I thought that was Paco Boy’s best ever effort, by some way.
Hmm. Not so sure about that. Paco Boy have Dream Eater an 8lb beating, just like he did in the Sandown Mile in 2009. Hard to think of many reasons for Dream Eater improving significantly on his old form on his 22nd start and seventh at a mile.
Agreed. If anything Goldikova has run a fair bit below her best form today.
I’d agree with that, too.
With the benefit of 20/20 hindsight, Goldikova has never performed near her best in her early races.June 15, 2010 at 22:19 #300980I thought that was Paco Boy’s best ever effort, by some way.

Interesting concept – has it never been hinted at before on here…?!
June 16, 2010 at 00:27 #300998As much as I want to blame Hughes – and I really really do! – I just can’t.
Paco didn’t break well and then got lit up to boot. He then pulled quite hard for a couple of furlongs, didn’t get the only gap he could have possibly got in time and then almost ran down a super mare. If Hughes
could
have let Paco stride on a bit to sit slightly closer with cover, then I think he would have. Sadly, he had to sit where he was. Hughes would have rightly come in for some serious stick if he let Paco take off with him around the field just to keep tabs on Goldikova. He made the very best best of a bad situation IMO.
To see Paco close down Goldikova the way he did after expending so much energy early on, in what seemed a pretty quick mile was some effort. I also think Goldi was getting tired rather than idling.
I have the Paco Boy of 2010 as the best miler in europe.

Then, as DJ points out, you’d need to justify the 10lbs or so improvement that Dream Eater has suddenly found – after 2 seasons of running to about the same mark, in his 7th race over the course, his 7th over the distance, and his umpteenth on similar ground.
My money would be on Goldikova not running to her best in either of her races so far this season, a theory that will be tested this afternoon by the running of Byword in the POW.June 16, 2010 at 06:12 #301012Correct me if I am mistaken, but didn’t Hughes use the same tactics on Paco Boy in last year’s renewal?
He didn’t flinch despite Zacinto stinkfacing him. It was a faultless ride and Hughes was in complete control. He produced the same late turn-of-foot and was downed by arguably the best miler of the past 20 years. No shame in that at all.
June 16, 2010 at 06:32 #301015Looking at yesterdays replays, the biggest culprit of
a shocking ride had to be Richard Hills on Elzaam, had the
race in the bag and instead of making of sure of victory,
he dropped his hands and took it easy
June 16, 2010 at 06:41 #301016Don’t know about Hills dropping his hands but he was weak as piss, any decent jockey would have got Elzaam home in front.

"He (Dream Eater) has had a wind operation, and has definitely improved"???
June 16, 2010 at 13:27 #301128So I get a Private Message from Cormack telling me to stop this feud with Matthew and if I don’t stop my insulting or snide remarks I’ll be banned.
Gosh almighty, what is this forum coming to??? Has Cormack lost his sense of humour? Can he not read between the lines? Show me where I have attacked someone’s person and I’ll hold my hands up. Yes I’ve thrown put-downs around but isn’t that just normal discourse when two people are disageeing and confined to an exchange of non-verbal words on an internet forum. Stop taking yourself and your forum so seriously please Cormack. Forums like this will still be around when we’re both six foot under. It’s no big deal for Gosh’s sake. Chill out. Nothing Matthew or anyone writes on here is going to cause me any consternation whatsoever so please feel free to insult me, especially Nathan Hughes, who knows exactly where I’m coming from.

If you take ‘Dalghar’ (who might have run a tad bit better hadn’t he of had a lazy one earlier)…then they roughly run up to form – I’m not so sure about the masses of improvement from any of them…
June 17, 2010 at 12:35 #301469Thanks TAPK. I’ve had time to cool off and reflect and realise that I’ve been a bit of a big girl’s blouse over matters. Sorry if I offended anyone, particularly Corm and Matt.
Yes, you’re right I probably have been more tetchy of late but how would you feel if you’ve put so much effort into growing strawberries and every time you think you’ve got a juicy prize-winning one something takes a ruddy big chunk out of it overnight, despite netting. Now I’m not suggesting it was Matthew but…..
Cheers
KenJune 17, 2010 at 13:16 #301479Ken you only need to look at whats happened to "Grasshopper",he got wiped out at Cheltenham and has turned into a "Cabbage",dont let your Strawberries get the better of you!
June 17, 2010 at 19:04 #301575Is Grasshopper still about or has he migrated?
