This from RP:
“The day will be action-packed with six fixtures, but we’ll endeavour to show every race live. We’ll also employ a second gallery to provide a fully produced, dedicated, second channel for the two Irish fixtures, available via Racing TV Extra.”
Frankly I think they’ll struggle because as the article also says:
“There are 40 races to broadcast in little more than four hours, at an average of a race roughly every six minutes, promising a fast-paced experience for the viewer.”
Given that each race is likely to be between 4 and 6 minutes long it only needs something as simple as a reshoeing like we had today on ATR to throw the whole thing out the window.
January 1, 2019 at 13:39 #1390963I’m maybe being overly critical, but it seems a bit of a mess so far.

January 1, 2019 at 14:00 #1390975”a fast paced experience…”, do publications like the RP not question marketing BS like this before publishing it ? I know the answer is no but its worth saying nonetheless
January 1, 2019 at 17:06 #1390990I agree with that comment rollo, pure BS
I watched the action via my app today, but although the split screen appeared to work initially, it became very temperamental as the day went on. Jury’s out for me.
January 1, 2019 at 17:52 #1391004I don’t believe it’s fair to make any serious judgement based on today. It is the second busiest day of the racing calendar. There aren’t going to be many other days when Racing TV will be showing 6 afternoon jumps meetings
January 2, 2019 at 10:16 #13910782 out of 10 so far- and that’s being generous.
Need to up their game, whilst it’s not fair to make any serious judgement on yesterday TWM, it was a poor show + it’s not like it came as a surprise to them that there was a lot of racing.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!January 2, 2019 at 12:06 #1391095I missed the chance to watch yesterday, as I was working, so not in a place to comment, as just caught the odd race on my phone.
One minor gripe this morning though. I missed the 1435 at Cheltenham, so watched it via the app this morning. It was split screen at the start of the race yesterday, and when you watch it via replays today…….it’s still split screen. Would it be so difficult to put the race on full screen on the replay section of the app??
Hopefully they can rectify this, as there will obviously be many days this year, where the split screen will be in use.
January 2, 2019 at 20:02 #1391128Will be interesting to keep track on the the level of exchange trading on Irish racing over the next cpl of months. In general, the betting volumes appear to be quite a bit below the corresponding trade vols seen when going up against the UK based meetings, including, say, last weeks Wolverhampton AW card which was also shown on ATR.
The lack of accessible race replays prior to 01 Jan ’18 is quite a regressive step to begin on and something which should have been ironed out prior to the switch by HRIJanuary 12, 2019 at 14:39 #1392308This is just dreadful. Richest race in UK and Ireland was the Dan Moore at Fairyhouse today, one of the richest and top 2 mile Chase’s on the National Hunt Calender. Bigger first prize than the Grand Annual Chase at Cheltenham and the Racing TV didn’t preview the race, or get any expert comments, or analyse the form, or even show a replay of the finish. No interviews and apparently no report from the course. It’s absolutely scandalous and Irish racing is going to suffer an awful lot if this type of disinterest in Irish racing continues
January 12, 2019 at 15:19 #1392315
@thewexfordman are you really surprised? Rtv have no interest in Irish Racing just getting one over on Sky, they have the rights for 4 years they can do as they wish, they won’t really take much interest until 2023 when the rights come back for renewal and suddenly Irish racing will conveniently take a new meaning to them.January 12, 2019 at 15:28 #1392316Another example just now. Split screen for the end of the Fairyhouse race so we could see them start at Wetherby, but they didn’t split screen Kempton so we could see them start at Fairyhouse.
So we missed the start at Fairyhouse, and had to watch the finish on split screen
January 12, 2019 at 17:24 #1392326I’m sure they said they planned to have a reporter at every Irish meeting???
January 12, 2019 at 18:18 #1392333Not sure all the RTV courses have got the memo (assuming one has been sent) about delaying the start of races for another one to finish – I have seen it on RUK with a commentator saying we are just waiting for an Irish race to finish plenty of times.
That should be happening more often now that these meeting are all on one channel especially given that some of the time the horses are being told to take another turn for no reason after the off time has passed – surely no hardship to wait a minute or so if the other meeting’s race is in the final stages.
Lack of communication for the Wetherby race to start whilst Fairyhouse was just ending – hopefully just teething problems to be ironed out. Hopefully when next seasons race times are announced (both Uk & Ireland) they maybe be able to stagger the start times better, they should be able to have 10mins between all races on most days surely.
January 12, 2019 at 18:24 #1392334I used to bet regularly on Irish racing, but I won’t bet on something I can’t watch
