Just on radio and sky news that he has finaly come out and said he would like to join Madrid, if it is true that they want to sign him…..
No player is worth the money Madrid are offering so i think utd should sell him he has one of the biggest Ego’s around and appears with his quotes that he would love to be seen as a 80million player (his transfer fee) does anyone know what price he is to get player of tournament?
June 5, 2008 at 16:24 #166586Ronaldo has expressed a desire to play for Real Madrid ever since he was a kid – he was on a Spanish TV station just 10 days ago and said that he would like to play for Real Madrid in the future – so what’s new?
He has apparently told a Brazilian reporter that he wants to play for Madrid, yet this reporter can’t even tell us when he spoke to Ronaldo

If Ronaldo told the reporter that he wants to play for Madrid NEXT SEASON then I’m sure we would all like this reporter to prove his claims. If he can’t then there is absolutely no ‘new’ news to report at all – Ronaldo will say he was misquoted and that will be the end of it.
What a lot of people seem to be forgetting is that it’s up to Man Utd if they want to sell Ronaldo – it’s not up to Ronaldo and Madrid to instigate a move. Ronaldo can say who he wants to play for all he likes, Madrid can offer as much as they want, but if United don’t want to sell (and by all accounts they don’t and won’t) then Ronaldo stays put.
I am very confident about Ronaldo being at Man Utd next season, though I would expect him to move to Madrid before his current four year contract runs out.

June 6, 2008 at 08:57 #166700It would be very good business (IMO) for United to take the money for him while he’s at the top of his game.
Last season was just a dream come true for all concerned and I really don’t think that it will be dupicated next time with Ronaldo’s head being full of distraction. The kickings that he would take will start to wear on him also I think.
United can plug any gaps in their squad with the money they’d get and they would have a happier environment to work in without the contreversy that his continued presence would bring.
June 6, 2008 at 09:47 #166715He is such an important player for Man Utd though.
He changed games on his own last season, at times.
Would be a massive loss to both Man Utd and the Premiership.
June 6, 2008 at 11:12 #166740there is one way to stop all the talk…………
if RONALDO comes out in front of the cameras and states he wants to stay with utd, until then it will continue…..
his ego is huge he would love to be know as a 100mill player

Absolutely correct – I said exactly the same just last week.
All this will he/won’t he stay talk is becoming silly. If Ronaldo just came out and stated his intentions then that would be the end of it. But like you say, I think the man is getting a bit of a kick out of it all.

June 6, 2008 at 16:47 #166897He has said a few times lately that he’s happy in Manchester for now but who knows in the future?
Then the Real PR machine got going and this together with the Prem/CL double seems to have unsettled him. How can he improve on that at Man U?
Silly money is available to United if he leaves now but look what happened to Ronaldinho and Kaka-12 months after their wonder season they were not the same player as the hype and injuries got to them and their stock dropped alarmingly.
I repeat that United should take the money or they will get a distracted player who is being paid a lot more the other stars in the squad and who is due some burnout.
As important as the Ronaldo of 2007/8 was to United he is not irreplaceable. A lot of his success was due to the selfless play of his colleagues and any world class player would thrive in that system.Another twist to this tale is the role that Nike are going to play in it. United play in Nike and Ronaldo is needed as the face of the brand. They are able/prepared to pay much more than Adidas who supply Real, so this factor may keep him at United or maybe send him to Barcelona who also play in Nike.
June 7, 2008 at 10:18 #167102It could be a ruse to encourage Man Utd to raise his wages – agan !
I think he’ll still be a Manchester United player next season, because thats exactly what the board will do – unless, of course, he really does want to go and Real Madrid offer stupid money for him.

