He beat a 175 rated horse 26 lengths and a 163 rated horse by 54 lengths while never coming off the bridle. That OR of 180+ is an absolute must and there can be no discussion about the number one on the planet.

No you don’t HDLG. You just can’t stand Gaelic Warrior.

He’s a class above Il Etait Temps. Champion Chasers are only in the Champion Chase because they don’t stay 3M2f and that’s a fact.

A horse who can win the top 3 mile races as easily as Gaelic Warrior has done is the star of the sport.

Townend lost his whip on the run in at Kempton and he was still only beaten a short head and he pulled far too hard with Patrick at the DRF and still finished 2nd, so maybe they will be looking at unfinished business next season as you would imagine he will take the same route again next season.

”GM Gold cups break horses , just look at the stats”

It doesn’t break the true champions like Best Mate, Kauto and Galopin.

Willie just needs to give Gaelic a slightly easier campaign before the Gold Cup next season and he’ll back it up. One less run beforehand should be enough.

He was a bit too sore on Galopin imo with the 5 tough Grade 1s every season. He shortened his career with that campaigning imo but the horse delivered and won an absolute fortune. He won’t be winning G1s at almost 12yr old like Kauto due to that though.

I was meaning the Cromwell horse , he didn’t , he has a chance of retaining it as his likely biggest rival is another Mullins horse

Interestingly, GW and IET each hold a victory over each other in their novice chase season, GW won over 2m3f by 5L whilst IET got his revenge when they raced over 2m winning by 2L.

Think we need a decider but I ampretty sure connections (and more likely Willie) will keep them seperated as IET is most likely to go same route as this season (i.e. Clonmel Oil Chase and then Tingle Creek) whilst GW will likely go John Durkan and then either the King George or the Savills.

GM champion chasers are horses that can jump a fence at a speed , are you saying Altior/Sprinter Sacre/Viking Flagship weren’t top class horses , if thats your argument then staying hurdlers are better than champion hurdlers , are you saying for instance that Teahupoo is better than the hill …

    “Gold Cups break horses”

They do but plenty have won it more than once in recent years.
Gaelic Warrior has won the last two races on the bridle, looks like the Gold Cup has made him

LOL A horse you didn’t think would get the Cheltenham hill got up it wearing a superman cape.
No, Gold Cup winning horse bar Kauto Star would match him for pace this Century.

Obviously they are top class horses but if they stayed 3 miles, they’d be in Gold Cups. Kauto Star could’ve won multiple Queen Mothers and Tingle Creeks, why did Nicholls prefer the Gold Cup and King George.

One Man could’ve dominated the 2m division for years but instead Hales dreamed of the Gold Cup.

The Gold Cup is the Blue Ribband and while the Champion Hurdle and Queen Mother are great races also, they still don’t come close to the Gold Cup.

The stayers hurdle is just a race for horses who can’t jump a fence and don’t have the speed for 2 miles. Do you think Big Bucks would’ve been sent back hurdling if he could jump a fence, not a chance.

“Gaelic Warrior and Fact To File were meeting for the third time this season, having first clashed in the John Durkan at this track before Fact To File got his revenge in the Irish Gold Cup.”

Why do I keep reading this, its almost as if FTF was left at home on Boxing day
People get paid to write these

Have to agree with GM; 3-mile chasing is more competitive, prestigious and lucrative than the 2-mile version, which even ranks lower than 2-mile hurdling. 3-mile hurdling is division 4.

GM I could turn the argument around and say 3 milers are horses to slow to jump a fence at pace … Gaelics had a great year but I don’t put him on the top step of chasers , would prime Kauto , Denman , Dessie , Best Mate get beat by FTF at 3 miles , no I don’t think so , he has an excellent chance of backing up next season but this is sadly more a statement of the division just now , we also don’t look to have a vintage crop of novices
