What’s with the unusual Race times at both Wetherby and Musselburgh on Saturday 12:57, 1:03, 1:31, 1:38 etc?
January 31, 2020 at 13:32 #1481418Ruby Walsh’s idea to avoid clashes and split screens. Other countries already do it.
January 31, 2020 at 13:48 #1481420Cheers GaG. Wondered if it was something to do with that. I have noticed the ITV races have still got a “normal” start time. Obviously there could still be clashes if unforeseen circumstances arise. It does make sense although not a fan that TV seems to dictate everything.
February 1, 2020 at 15:33 #1481611Oh dear even Alex Hammond laughing at the joke race times today
Musselburgh 3.15 4m finished at 3.25
3.23 at Wetherby goes off at 3.26
Lingfield have to wait for Wetherby to finish and end up off at 3.32.
February 1, 2020 at 23:41 #1481682To be fair though Steve there were very few split screens today so it seemed to work.
February 2, 2020 at 09:10 #1481689@patriot1 it didn’t work Musselburgh were off late most of the afternoon, having an 8 min gap between a 4m race was stupid.
There were few split screens because nothing major happened but Lingfield earlier in afternoon went off before Wetherby had finished and it was badly planned.
Though I suspect the BHA will think like you and it went wonderfully when it in some respects made things worse.
Also the fact that itv clearly were not involved and all races shown on itv had to be on a 5 min scale.
February 2, 2020 at 12:59 #1481718How do you avoid something major happening Steve?
Do you have any solution to this issue without bashing RTV?
February 2, 2020 at 16:52 #1481763Do not schedule a race 8 minutes after the previous one when it’s 4 miles.
Scheduled flat/AW races against jumps then make the flat race appropriate ie a 5f takes 1 min to run so make the next race 4 mins after.
Time the race accordingly to the length of the race.
Maybe on a busy Saturday have a gap around 3.00 so if any previous races have gone off late there is a gap to catch up.
You cannot not don’t rtv bash, RMG chose to bid for racecourses it could not cope with and you have the stupid situation of a flat fixture on one channel and 4 or 5 jumps on the other.
Racecourses should be in contact with each other then if a race is delayed the other meetings are aware of it and can make appropriate changes.
