Honestly, Fist, if Getaway finishes in front of Sea the Stars I will feel wretched. I was determined not to have a bet in the race and was only tempted by the price, and the fact that I was going to the bookies anyway! It’s just that it’s a wierd race for English runners. Sorry to lapse into sickly sentimentality but I’m hoping Urban Sea is looking down on her boy and willing him home….
Getaway looks a bit overpriced alright although there is some suspicion that he wont like this many runners in a field. Im pretty certain Fame and Glory is the one and although Im convinced the favourite is the best horse, the simple fact is that he shouldnt really be able to stay in form and compete continually at this level. This should be one race too many.

October 4, 2009 at 17:09 #251723Whatever the result, I’m not fussed and neither should the bloodstock industry.
A proven champion with the stallion’s pedigree and looks to match does not need the Arc to cement his place in racing legend. And with breeders focusing more on 1m2f ability year after year, they won’t rethink his market value after today.
It will bring much joy if he does win today, but I’m not going to feel any darker if he loses.
October 4, 2009 at 17:10 #251724I’m quite interested in the betting without Sea The Stars market. If STS wins, some of these will try and go with him at some point and could be caught late on by fast finishers. I’d say Fame and Glory will try and exploit STS stamina whereas Conduit and Youmzain are far more likely to come from further back. As a result I am tempted by those two in the market without STS at 4-1 (Conduit) and 6-1 (Youmzain).
October 4, 2009 at 17:29 #251731I have my bets on STS. I hope he wins and makes history. I wish I could be in Paris at the moment. I might give it a try next year. It would be great to visit the racetrack there on such an occasion as this is. There might be a hype around STS, but he has my bet. I keep my fingers crossed.
October 4, 2009 at 17:44 #251735Beheshtam is worth a cheeky punt at a big price. Aga Khan is doing superbly well. 74/1 taken. It’s not a horse without potential.
Edit: bet was placed just before the opera so i imagine people will be grabbing the high prices, but worth a small punt.
October 4, 2009 at 18:00 #251740Just heard Willie Carson talking about Sea The Stars being the best horse ever. No doubt music to the ears of those on here who have talked the horse up as if they themselves had somehow found a diamond in the street. How highly you rank Sea The Stars is purely a matter of opinion. There is no right or wrong. The only fact is that he is one of the most versatile Group 1 horses of all time. Just looking at Arc winners, win or lose today, in terms of pure ability I would have him behind the likes of Ribot, Sea Bird, Vaguely Noble, Mill Reef, Alleged, Dancing Brave and possibly several others.
October 4, 2009 at 18:08 #251741Wait…I will make the same statement I did before the Irish Champion, just for luck:
"I can’t help feeling this is going to be something of an anti-climax."
A financial interest in Fame And Glory (@12/1 ew), but c’mon Sea The Stars.
October 4, 2009 at 18:18 #251742Good luck to Sean Levey today – who, according my local tote website, will be riding both Set Sail and Youmzain.
A spectacle in itself.

October 4, 2009 at 18:31 #251747What a horse! A troubled passage and he still destroyed them! And a word for Youmzain…2nd 3 years in a row is incredible!

To win like that, having raced freely and lost position mid-race, is simply astonishing.
October 4, 2009 at 18:33 #251749What an amazing victory. I was a bit worried at first, but I didn’t need to worry. Sea the Stars was just wonderful. I have no words to describe this wonderful victory.
October 4, 2009 at 18:35 #251750Very similar run to Zarkava last year…poetry
October 4, 2009 at 18:37 #251751On a line through Youmzain and given that he was hit 3 times, Zarkava would have murdered him
