As usual, Matthew either talking through his pocket or his backside. Either way, not a clue about race riding or tactics. Give up, Matthew, before the men in white coats cotton on to you.
KSooner Cormack gets rid of you the better, you’re just a very negative person Conundrum, I’m quite a bit up today actually.

Jeezus jumpin jahosaphine! I don’t know what people expect……Hughsie rode Paco Boy to perfection and had he been good enough he would have won……..had it been any other horse in front of him he would have won doing cartwheels.
We are talking here about possibly one of the all time great milers who in many peoples view went too soon if anything but she is still going forward in the dying stages and not stopping…….As Lydia said after the race that set the race up for Paco Boy and if anything he has been a bit flattered by the result…..
What you have to consider is when race riding if a horse goes too soon it’s not just your finishing run that comes into play it’s also the fact the horse that went too soon almost always comes back to you, something you are depending on to happen……….she so good she never and really it’s that simple.

Richard Hughes done nothing wrong in defeat and it was a top ride, it’s irresponsible to watch Goldikova go for home and still sit there doing nothing but that wasn’t his fault as there was no room.
Paco Boy had all the momentum coming with a winning run absolutly sithing down the gap but with about 100 yards left to go the gap never closed and you got to put that down to Goldikova’s guts and class.

The fact that the horse in front of him – about 5 lengths in front of him when he was finally asked for his effort – was a 133-rated filly and not just an average Group-class runner is undoubtedly significant.

If you’re that much up on the day, Matthew, why not go and treat yourself to some pop and crisps before starting your homework.
On the other hand, if you mean you’re quite a bit up your own backside today, then what’s new. Thanks for the psycho-analysis but as far as my negativity is concerned, you just seem to have that effect on me with your constant race-riding opinions.
Tell you what, one of these days before you set off for school I’ll put you up on a horse and we’ll see how stylish a rider you are.

K
I’ll take that as a compliment, thanks.June 15, 2010 at 17:39 #300907Thought he gave away too much ground to a horse of Goldicova’s calibre and would have given his horse a better chance ridden a bit closer without jeopardising Paco Boy’s optimum run style. That said the best horse won and Goldicova looked to be idling a bit in the last 100 yards so probably would have been difficult to pass in any event. He got out of jail in the Coventry.
Still, he’s one of the best there is, riding way better since he left Juddmonte imo.
June 15, 2010 at 18:01 #300912Oh i though he rode the horse well but goldikova was just better. What horses though! WOW!! Can’t wait to see them again

Seconded.
I’ll take my hat of to Goldikova – fantastic run, and had Paco Boy been set loose earlier, well, Goldikova would have probably done him anyway.
Does not diminish how good Paco Boy is one iota.

So don't run, just like the others always do
June 15, 2010 at 18:41 #300925I thought that was Paco Boy’s best ever effort, by some way.
Very difficult to be sure about all the what-ifs. I thought the filly quickened away from the field and that if Paco Boy (who probably only just gets a mile) had gone with her earlier he may have been first to run out of puff. But that is all conjecture. Fun conjecture though.
June 15, 2010 at 18:55 #300929Before anyone starts moaning " Matthews backed a loser,
therefore, it must be a bad ride ".I actually backed Goldikova and am delighted but anyone
who backed Paco Boy must be livid with Richard Hughes,
shocking ride, terrible.I backed them both, start of a 2×2 double, so I can be objective I think. Paco Boy was my main fancy but to suggest Richard Hughes cost Paco Boy the race is ludicrous, Goldikova is an amazing mare, whenever she was challaged she’d have had too much for Paco Boy.
I’d go so far to say he’ll never beat Goldikova wherever, whenever.June 15, 2010 at 19:01 #300930Split second decisions as to whether he got a run. I think Goldikova is a very special mare and she pulled out that bit more when needed.
June 15, 2010 at 19:06 #300932I thought that was Paco Boy’s best ever effort, by some way.
Hmm. Not so sure about that. Paco Boy have Dream Eater an 8lb beating, just like he did in the Sandown Mile in 2009. Hard to think of many reasons for Dream Eater improving significantly on his old form on his 22nd start and seventh at a mile.
June 15, 2010 at 19:25 #300934Rory touches on a key point. When they came out of the stalls Paco lit up like a christmas tree. Hughes had no choice but to get him in behind runners. Given the way the field closed up towards the rail he was lucky to get as clear a run as he did. He might have wanted to get going a few strides earlier but I’d bet Peslier would have liked to be towed along into the race by Rip for a lot more strides further. He had to go on on Goldikova plenty soon enough. Those berating Hughes underestimate how long Goldikova was in front on her own. Race didn’t pan out 100% perfectly for either horse or jockey (when does it?). Best horse won, imho. Margin suggests -as many suspected – Paco is better this year than last.

Agreed. If anything Goldikova has run a fair bit below her best form today.

Get rid of Conundrum? Are you serious?

Kenundrum is a legend, this man has a powerful pen which is mightier than the sword and his quick wit and banter is sharper than a sharks jaws but deep down he’s a cute little pussy cat or going by his selections in TRF tipping championships a slower than average tortoise.

As for Richard Hughes ride on Paco Boy I thought he rode a blinder when you break the race down and look at how close he was from winning the race, i agree with Cormack in that it was Paco Boys best performance and with a bit more luck in running Hughes would of ideally been closer to Goldikova but the gaps were tight. What do you think Hughes should of done Matthew01, gone around the lot on the outside?

June 15, 2010 at 22:01 #300974Being one of the muppets that fell for the Rip Van hype,i have an unbiased view of the result and anyone that thought Richard Hughes rode a great race on Paco Boy are fooling themselves,he rode just as bad a race on Strong suit but lady luck kept him from losing his trousers,he even had a moment or two on Canford Cliffs that would have had his supporters flapping for a second! As for Olivier Pesliers ride on Goldikova, tender, would be an understatement and had Hughsy not had at least 5 lengths to make up he would have caught the Frenchman napping!
