are showing the same card then they seem to follow suit. I have no idea why.
I want to watch every horse jump a hurdle/fence not the first few and at such a bad angle.
Maybe I am old fashioned but I want to watch every horse in the race. Personally I think SSR and ITV are poor only because of their viewing angles though.
If you subscribe to RTV surely you have an i-pad/compuer/smart phone and so when they have several races close just log on and watch live from your selected track. I think it’s excellent.April 5, 2019 at 12:17 #1416242The angles chosen by every channel badly need looked at.
April 6, 2019 at 08:32 #1416449£10 for 10 months offer, just for today. Good value imo.

April 6, 2019 at 09:46 #1416468Yes, but an insult to loyal customers paying £25 per month.
April 6, 2019 at 10:51 #1416492Signed up for the £10 offer on Thursday (I received an invitation letter in the post) and it astonishes me that you still only get HD via Sky (I use Virgin Media, so have to use the RTV offer on Freeview).
The sound quality is also very poor for this day and age- there is a harsh sibilance when people are talking, particularly in the studio.
I certainly wouldn’t pay full whack for this service.
April 6, 2019 at 12:20 #1416526RTV more often than not do a £10 for 10 months or similar type of deal, why dont they just realise that at 25 quid a month its too expensive and have a set rate of 10 or even 15 and thats it.
April 27, 2019 at 13:38 #1423460Split screen first race with the idiot Stanley yapping all over the Haydock commentary to tell us Limerick had jumped.
Rtv are just a big joke.
April 27, 2019 at 20:15 #1423495Yes they are, I just watched Sandown on ITV today for the proper pre and post-race coverage the meeting should be given on a specialist channel but wasn’t. What you refer to above, Steve, is a typical example of RTV tarnishing existing coverage as it bends over backwards to appease Irish criticism. I read this week that RTV has gained 6000 Irish subscribers this year, however, it was bound to gain some and whether or not that is a good figure I don’t know. Hopefully it will lose more British subscribers than that and when I ring up in a few days to cancel I will tell them exactly why!
April 28, 2019 at 22:39 #1424611Yes, but an insult to loyal customers paying £25 per month.
They will probably match you if you kick up a fuss. I was going to leave after the £10 offer was up + they offered me it again.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!April 28, 2019 at 23:48 #1424989As Jack says, kick up a fuss. It doesn’t always work, but it’s worth a try, I know people who have benefited.
April 29, 2019 at 11:27 #1426444So, I wonder how many of the new Irish subscribers RTV boasts of are actually paying the full price!
If it gives me the next 5 months free I’ll stay but won’t be watching racing until late October anyway.
April 29, 2019 at 14:36 #1428586I’ve now left RTV, mostly because of the price and that I have zero interest in flat racing especially in Ireland. However the chap I spoke to on their customer services implored for me to stay, saying he would reduce the price I pay to £10 a month for the next 4 months. That would normally be a fair deal however I stood my ground and said no.
I just hope I get as generous a deal when it comes to October and the start of the next (proper) jumps season.
April 29, 2019 at 15:05 #1428801I might be tempted by that but will ask for 4 months free lol. The question is, Phil, will you qualify for any new member subscription that might be on offer in October or be treated as a former member resubscribing!
