Weekend ratings. Relatively quiet on Saturday and I’ll be winding this thread down for a while as I’m off on holiday for 8 days next Wednesday, though will get to Ascot next Friday while staying in London.

Nosebleed time at Brighton where they hold a ‘Class 2’ Handicap, though in reality it’s a competitive Class 5 being the Final of their Summer Sprint Series. Gone are the days when horses came here after a run in a decent handicap at Goodwood.

Yes, will be at Kelso on the 17th. If you see an old b****r (65 tomorrow!) hiking round the course around 90 minutes before racing then it’s probably me!

It’s quite busy in Scotland 2nd half of September as I’ve also got Musselburgh on 13th/14th and freebies at Hamilton 21st and Perth 24th. Ascot on Friday is a bonus, Aileen likes Ascot for obvious reasons and was only too keen when I mentioned that one.

No hiking for me; knees completely shot it now. So I hope it doesn’t rain as we’ll be in our usual spot on the picnic bench by the last fence. Many years ago Mike walked the last part of the course with Nicky Henderson but he doesn’t seem to frequent the place these days.

Managed one winner from three bets at Ascot last Friday. Not worked out from the ratings but Victoria Cup winner Hickory dropped into a 0-90 Classified Stakes, classic ‘right horse, right race, right day’ at 6/1.

Ratings should be back for Saturday.