June 9, 2008 at 16:10 #167580Its quite simple
We have a vastly overinflated view of the Premiership here. Man Utd are seen in about the same light as Bayern Munich by latin players. Good club etc but not….
Real or Barca
Man Utd is the dream club for those from Oslo, Dublin and Salford, but its an also ran for the Latins
Perhaps more so than Barca even, Real is the destination.
He will go. Fergies threats have probably made matters worse for Man Utd, but I think Ronaldo has long since made his mind up. And tahts fair enough.
June 18, 2008 at 11:46 #169023I,m just sick and tired of these egotistical players like Ronaldo who come to a club, get paid a huge wage, get the best treatment and care of a manager like Sir Alex,Play with some of the best players in the world,Play the best football of their career and to top it win the League and champions league and then wish to leave or it appears they want to leave!!!
If this is true that he wants to go then if i was the Glazers i,d stop his wages now!! We had the same trouble with Van Nistlerooy,Heinze and Jaap Stam.Money is the motivation these days not loyalty to a club!!
To go to Real Madrid(there is only one team in spain !) is a step down in my opinion,They will never have stability so long as they keep firing their mangers but if he wants to go then get shot of him asap.I just pray we buy a real hardman in the summer to break his legs in next seasons champs league if we meet he he he .dddddddddddddddd
June 18, 2008 at 12:53 #169051He’ll go, for the same reasons Neville, Giggs and Scholes stayed. Which is fair enough, I would too. Ferguson has never hesitated getting rid of players when he judged their time was up, why shouldnt that be reciprocated by a player? I reckon he’s a very, very good footballer but not the best in the world.

It sounds like your a utd fan? but after reading your comments are you? after all he has done for utd this season and you hope if he wants away you get a player who breaks his leg’s? do you not think he has now done all he can with utd? and he wants to try his luck else where? im not a utd fan but if i was i would be gutted to lose him but at same time i dont want a player who wants away and wont confirm his loyalty to the club so be happy to get 100mill or what ever it is, and knowing utd wont be long till they have another world star…
and as for trouble with Stam he never wanted away, Ferguson thought he had lost a yard or 2 of pace and at stams age 31 the money was to good to turn down (16mill) he said he later went on to regret selling him as he got it wrong…
June 18, 2008 at 12:56 #169054I think the uncertainty benefits Ronaldo and his financial team – with each day that passes Real offer him even more money and Utd have to up the ante to keep him. You can hardly knock him or his people for that. He is the best player I have seen since Diego Maradona in his prime – knocking him for having a "huge ego" is completely wide of the mark – he has anything but that, a charming, intelligent, family oriented young man.
i agree get as much money as you can, but i do think he has a huge ego, he aint married so i assume mean his own Family siblings??

The "break his legs "comment hnestly was meant in jest and tongue in cheek.True he has helped win us the league and champs league but so did players such as Ole Gunner Solksjaer,Roy keane,Paul Scholes,Ryan Giggs and i could go on.
My point is this day and age football is being ruined by the types of player like Ronaldo who go to a club, get the huge pay packet and then run after a couple of seasons as soon as some like Real come sniffing.I do understand it could be all hype and he wants to stay and it,s just the media using their "lies"to sell papers again.Players like i mentioned had loyalty, they won many trophies and could have moved on but they knew they were at the best club(or one of the best) in the world at that time.
i think he could win a lot more at Utd and being the age he is,he does have plenty of time to go abroad. What about staying to defend titles instead of going for a bigger wage at Real.
I,m just a fan of the old type of player who was,nt motivated by £££££,s.He is a great player anyone will admit but he does seem very cocky and bigger than he really is.The story i read regarding Stam was there was a bust up in the changing rooms and when Fergie blew his lid at Stam he decided to pack up and go(a bit like the Beckham incident).Yeah by the way i,m a United fan since 1983,Used to go regularly when it was cheaper and before ii had a family etc.Anyway if he does go they cannot let him go for less than £100 million IMO,I don,t agree with the huge transfer fees but as we all know it,s part and parcel of the game unfortunately.

You really think so?
Maybe in Oslo Dublin and Salford that would be the view
I would suggest that right across the rest of europe and the whole of south america, that would not be the view
Almost certainly not

i can see how it would be seen as step down, Utd are Champions in England & Europe Madrid are champions only in Spain, i find it hard to see a lesser team if you like, he’s won it all with utd maybe he see’s with Madrid a challange?? anyway untill he coms out & states he wants away it purly speculation
June 19, 2008 at 11:05 #169226That’s the point Batman, he already has said he wants to come out and play for Real Madrid. Ever since he arrived in England he has been saying he wants, at some stage in his career, to play for them.
If I were Fergie I’d just sit the lad down and look him in the eye and ask him who he wants to play for during the next season or two. There is absolutely no point in messing around. If he wants to play for Madrid then sell him and get the £70 or £80m that is being touted.
It would be completely pointless keeping the lad against his wish for two seasons and then let him go on the cheap near the end of his contract.
