Can’t see past Goldikova. Although, if Rip kicks for home a long way out he could have Goldikova and Paco in all sorts of trouble.

RH – I said elsewhere that last year ‘Paco’ started his season earlier by going to Dubai (being prepped, flying etc)

It might be worth remembering that it was his sixth race (It was only ‘RVW’ 4th) when he met ‘Rip’ last time ’round…

he should be a lot fresher for this encounter!
Therefore no excuses should be offered for his run this time!

‘RIP’ – though should he fail…will be seen as having been in need of a run!

Who would people say has shown the best form over a straight track?! :o

I actually find myself leaning towards Paco Boy for this.

He will have to improve to beat Goldikova and Rip Van Winkle, but the latter is having his first run and I don’t think he will be at his best on the straight Ascot course.

Goldikova is the one to beat, but Paco Boy thrives over a straight mile and the race could be set up for him, with Cat Junior the only notable pacesetter in the field.

It could very well be a different story in the Sussex and QEII, but with everything looking to favour Paco Boy ie trip, ground, I will side with the Richard Hannon horse on this occasion.

Zacinto is an interesting ew alternative, but can you have complete faith in a horse who has finished last on his previous two visits to the racecourse?

Trainer doesn’t want to go for this race as the horse was jarred up in it last season which brought a premature end to its campaign.

Mind you, trainer also didn’t want to go to Dubai with it either but got overruled by the owner who seemed to fancy the all expenses paid jolly although the trip proved fruitless for the horse (fortunately with no long term effects)

Owner is keen on Breeders Cup and trainer not- further battle of wills in prospect!

I do not see why a stiff straight mile will not suit Rip Van Winkle seeing as he gets 10 furlongs. Also he is a pacesetter as well – there will be plenty of pace in this.

^^You don’t consider Newmarket a stiff, straight mile? Could only finish seventh in the Dewhurst and fourth in the Guineas.

Will Aidan let him blaze a trail on his seasonal debut?

Hard to know Bos, I would have liked to see Goldikova’s pacemaker entered, but meybe she’ll cut out the pace herself. Rip could drop in behind, with Paco Boy held up.

Goldikova leads them into the final 3 furlongs, Peslier beginning to wind her up. Rip comes off the bridle behind her, lack of match practess getting the better of him. Paco Boy cruises up to within a length of Goldikova at the 2f pole. Peslier hasn’t really gone for her yet, though, and when he says "GO!!" Paco Boy cracks. Goldikova extends to a 2 length victory from the staying on Rip Van Winkle, who looks for all the world like he’ll come on a tonne for the run. Aidan O’Brien is "delighted" afterwards. Paco Boy finishes a further half length bck in 3rd!

    Simple, really :D

You wanted stats?! – Following 4’s in this does good!

Of the last 25 winners, 20 were four-year-olds.
    The other five were five-year-olds.

    If that’s wrong – it’s late!

Jeez – I’m starting to sound like ‘Big Mac’ – soz!

Not a massive fan of the flat, but i do tend to watch the big races, and Paco Boy is a favourite of mine, so i would like to see him win on Tuesday.

Looks to be a fascinating race!

    Whatever race

    Rip Van Winkle

runs in,he wins! Of course there is the "Are Aidans horses really firing?" issue to contend with.In my opinion Royal Ascot is a big enough meeting for Rip Van to be tuned to the minute,if he is then 3/1 for the Queen Anne is xmas!

Well well 24hrs before the race Aidan releases a bulletin suggesting Rip Van Winkle will need the run and that he could have done with a prep to put him spot on!!!!!!!!! Well why didn"t he get one then? Its a Group 1 race and this looks like being Rip Vans pipeopener for the Eclipse! Those of us who put our faith in a trainer to prepare one for a big race first time out have had our pants down! I still think he"s the best horse in the race and wont need to be 100% fir to win,he"s got tooooo much speed for these! 8)

I would be shocked if ‘Rip’ can win 1st time out against match fit & multiple Group 1 winners Paco Boy & Goldikova.

Place lay by Big Bucks? I could not argue with that.

It is likely that 1m2f will prove his optimum trip this season and if he wins tomorrow then he must be an absolute machine!

Dunno about a place lay. The others are way off the top three formwise. I’ve used him as cover on the 5/2 I have on Goldikova.
