……….To be fair there are clearly a lot of people in the Racing media that have been hired for reasons other than talent so it is a little unfair to single out Rishi who is no worse than most and better than some….I am not entirely comfortable with the race/nationality angle being concentrated on here.

Why is there always someone who has to chip in with the race card angle? It seems to me that a few people think he is a pretty average presenter who is perhaps lucky to have found himself back at Racing UK, no more than that.
March 16, 2010 at 19:05 #282993I understand your concerns Bob, but we should be able to discuss these points without any fingers being pointed. Many folk, quite rightly believe, that it should be the best man or woman for the job, it is what equal opportunities for all are built upon. The man in question no doubt has presenting qualities that quite rightly thrust him onto television screens, but some may think it shouldn’t be on a racing channel, as he is quite clearly under-qualified for a channel that usually presents people with a great knowledge of the horse racing discipline. Yes he is a presenter, but perhaps it is the channel producers who have failed to put him on the right programme, one where he would have a more settled outlook. It has everything to do with knowledge and insight, and zero to do with ethniticty on a critics part.
March 16, 2010 at 19:06 #282994Racing on T.V. needs a clear out – it’s stale – jobs for old pals.
My comment has nothing to do with race – just don’t think that he’s the best at his job.
I don’t find this a subject to get overly excited about either.
March 16, 2010 at 19:24 #283000Clearly Zenjah your previous comment amongst those of others earlier in this thread suggested that Rishi was hired because of his ethnicity………..I am the last person on earth to ever ‘play the race card’ but it was clearly emerging here where it clearly doesn’t belong………..that’s all.
March 16, 2010 at 19:43 #283006Oh well – we think and live on a different planet.

March 16, 2010 at 23:52 #283114……Mmm indeed ‘old boy’ thats a clever trick Zenjah, having posted something like ‘what’s it like to be hired not on the basis of your talent’ re Rishi Persad and then been effectively challenged for potentially racist assumptions, you have then edited the post to leave the challenger looking like they are making an unfounded allegation………..interesting tactic but surely more honourable to withdraw an inappropriate remark rather than just erase it without explanation?
In any case I am glad that we are now agreed that Rishi Persad was not hired because he is ‘ non white’.
Happy to move on………..
March 18, 2010 at 01:31 #283504Is Rishi not still walking back from Longchamp after Zarkava’s win?
March 19, 2010 at 11:16 #283875Seems bizarre.
Whenever i have watched him on BBC, he reminds me of someone from ‘another sport’, who has been chucked in at the deep end to try and produce some form of coverage of horse racing, without knowing that much about it.

March 20, 2010 at 13:15 #284271is disapointing that RUK would rather employ a lightweight like persad than the excellent ian carnaby who did another fine job on course at cheltenham this week.
March 20, 2010 at 13:24 #284273Has he left thee BBC? ( own volition or otherwise)
Thought he might have been scampering back for the
top hat fest in June. If the number of presenters is being pared down that might be no bad thing.March 20, 2010 at 16:17 #284312

The worst thing about any discussion like this is overcoming attempts at free speech being stifled by those who are overly liberal in their approach to political correctness.
The question of Rishi and race would never have been raised if he was seen as competent and talented in his privilleged area of employment. People who question the realities of modern employment and human resources processes are not necessarily racists. Perhaps those that want to stifle free and open discussion are leaning towards Fascism?
