I really happy that Might Bite won, I was confident about this horse despite lots of controversy regarding him. [”Scorpion”, ”has to much speed”, ”won’t stay up the hill”, ”one of the biggest lays of the festival”] Well, I am very glad that ”one of the biggest lays of the festival” turned into on of the greatest performances at this festival.
He repaid that faith in spades Hayper, some performance that, well done
March 16, 2017 at 01:31 #1292550A broken blood vessel…twice…too much pain to bear…
March 16, 2017 at 04:01 #1292566Blood vessel went with alpha apparently. That was our fear really wasn’t it?
A real shame
Fantastic winner thoough. Glad to see him get back up. Deserved to win going round like that for 2 and 3/4 miles only to blow it on the run in would’ve been devastating for connections. Especially after Kempton.
Well done winners
March 16, 2017 at 22:16 #1292836He strikes me as something of a cross between Denman and Sprinter Sacre, hype maybe but he’s clearly seriously good.
Only caught this on catch-up as at work on Wednesday. Watching him round the home turn it was exactly the mighty Denman that I thought of. There has not been an RSA like it since that demolition job ten years ago. The stand out performance, for me, of the first two days. Coming down the walkway post-race, as he was jig-jogging along, neck arched, it looked exactly as if he’d been taking lessons from Sprinter in how to show off! To do that meant he hadn’t exactly bottomed himself – which, given the reputation of the RSA for doing exactly that, speaks volumes. Quirks aside, this is one seriously talented horse. Interesting that today RW, when talking about Yorkhill, made mention of the quirkiness of Denman as a young horse, and of this being a trait of the best chestnut sons of Presenting. Might Bite may be bay and a son of Scorpion (Montjeu) but he also has Presenting as his dam sire. Hopefully, in a year’s time, we’ll have two ‘quirky‘ but talented customers heading into a GC showdown with Thistlecrack etc.March 16, 2017 at 22:39 #1292843Ruby would have a very difficult job kidding Yorkhill for 3m 2f+ he wasn’t really in a race, even with Might Bite powering along in front. Yorkhill would be much better suited by the QM imo.
One caveat with Might Bite: despite still having plenty of energy left yesterday, such a racing style has to take a lot out of a horse whatever his engine size. You cannot keep going to the well in that fashion even though you are hurrying there of your own accord. Nicky can often be tempted to take his festival horses to Aintree. I hope he resists and gives MB the rest of the season off.
I mentioned after Newbury how free-running Altior had been and how exuberant at some fences. I wouldn’t be surprised if the effects of the Game Spirit were still ailing him in the Arkle. These superstars sometimes need protecting from themselves.
