Eddie o leary confirms both Don Poli and Very wood go here.Surprised Very Wood goes for this. Only did so well in the Albert Bartlett last year because others went off too quickly. He’s all about stamina and the 4 miler would’ve suited well. Likely to get outpaced in RSA and will imo only have any chance if pace is once more overly strong.
Hmmm,
Another change of mind from connections.
Very Wood now goes for the obvious race for him, the 4 miler.

Obvious in your mind.
Clearly any venture into the unknown is not obviously beneficial. Just because a horse is a strong stayer at 3m doesn’t automatically mean he will get another mile, however weak the field may appear. Past results will confirm that class does not always prevail in this race. Personally, I believe there will be a decent pace in the RSA and that would have suited him. The biggest story though is why Gigginstown changed their minds in a couple of days. If you are not totally sure then don’t commit.
March 10, 2015 at 11:11 #822528Just a race to watch for me now with Coneygree out of it. I think he’s up against it in the Gold Cup but that’s the allure of the biggest pot of the meeting. I would have taken what looked liked the penalty kick option here and walk away with a good prize, rather than run, in my opinion, out of the places in the big one.
We shall see how it pans out.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
March 10, 2015 at 22:30 #823579Can somebody help me out here. I am struggling to find any angle on this race.
Anything to run a nice race each way would be great
Thank you
Martin
March 10, 2015 at 22:50 #823623I’m looking at If In Doubt and bricking it. I’ve got the best part of four figures coming back off the Don but I’m seeing a major Synchronised/Holywell angle on the Hobbs horse. He can’t jump a fence but neither could the former. 100/1 with Freds for next year’s blue riband…..
March 11, 2015 at 00:02 #823914I keep coming back to Apache Jack. All its best form is on firmer than soft ground and it beat Kings Palace over hurdles, well it would have if KP had not fell. 33/1 with PP and Boylesports ….. might be worth a sporting bet.
March 11, 2015 at 10:16 #825021If i can bring myself to trust Tom Scudamore to judge it from the front i’ll be backing Kings palace. Can i trust him though
He gets to 5/1 i can trust him
March 11, 2015 at 12:39 #825203Coneygree for me ! I like the way this horse goes about his business.
Listening to Martin Pipe though , you’d think King’s palace was in the winner’s enclosure already.
Mr. Pipe snr reckons King’s Palace is a good thing for this race .It doesn’t look like Martin Pipe is putting his money where his mouth is though, because the horse is 6/1 in a few places this afternoon.
That seems a huge price to me, with Coneygree out of it and it begs the question as to what odds he would be if the Gold Cup contender were lining up as well.
Its all about Don Poli for money and only a couple of firms are still going 2/1 on him. There seems more confidence behind The Young Master than Kings Palace and I’d be a bit concerned if I had backed the horse as to why nobody else seems to be wiring in. 6/1 looks HUGE.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
March 11, 2015 at 13:15 #825211I’ve backed Apache Jack and Southfield Theatre as I’m sticking with Festival form for my bets this year.

It does look huge doesnt it. Poli is simply too short for my interests

March 11, 2015 at 14:20 #825255Well done, Tommy. Hope you won plenty. All 25s for Gold Cup long gone!
March 11, 2015 at 14:34 #825271Get on Don Poli @ 10/1 with Ladbrokes for next year’s Gold Cup. Will be half of that by the end of the week.
Best value bet I have EVER seen!
Value Is EverythingMarch 11, 2015 at 15:08 #825316Well done Tommy, you kept faith in Don Poli from a long way out. Whether the winner should be 5/1, as he already is in a place, for next year’s Gold Cup before this year’s has even been run is another matter.
That was an impressive win, after having been nudged along at various stages but he’s just a horse that needs encouragement, rather than being outpaced.
Time will tell how good an RSA that was. The Young Master set off trying to dominate but his race was over once Kings Palace took over. Kings Palace had one bad mistake where the pilot got thrown forward in the saddle but the jockey did well to stay on and not actually lose that much momentum. As I had said, I didn’t like the look of Kings Palace’s small field form and although Kings Palace gave it a go from the front, the writing was on the wall when these, better class, horses drew alongside him. He ultimately folded tamely, to be beaten more than 20 lengths by a horse he was rated 2 lbs superior to coming into the race.
I’ll wait until Friday night to form an opinion on next year’s Gold Cup. There’s one or two there who might just have been as impressive against today’s opponents as Don Poli was and they are potentially as unexposed as he is at this stage as well.
As they said “Poli Ticks a lot of boxes” and will get a few people’s votes now.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
March 11, 2015 at 16:37 #825423Ladbrokes to their credit, laid the 10s for quite a while after the race DP for next year. He looks very good indeed and easily worth a nice few quid at that price. The only potential fly in the ointment could be Vautour imo
March 11, 2015 at 19:20 #825907Good luck to those who took the 25/1. Plenty of times today I thought he looked in trouble but he just kept on finding. Perhaps that sort of dour performance is what it takes to win a Gold Cup and he did remind me of a bit of Bobs Worth but I wouldn’t be in any hurry to take single figure prices for any race that is twelve months away.
March 11, 2015 at 20:32 #826106Pricking his ears from the third last to the line, frightening what he had in hand. Well done Joe with your 25/1
