It was a pleasant surprise to see Rishi Persad back presenting the racing on Racing UK today, I believe he left the channel a few years to concentrate on presenting racing on the BBC, but since their coverage is now virtually non-existant and he was relegated into covering the dire snooker, he has made the right choice of returning to RUK.
March 13, 2010 at 23:48 #282172If it is a case of getting an old job back I personally wish they had auditioned for someone new. Can’t think what he brings to the table other than being able to get a few words out of Stoutey.

Agree with Stilvi. How did Rishi get a job in racing in the first place? His cluelessness has been obvious many times on the BBC. Equal opportunity employment gone wrong?
March 14, 2010 at 10:10 #282222Equal opportunities seems to ignore British folk of African or Carribean descent, and focus on those with an asian background. He will be on the bbc news next year.
March 14, 2010 at 10:25 #282225What’s Andrew Loughran doing these days please?
March 14, 2010 at 10:26 #282228Do you mean Angus?
March 14, 2010 at 10:36 #282233for what it matters, Rishi is from the carribean, Trinidad.
March 14, 2010 at 10:44 #282237Personally,i am a fan of Rishi,he has an excellent working relationship with Clare Balding,(in front of the cameras anyway)! What i have noticed on more than one occassion is that he certainly knows how to "rattle" Sheikh Mohammed,i get the distinct impression the ruler of Dubai has no time for him!

Suggest you check your facts before blurting such crude generalisations
Persad is an Anglo-Trinidadian which may explain his semi-chumminess with Stoute, a fellow Windian
None of which means either should be permitted to speak on a supposed specialist racing channel
Mr Persad is an ideal presenter for the minority interest sports the BBC fill their afternoons with from time to time: bowls and snooker
Well-spoken, easy-on-the-eye, bland, lightweight and non-contentious
Given those attributes are swoon-material for many a middle-class lady of a certain age I’d have thought he’d be an ideal foil to Sue Barker at Wimbledon

Yes indeed. I was surprised how nervous he seemed, how inarticulate; and how his "pitch" is alarmingly weighted towards terrestrial gush rather than specialist acuity. He will need to sharpen his act if he’s to survive on Racing UK – and I suspect he will.
March 14, 2010 at 11:19 #282246Did a good job on RUK yesterday I thought. Certainly less opinionated than some of the usual anchors.

I find Rishi bland and inoffensive but lacking in any real depth; in short, perfect for modern television.
Nothing personal against him- I’ve never met him, and I’m sure that he’s a perfectly nice fellow- but simple jealousy, I suppose. I’ve been following racing since 1980 and wrote off to the Racing Post, Timeform, Raceform, etc many years ago (after my GCSEs, A Levels and degree) and didn’t receive many responses; whenever I see Rishi as the token non-white face representing our sport, I think "that should be me."
Such is life.
March 14, 2010 at 21:55 #282362I am not a fan,he does not bring anything to racing UK
Who next? Clare Balding
March 14, 2010 at 22:16 #282366When sticking to the obvious, Rishi’s not too bad but to me he seems to get a bit overwhelmed when asked to interview subjects that he is in awe of and inane questions are the result.
As has been mentioned he comes across as a pleasant, well-dressed, well-spoken young man but with obvious limitations at the moment.March 15, 2010 at 20:13 #282577Please don’t bring Angus Loughran back, he’s the WORST one for the "fascinating race, this…" drivel.
Pershad is as dull as ditchwater, he should be working in a call centre or mobile phone shop.
March 16, 2010 at 00:54 #282676Have to agree with the majority of posters, what Persad actually brings to the channel in terms of entertainment/informative knowledge is minimal.
To be honest i wouldnt even notice when he isnt there which is never a good sign. Its not that he is bad its just that he isnt really anything.
A few presenters who are opinionated, willing to offer their views even when controversial and knowledgable about matters more so than the average viewer are what i would like to see – im bored with the same churned out, mundane, tedious, looking at the race card and discussing the favourite drivel we see on a day to day basis.
They are supposed to be experts.
March 16, 2010 at 18:26 #282981As presenters go – like the rest he’s lame…
