This is why i cannot stomach Real Madrid..On Yahoo sports today they report Real Madrid have now told Ronaldo he must make the next move to join them,There doing nothing more.So basically they have shown a slight interest but only enough so as not to be up on a "tapping up charge"!!
And now they want Ronaldo to do the donkey work as he won,t get charged by Fifa and so it appears Ronaldo just wants to go of his own accord. They did this with Van Nistlerooy, they just love to unsettle players and then wave the cash about.
Atleast Barcelona have some class about them and the way they do transfers etc.It just stinks how contracts do not mean anything anymore to players. We have a good squad at utd and this type of thing is unsettling to say the least especially with the likes of Giggs,Scholes coming to the end and players like Hargreaves are a waste of time.Seriously need to buy well over the next couple of months.

Absolute bollocks. Barca tap ..the same as every one else
They are not a "classy" club at all. Sour supporters for one thing
and no class when dealing with referees who conveniently retire when the going gets hot too
Man Utd complaing about tapping? Completely laughable. Owen Hargreave? Japp Stam? Shall we go on?
So because Man utd won the Champions on penalites they are suddebnly "bigger" than Madrid? I suppose Porto were the "biggest" side in the world when they won it a couple of years back
If you dont understand the allure that Madrid has for every latin footballer (let alone elsewhere) then you simply havent been following the game.

Well i wont stoop to using foul language on a forum but it is a fact that Man utd have been bigger than Real madrid for a good while now.Even Chelsea are bigger than Real!!! Real madrid are clinging onto the european champs days of old.
They cannot even keep a manager for a decent enough period hence why there not as good as they should be.Porto are an average team and always will be,The fact they cheat by bribing refs may explain their recent successes in europe or do you disagree?????
I,m not disputing the attraction of Real for latin players if you read my posts!!!!!!!!! i,m disputing how players these days(mostly foreign)go to a club and then get treated like kings by the manager, board and fans. They then chuck this loyalty back in the faces and P**S off after 1 or 2 seasons usually.
He has just signed a new contract for gods sake so to then backstab Utd by running at the sight of more money is my reason to take issue with this player.
Real madrid as ever have acted like the school sneak and done things covertly when they should be up on a Fifa charge!!! Utd certainly did,nt tap up Hargreaves,His name was touted as a possible buy for nearly 3 seasons,he just did,nt know whever to leave Bayern at the time as his career was in good form with the Germans. If he was tapped up i think Bayern would have said so.I understand if you are a Liverpool,Man city,Arsenal or Chelsea fan as the hatred of Utd is clearly showing. It,s normal for Utd fans to have to justify anything they say as we are faced with the same grief as Liverpool had in the 80,s..jealousy.

You dont get it do you?
Man utd are neither here nor there to latin players (and many others too) They are equivalent of Bayern munich… perhaps
Show me which top Brazilian Italian Spaniard Argentinian has lmaoured to join the supposedly massive Man utd in the past few years?
and Bayern did take issue over Man utds tapping

I get it it,s you who do not and i,ll explain why,Like it or not and this is fact and not because im biased but, Manchester utd are the most famous club in the world,we are back at No1 as the richest in the world and we are the best supported who attract a lot of the best players in the world. After the Munich air crash the popularity around the world started to climb and climb. That is why players want to come to Utd,so to say Utd is neither here nor there to latin players is pretty naive.
We are a damm sight bigger than Bayern so i think your just incredibly naive or just "on a wind up".Over the last few years we have had Heinze(argie),Kleberson(brazil),Nani(cape verdi, portugal),Anderson(Brazil)Ronaldo(portugal),Tevez(argie) etc etc so how can you say we do not get any decent latinos?????
I,m sure you will say none of them were top players!!!! It is you that seems to think it,s ok in football to dishonour contracts, forget loyalty and make a mockery of the "gentlemans game".
All i know is if he is sold,we will buy 2 players atleast with the same (if not more) and better qualities than him.I just have a problem with the way players have no loyalty and are motivated by money.
June 19, 2008 at 14:19 #169284If Anyone thinks Utd are getting a rough deal i have to say that i have no Sympathy they dont even have to look back to far……
ROONEY – utd left it so late before making their offer (under value) 4 days before window shut that everton had to sell him at the price utd wanted or not sell which would not have been in their intrests as Rooney would have caused such unrest in the camp, it got so bad that David moyles had to bring action against Rooney for what he wrote in his book, so to me they have no right to moan on this occassion anyway it’s not as if they are not getting anything for him
June 19, 2008 at 14:44 #169286I wouldn’t argue that Real Madrid are viewed in S/America and some areas of Europe as a bigger team than Man Utd but on a global basis, it’s Man Utd who are without doubt the bigger team. They are richer, have a bigger fan base and are the most famous football club in the world…….and I can say this as a person who hates Man Utd but not due to jealousy which is a misjudgement made by many Man Utd supporters regarding why a lot of football fans dislike them.
As for Ronaldo, is he vital to Man Utd for them to be sucessful in the next few years? If not then they should take the £100m and move on.

"some" areas?

