Someone that was with her remembers the conversation word for word. She did the news media rounds one day and then Ngozi took over the following day. I don’t remember conversations word for word ( perhaps it’s my age). I am genuinely bemused by it all and any attempt to defend Lady whateverhernameis on social media results in people being accused of racism.
December 2, 2022 at 21:11 #1625424As Ian says, nobody has disputed that the account of the conversation is correct.
Calling people racist for defending her is ridiculous but that’s social media for you. However if you can’t see what the fuss is about, that is exactly why this needs to be highlighted. It’s not an isolated incident, it happens every day.
December 2, 2022 at 21:23 #1625426I didn’t say I can’t see what the fuss is about. I said that things like racist treatment of ethnic people by the police is more important.
December 2, 2022 at 21:40 #1625427Apologies for the misunderstanding moe.
The incident may seem fairly trivial in some ways but it’s just a small example of the prejudice that is present in so many people, conscious or otherwise. I imagine it must get very tiresome.
December 2, 2022 at 22:43 #1625434As previously stated, I do see both sides of this argument.
There are people in this world who just love to play the victim and squeeze every drop of vengeful juice out of any perceived attack.
But there are also congenital racists who think their position exempts them from acceptable 21st century conduct.
I’d say the class system is fundamentally everything that’s wrong with the UK.
So many negative things – elitism, privilege, anti-meritocracy, social injustice, you name it – stem from it.
And the class system stems from the Royal Family, the ultimate example of non-egalitarian Britain.
I’d imagine anyone who spent their life as a “lady in waiting” to the monarch is long odds-on to think they are superior to “commoners” and quite possibly especially superior to non-Caucasian “commoners.”
I found the transcript of the conversation repulsive, not one word of it has been denied, and age is no excuse.
That said, if I ever encountered her, I’d avoid a direct conversation with the injured party here like the plague, as I’d make her a shade of odds-on to be looking for an opportunity to take offence at every word that ever came out of anyone’s mouth.
But I don’t think she had to look too hard here.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"December 2, 2022 at 23:22 #1625439I checked the profile of the 83 year old in question on Wikipedia and noted she won the 3.38 at Newcastle.
And what a trifecta it was too!!!December 3, 2022 at 07:42 #1625458I think you have to put yourself in Ngozi Fulani’s shoes which is very difficult to do being white caucasin.
How many times has she been asked this before, even before Lady Hussey started the interrogation. Plenty of black people have come to Ngozi’s defence in the last few days stating that they themselves have had interrogation of “where they are really from.”
She is probably pig sick of people asking this question all the time and least expected it from a Palace employee, who you would think would have had the appropriate training on how to handle these situations.
December 3, 2022 at 08:17 #1625460I used to get this line of questioning quite frequently twenty or thirty years ago. Fortunately, it’s become a lot less commonplace.
December 3, 2022 at 08:24 #1625462Chezza: “So, where are you really from, Gladders? And more importantly, what sort of food do they specialise in there?”
Gladders: “Not that’s it’s any of your effing business, Chezza, I’m from the Ascot area and do I look like an effing waiter, you fat ****?”

A Palace employee who has been there for decades so you would assume has met people from all over the place in that time. Bizarre that she would still think it’s an acceptable line of questioning.
Thanks to Glad for bringing some actual first hand experience. ‘A lot less commonplace’ is not ‘disappeared’ but at least it’s going in the right direction. Still shouldn’t happen.
And some much needed humour from Ian.

December 3, 2022 at 15:01 #1625564If you look at the pictures of Ngozi Fulani and the way she was attired at Buckingham Palace I think most people would have come to the conclusion she was a visitor to our shores.
Not defending Lady Susan Hussey comments but, this could have all be avoided if Ngozi Fulani had answered a simple question.

December 3, 2022 at 18:35 #1625619Nervous though he is of challenging intellectual giants like Nigel Farage and Jim Davidson, Chezza steadfastly maintains his original position on this.
But if someone gets the racist nutter hat-trick up by posting the lovely ex-Britain First luminary Jayda Fransen’s take on this, Chezza may start to weaken.

‘Lady SH: Where are you from?’
…
‘SH: Well, you must know where you’re from, I spent time in France. Where are you from?
Me: Here, UK
SH: NO, but what Nationality are you?
Me: I am born here and am British.
…
SH: Oh I can see I am going to have a challenge getting you to say where you’re from. When did you first come here?
Me: Lady! I am a British national, my parents came here in the 50s when…’
She did answer a simple question. Not once, not twice, but THREE TIMES. That the answer was for some reason unacceptable to the questioner is not her fault.
December 3, 2022 at 19:32 #1625645I am not totally convinced.
IMHO both sides of this have not come out of it at all well.
I must admit though if somebody had touched me I wouldn’t have let it go.
December 3, 2022 at 20:09 #1625664Did anyone ask David Bowie where he was really from in “The Man Who Fell To Earth?”
Sometimes, it’s best not to say.
Sometimes, it’s best not to know.
