Nothing went right for SE today, and everything fell right for Barry. SE by far the better jumper and I feel he would have been hard to pass having pinged the last.
Watch the second last – if anything Finians outjumps SE.
It was Lynch who made the decision not to jump, and steered his mount to the right. So Geraghty has to react, so he’s behind as they pass the last but finishes with a clear lead.
Not only that, you would have thought the omitted fence would favour Sizing Europe who was by far the faster/better hurdler of the two.
I couldn’t see Sizing Europe losing but he did and he took a fair dunt in the ribs from Sizing Europe at the fence. Mind you Barry wasn’t much caring is Sizing Europe was going to have to go round about him at the time so you can hardly blame Lynch or making sure he didn’t have to do that.
March 22, 2012 at 12:08 #398038It was a pity that final fence fiasco marred what was a great finish. If Barry Gerathy had been on the inside perhaps he would have jumped the fence but then again maybe he din’t see the flag at first with Sizing Europe in the way.
If they had jumped the last it may have been a different story but we’ll never know.
Big Zeb ran a good race but at this stage just doesn’t look the horse he once was. He was a long way clear of Gauvain and Realt Dubh but a year or two ago he would have been mixing it with the front two. Retirement may beckon after a final outing at his beloved Punchestown.
Realt Dubh as expected found this too hot first time out. I would have ran him in the Ryanair but judging on this performance he wouldn’t have finished much closer in that. Hopefully he can come on from this because he still has potential to be high class. Let’s not forget he split Finians Rainbow and Medermit in last year’s Arkle.
