Agreed regarding Mr. De Bromhead – but how on earth could the stewards have reversed? The winner won well enough in the end, its not a short head we are talking about.
March 14, 2012 at 15:56 #396639I think there’ll be an enquirey in to what happened, doesn’t have to be a stewards enquirey.
Man with flag could have been a little further out on to the course.
They moved the boards because there was an injured jockey and photographer on the inner.
Might need more boards in future, but I suppose as far as stewards are concerned, jockeys should know the rules.

I don’t think anyone’s said the result should be reversed – it’s the stewards race-actions and post-race attitude that i’m feeling aggrieved about.
March 14, 2012 at 15:59 #396643The front two went head to head – FR won 1.25L going away unless my eyes decieve me. Bit unsatisfactory, but the right horse won.
March 14, 2012 at 16:00 #396644What does the chequered flag mean officially? Is it ‘bypass fence’ or is it just ‘hazzard’?
Bypass.
Value Is EverythingMarch 14, 2012 at 16:04 #396650Ah right but i guess they didnt see it anyway.
Simon did a good commentating job he spotted a cock up long before the home straight.

March 14, 2012 at 17:40 #396676Not sure he wove won but the sizing europe cock up cost cost me a Rock on Ruby, Bobs worth, SE treble. Ouch

.What possible advantage is gained by moving all the boards to the inner ? That’s a casual decision made on scene by someone.
Racing doesn’t need this
Also need to look at proximity of crowds to fences.
March 14, 2012 at 18:03 #396689"Hi, I’m Finians Rainbow, and I couldn’t even beat Somersby – I repeat, couldn’t even effing beat Somersby – until I tried Equizoom! The non-BHA endorsed supplement that gives you real zip!" <—Champion Chase winner Finians Rainbow
"Shut Up Finny!" <—Champion Chase winning trainer Nicky Henderson*
Jingle: "If you’ve got a long run-in coz they’ve dolled off the last, Equizoom makes your horse run fast."
*Nicky Henderson is a sportsman and a gentleman, and would never even consider giving a horse nutritious, tasty, and banned by the BHA Equizoom, even if it existed, which it doesn’t.
BlueSky @pghenn.bsky.social
So don't run, just like the others always do

I’m not sure any horse owned by Michael Buckley would talk like that so I must presume it is a spoof.
March 14, 2012 at 18:26 #396703Unless it’s no longer ex-jock Richard Linley, they’ve spelled his name wrong in the press release – here’s a quote from it:
Additionally the person waving the flag was blowing a whistle alerting jockeys to bypass.
One man blowing a wee whistle versus 50,000 voices yelling encouragement to two strongly fancied horses.
Nonsense from the BHA who should apologise for a cock-up
March 14, 2012 at 19:08 #396715Can not believe I got 9/1 back in January!!
Kaaaaa
BOOOM!
March 14, 2012 at 19:42 #396729A very fitting race for me.
A horse trained by a lying cheat, owned by a snot-nosed toff, decided by farcical stewarding in a sport run by lords of the realm who are all in each other’s pockets.
I’m off. Bye.
In other words – i’ve done my bones and am looking for excuses.
March 14, 2012 at 20:48 #396752I have to be on finians rainbow each way for this.
For me i couldn’t have the 11 year old Zeb.
Sizing is the one to beat and have him to a fair tune already.
The only viable alternative is Finians so 11-2 is a nice each way bet to nothing. His jumping was sweet last time out. He put distance between himself and the contenders ins the final turn in the vc. Then repelled and broke al ferofs challenge and kept running to the line. He won the 2 mile contest. Then the extra furlong kicked in and he bravely runs to the line only to get picked up by a horse who clearly has his best efforts at that course and ran a hot master minded close last year also who also benefits from larger stamina reserves.
It was a sound effort, Finians should get a nice place effort and if the 4-5 week break isn’t enough for sizing europe, who put his all into that last race the finians could be the one to capitalise.
Impressive call, Sketti.
Agreed it could have been clearer that the last fence was a no-go, but the best horse definitely won. End of.
Zip
March 14, 2012 at 21:39 #396765Don’t understand the hoopla, Finians would have still won with the last fence involved.
March 14, 2012 at 21:56 #396778Henry De Bromhead took the incident with incredible good grace. I think SE would have won well if they had jumped the last but thats racing and FR won fair and square. That still doesn’t excuse the lunacy of racing still being run by a bunch of unaccountable old duffers. Losing revenue hand over fist and we get that comedy of errors. Didn’t have a bet in the race but hate to see the best race of the season end in a heap like that.
