Champ clearly has a massive engine
But let’s be honest his jumping is scratchy at best, he throws 2 or 3 bad ones in every race
I said to a co worker a couple of days ago that champ would tip up at some point in a big race
Hopefully champ is ok and makes it here as the race needs him, that was a bad fall and he may need time off
January 1, 2020 at 13:37 #1478671I cannot back Champ for anything at Cheltenham after that fall. Probably not his fault but not a good look for Geraghty to be sneaking a look behind all the time and then end up on the deck.
January 1, 2020 at 13:49 #1478672He does too much wrong in his races to be taking a short price
And because he is a hype horse he is always shorter than he should be anyway
January 1, 2020 at 15:38 #1478684I backed midnight shadow today as I really thought there was a chance champ would come a croper , I can’t believe he,s still around 3-1 favourite , if he cant win a average grade 2 chase how the hell is going to win the RSA , he’s got to be the worst value bet for the festival …some more of today’s winnings will be going onto Battleoverdoyen ….quote after his grade 1 winat the weekend ….he’s,had a good blow after …a good blow , winning grade 1,s while not fully fit will do for mev
January 1, 2020 at 16:48 #1478695I do really like Battleoverdoyen. Unlike Champ, he has done absolutely nothing wrong. However, he did not handle the travelling over well last year. That has to be a worry. I could not back him until I saw him in the paddock. And I am not totally convinced he wants an undulating track.
January 1, 2020 at 23:27 #1478740Might Bite fell as a novice, as did Blaklion and Weapons Amnesty
January 2, 2020 at 08:11 #1478755Did they fall at Cheltenham ? , also do you think he,s value at 3-1 ?
January 3, 2020 at 11:04 #1478817He isn’t value but I always forgive a novice one fall or a bad run
Relatively few novice festival winners go there unbeaten and now he gets an extra run, which is a bonus
January 3, 2020 at 12:05 #1478823It’s a pity that Minella Indo and Carefully Selected were pulled at Leopardstown. There are a few unknowns here. This could be a very good race.
January 3, 2020 at 13:56 #1478830I’d be worried about a lack of experience for minella indo now if I was a backer
He will likely have had 2 starts over fences when his main rivals will potentially have had 4
January 3, 2020 at 18:36 #1478848At what point does Willie study this race and think ” Why am I not running Carefully Selected here?”
January 3, 2020 at 20:26 #1478858I wouldn’t say he’s ruled out running here ever? People assuming NHC but not sure why

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!January 3, 2020 at 21:26 #1478862Carefully Selected needs soft or heavy ground. So cant see him being a good enough RSA horse unless its a bog.
Needs to jump better too whatever race he goes for.January 4, 2020 at 09:40 #1478915I’d imagine they will be hoping Allaho is there RSA horse
Faugheen will probably run in the marsh chase as that looks the easier option at this stage
January 4, 2020 at 12:28 #1478939To be a NHC horse, he’d need to qualify for it. Flogas won’t qualify him either. I presume there’s something there over 3miles between now + March, ground permitting. In my view, he doesn’t need soft or heavy. He needs good safe ground, has run on yielding plenty of times. Cheltenham will likely be good safe ground, it always is. No issues re ground.
His jumping on his debut needs to improve yes, but so does the current RSA favourites. CS has had one start i’d hope he’s got the improvement in him.
I actually think Allaho could well be their 2m5 horse if they used Vautour type tactics. He’s very keen in his races.
Unfortunately i also think Faugheen in their 2m5 horse so there will be plenty of splitting up to do + you could all end up right in the end. I wouldn’t fancy Allaho over 3miles at Cheltenham i don’t think.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!January 7, 2020 at 00:35 #1479137Just to clear up what I said about Carefully Selected Willie Mullins said in his stable tour that CS ran only twice last season due to lack of soft ground. So don’t bank on him enjoying himself at Cheltenham if it dries out.
January 7, 2020 at 08:01 #1479143Re Battleoverdoyen, PU is never going to read well, but whilst the more recent winners of the RSA have been well known and emerged from either being victorious when last at Cheltenham (or going close), history paints a different picture. Blaklion pulled up in the Albert Bartlett before winning RSA. Boston’s Angel pulled up in an Albert Bartlett before winning an RSA. Might Bight couldn’t beat horses rated in the mid 120’s over hurdles 11 months before winning the RSA. O’Faolains Boy finished 20 lengths behind At Fishers Cross in the AB, before winning RSA. Lord Windermere finished 8th in his last hurdle race losing to rubbish horses before winning RSA. All of them won this having achieved nothing at Cheltenham over hurdles. Were they put off by the undulations?
Don’t see the point of taking one race as a horses form, even more so when he supposedly didn’t travel over well, eat up and lost a shoe mid race. Sounds like it all went wrong for a horse that’s otherwise unbeaten