I think that people in this country swallow the hype about man utd and other premiership sides a little too freely
The key point is that the best players in the world invariably come from the latin countries, so its significant in that respect.

I totally agree with what you say and also with Batman, yes surprisingly i agree the Rooney deal was a bad bit of PR for Utd.I will criticise Utd as i will any other teams when episodes like this arise. The way it was handled left a sour taste.
You would,nt have dreamed it could have happened in football before the Premiership etc was unveiled that players would be motivated by cash ahead of loyalty.Contracts being unworthy of the paper their wrote on.Also to put my opinion in,I actually believe the best players in the world come from Spain,Italy and Holland.
The Uk is simply way behind in churning out as many world class players as Spain,Holland and Italy. With regards to the topic though,I think if you sign a 5yr contract then you honour that contract as with any length of contract.Barring injury or extreme personal circumstances forcing a move,A player should stay and give the club the service he agreed.Money is ruining everything in this day and age.
What gets me though is a lot of Racing fans moan and whine about Godolphin buying seasoned and winning horse from other trainers to try and buy wins as oppose to training them theirselves. To me it is the same as this situation,Real madrid are trying to buy a seasoned player because they have seen his improvement, skill and marketing value. They did,nt see the raw talent as Utd did but want the near finished product. If this turns out that it is the media just creating a story then it is in pretty poor taste just to sell papers.

The 70,s and 80,s Brazil were awesome Pele,Zico,Socrates,Junior etc but i don,t think their anything special of late.

Just started to read this thread and am staggered by your blinkered view of top-class football and the politics which control it.
Just looked at the recent crop of "nothing special" Brazilians over the last 15 years. One indicator may be FIFA World Player of the Year
94 Romario
96 Ronaldo
97 Ronaldo
99 Rivaldo
02 Ronaldo
04 Ronaldinho
07 KakaBrazil have also in the same period won 2 World Cups and been Runners Up (when heavily favoured) in another.
United are not the richest club in the world. How can they be when they are founded on debt?
They are not the best club in the world, look at the records.
They may have the biggest fan base, I’ll give you that.
They are playing dirty little games to get where they are today, just like every other top club does. They screw clubs and individuals to get what they need (just like others do) but Real are the past masters at it and it’ll take a lot more than a bunch of domestic honours, 3 European Titles and a large fanbase to get to where Real are.
Ronaldo may go and weaken the team a little, he may stay and his play may decline. Fergie can’t go on forever and the replacement may well not be as good or may not settle in.
Querioz may go and the rich seam of Portuguese prospects at favourable prices may dry up.
Giggs, Scholes and Neville are near or at the end.
Chelsea are ready to reload with a new boss and a boatload of cash. Arsenal will be at least as good next season, Liverpool will improve as will Everton, Tottenham and those guys over the road.
All in all the next few years should be a bumpy ride at OT.
Hope you enjoyed last season, you may be hanging on to those memories for a while yet.June 20, 2008 at 15:09 #169478as i have thought for some time, yesterdays comments indicate that his mind was made up some time ago
Hes an emotional and somewhat beligerent character. Not the sort of person whos going to be thrilled not to get his own way. This could get ugly

Good post Peter. Spot on

Hope you enjoyed last season, you may be hanging on to those memories for a while yet.I won,t even give you the decency of an answer to 99%of your "tripe" printed above. One thing i have learned is never try and debate football and the Utd topic with someone with a clear hatred of anything RED!!!!!
You talk complete tosh and when you utter nonsense such as "a bunch of domestic honours" as if the La Liga league is somewhat harder and more prestigios than the premier league. We have dominated the premier league since it started and apart from the Arsenal challenge and brief Chelsea interruption no-one has been close.
A bumpy ride is what you should be feeling from that "hate man utd" bandwagon your hitching a ride on…I am guessing your a "mickey mouse"follower???????
June 20, 2008 at 15:54 #169493i should imagine big phil has done all he can during euro’08 to convince the little tart he would be better off moving to madrid – might as well try to get rid of the main reason chavski didn’t win the league last time out to make it easier next time
June 20, 2008 at 16:28 #169502Utd will not let him go staright away and good job too,I would make him report for pre season training with the reserves for starters!! Make the prima donna realise you don,t dictate who you want to play for when you have recently signed a long term contract!!! Honour the 5 years!! We only want players dedicated to the club and not a quick bank balance boost !!
June 20, 2008 at 19:09 #169513Quite simply Ronaldo is signed for another 4 seasons at Old Trafford.
Its obvious that Big Phil wants him to leave Man Utd so Chelsea can have a better chance at winning the Premiership even though they wont have a cat in hells chance of winning.
On the one hand he has won everything he can at Man Utd, doinked Gemma Atkinson and is dating another fit bird.
Real Madrid are very overated and are always in debt and get funded by the local government in Madrid to help with the finances.
Man Utd are under no obligation to sell him and could even send him on loan to Accrington if they wanted, but £70million is a lot of money but i cannot see Man Utd selling him.
I bet Phil wants him to go to Madrid so he can sign him for Chelsea,
