Some concern RTV will aim to broadcast a “Netflix” style service with races possibly shunted to the internet or other devices to keep the tv side from getting over subscribed.
December 3, 2018 at 20:31 #1387955I hope they send plenty new cameras to Irish fixtures. Current coverage more suited to points
December 3, 2018 at 20:33 #1387956According to Lee Mottershead today John Francome has turned down Sky Sports Racing and Alex Hammond will lead the Sky Sports Racing Team
In my Monday @RacingPost column (£), thoughts on Racing TV launch inc thumbs up from Davy Russell, plus news ahead of Wednesday Sky Sports Racing unveil – Alex Hammond leads team, Tylicki signs up and French presenters named but Stanley and Francome say nohttps://t.co/CONPPDuKZk

December 3, 2018 at 21:30 #1387961Some good points by the Andrew guy on that thread.
Virgin Media subscribers are clearly the bottom of pile. The subscription is already ridiculous compared to other sports and will inevitably rise. It might be the Sport Of Kings but you shouldn’t need a king’s ransom to pay for it.
They don’t need five Irish presenters, particularly those who are unlikely to criticise anything within the sport.
There are going to plenty of occasions when this will turn into a mess and the viewer will inevitably suffer the consequences.
I hope sooner rather than later that this current situation turns around and we get a more even split and few less smug faces at RUK.
December 4, 2018 at 09:52 #1387980Stilvi, i am no tv production expert but what’s wrong with 5 Irish presenters- Ruby will hardly present and Kate Harrington won’t be doing it daily either…..
One thing we can’t moan about is the cost of RUK/RTV- we had the chance to jump on the BlackFriday £10 deal (not sure about Virgin viewers) which is a good deal at a very affordable price considering Irish racing will be on there.
There are worries of course about how they will manage all this racing, which is where the main scrutiny will lie.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!December 4, 2018 at 10:05 #1387981So for a channel that claims to put all the profits back into racing and the racecourses hiring 5 irish presenters is good then is it?
You do not need 5 presenters, racing uk has always over subscribed itself on its presenters last week there were four presenters in the studio covering a Kempton meeting, so all profits do not go back to racing they go into the overpaid pundits pockets.
You will have to pay for the £10 deal next year when the subscription shoots up either by more adverts (and it would annoy me to subscribe to Ruk to watch Coral and SkyBet inbetween races like they do now) or a higher fee.
December 4, 2018 at 10:46 #1387982Gary O’Brien- will be used a lot
Donn Mclean- Will be used a lot
Kevin O’Ryan- used a fair bit probably when one of above isn’t
Harrington- i would say less than 3 above
Ruby- already RUK, and will be used less as rides. How is this too many? ATR probably use the same amount? They won’t have all 5 on course or at the studio every meeting.
£10 deal is a £10 deal whatever way you want to paint it, how do you know there are going to be more adverts? The deal has been going for some time + that hasn’t changed the adverts?
I will await the offer again next or phone up and say i wish to cancel + like this year they will offer me another cheaper deal to stay….
I like ATR and sad to see it lose Irish Racing, but it’s happened move on.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!December 4, 2018 at 12:39 #1387991Five is clearly too many when two or three would suffice. ATR managed with two and almost certainly would have had more dedicated time.
Virgin Media customers have always treated as I said the bottom of the pile. Those offers will not be available.
The mere fact that you are chasing offers (and they are offering them) would seem to indicate that the basic charge is (much) too expensive.
December 4, 2018 at 13:25 #1387998ATR had two?
Gary O’Brien, Kevin O’Ryan, Kevin Blake have been 3 staples, whilst Chapman and i am sure others have covered it too.
As i have already said, Ruby and Kate are hardly going to be doing it daily, so its more like 3..
I am not chasing offers…i just know the offers there and i would be daft not to take it?

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!December 5, 2018 at 18:23 #1388114Yes, ATR essentially had two presenters, O’Brien and O’Ryan. Chapman made a few trips over but Blake never presented on his own and they could easily have managed without either of them.
December 6, 2018 at 09:58 #1388164Tbf Gary O’Brien was signed before the deal was announced earlier in the year.
He will be the lead anchor, with Kevin O’Ryan doing the secondary meetings as is currently on ATR. Donn McClean an analyst and Kate Harrington used as the Sally Grassick role on ITV.
December 6, 2018 at 11:15 #1388174And Walsh on a nice little earner for not doing too much at all?
December 6, 2018 at 11:24 #1388175Walsh has been in the job before they got Irish racing- surely, it would make no sense to remove him now they’ve got Irish Racing?
He said he’s contracted to 15 days, not sure what exactly they are but nothing changes from before, other than he will be able to work more from Ireland.
So really, scrap Ruby from your “5 presenters” you are giving off about.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!December 23, 2018 at 13:25 #1390084Racingpost have just emailed members to say the archive races from this year backwards will be unavailable due to rights issues, until sorted.
Does anyone know who will have the previous replays etc? Skysports or ruk?

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!December 24, 2018 at 12:58 #1390152I’d presume ATR will have the rights until 31/12/18 and then RTV going forward. You should be able to get the whole lot on Sporting Life, Jack.
December 25, 2018 at 17:18 #1390203It looks from the schedule that Rtv will attempt to broadcast all 6 jumps meetings on one channel on New Year’s Day.
December 31, 2018 at 19:49 #1390932This should be interesting, and I could go either way on how I think it will all pan out.
Six meetings shouldn’t provide too many teething problems for them on Day 1, but as well documented already on here, it will be the big Saturdays where they really will get tested.
I could also go either way on this being good for Irish Racing, but I do have my doubts. I hope I’m wrong on that.
