I’d love to see Nicanor run well today. I’ve had a little nibble on him, and a small double with Tatenan.
April 30, 2009 at 15:38 #224542Tatenen took advantage of a healthy wfa concession early in the season, but has since been found out. I couldn’t fancy him.
He gets the 7lb again today though which could be enough in a slog.

Well I am gobsmacked! I was wondering if I would get evens about Ainama who is surely in a different calls to this lot?
There is no doubt he lacks toe when it comes to racing againstthe top novices but he stays on really well, travells well and likes this ground.
I’v ended up backing him EW at 4/1 which is almost a bet to nothing as far as I’m concerned.
Garde Champetre was given a shocking ride in the Irish Grand National. Where as New Story ran a cracker. However New Story is as one paced a horse as you could ever hope to find and Garde Champetre looks to have a very easy task but Drombeag reminds me of a surprise package waiting to open, although worse of at the weights he may end up being a very big danger. I’m doing a RFC on the two as I am not prepared to go all out on Garde Champetre with Drombeag in the race.
The minute I saw Fiveforthree in this I fancied himand now Nickyshorse has gone he looks a good thing if he gets the trip. Ruby rides him Mullins trains him, you can get almost 2/1 what more could you want?
I looked at the race again and I could be very wrong but I think this race could turn into a real slogging match.
When it comes to slog there can’t be many horses tougher than old Brave Inca. He was never my idea of a great Champion Hurdle winner but he is tough and travels well in most of his races. Apart from running as expected in the Champion Hurdle hehas run 3 ecxellent races this season winning one of them. Not the gratest race in the world but it does confirm there is still plenty pertrol in the tank. I have backed him for a healthy sum ew at 14/1 as my main bet as I am sure he will still be going when many of these have cried enough. I also backed Fiveforthree so I come out about even if he wins and Brave Inca is unplaced.
Everytime I see an unbeliveable price like 7/4 Forpaddydeplasterer I wonder if the bookies know something I don’t. I can only put it down to the string of seconds he had before Cheltenham but this Tatenan is ordinary.
Forpaddydeplasterer in a canter.
April 30, 2009 at 16:21 #224549Just going back to Dunguib it will be interesting to see if Brian O’Connell keeps the ride. I hope he does.
April 30, 2009 at 16:30 #224552I presume he will keep the ride for the moment while the horse is winning and winning well.
However, if he loses a couple of hurdle races, especially if any jumping mistakes are made at the business end of the races, owners start to get a bit jittery and the press start talking and then Philip Fenton’s phone will be off the hook with agents ringing him.
Hope I’m wrong though.

I’m not so sure about Ainama. It would look that he should be able to beat this lot but I have my reservations about him particularly on this ground. I know he has won on soft before but I think he is better on better ground. The one I like is Noble Prince EW who was a decent flat horse for Andre Fabre and who came good in style LTO upped to 20F. At around 16/1 he will do for me.

Jim Dreaper said he could win the Arc if it was run on heavy ground

As he has forgotten more about horses than I will ever learn I must put my hand up and say he must be some tool for JD to say that.
If he’s going to be running in Ireland overthe jumps I’d have David Russel on him in a flash not an Amatuer
April 30, 2009 at 17:26 #224569It’s a fairly quiet meeting given that I stick to the 0-130 and better handicaps.
I couldn’t find much in the 4.20 though I’ve taken a chance at 36 with Callow Lake. Form is sound enough to get involved here. There may be a question mark over the going, though that’s covered in the odds anyway and i’m willing to go against the grain.
Three at fancy odds agaisnt the field in the 6.05, the 3m handicap hurdle, are Bally View(55), Tumbling Dice(50) and Piano Star(60). Piano Star is the one that catches my eye, running a decent race over 2m 4f on returning to hurdling last tmie, shouldn’t have any problems with the going and the step up in trip will do no harm. Bally View has solid staying form, has no problem with the distance and is lightly enough raced to suggst there may be a little more to come, With Tumbling Dice, he appears on a good mark and loves the ground, though the distance is the iffy bit. I’m putting my trust in his trainer’s placing ability.
April 30, 2009 at 17:27 #224570First – Uncle Tom Cobley 80/1 win 6/1 place
Last – Paddyplasterer 7/4 w
God luck folks.
April 30, 2009 at 17:45 #224574My heart wants to see a huge race from either Brave Inca or Nicanor…..

Blueberry Boy
(4.20) interests me on some of his old soft-ground chase form, but I think I’ll limit myself to
Powerstation
(5.30) and
Tatenen
(6.40).
I have to agree with Grass’ in that the 11/2 available about Powerstation is incredibly generous, especially with conditions seemingly in his favour. I can’t see, on his Aintree run at least, Fiveforthree staying the trip sufficiently well on soft ground.

Terrible smell of burnt fingers around here Aaronizneez. I hope the fire goes out before the end of the day
April 30, 2009 at 19:55 #224611I think I have to bet Garde Champetre at 15/8, I hate taking shortish prices but I didn’t think he’d be bigger than 6/4. I can’t see any real reason he should be that big

I am off to the beach tomorrrow so won’t be around for a couple if days. HURRAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so I am having a punt before I go.
Rabobank Champion Hurdle
After winning as she liked at Cheltenham Quevega has been installed as 9/4 fav for this.
I find that quite surprising because as good as she is Puchestown isn’t Cheltenham, this isn’t 2m4f and Punjabi and Co are a league above those she beat in the mares race. That’s just too many negatives for me and I’ll be surprised ifhe bubbles isn’t well and truly burst in this company.
Muirhead is a horse who I think will improve next season and could actually shake them all up today. He always gave me the impression he wasn’t fully wound up in his pre CH races and although he has a fair bit of ground to make upon Punjabi in this ground thing could swing in his favour.
There is also word going around that the horse has improved immensly since the CH which swings me even more his wayPunjabi just keeps doing it and nothing seems to be too much to ask. Flat Jumps soft good heavy he seems as equally good no matter what. He should be fav and at 11/4 it must be very tempting for anyone.
Solwhit was very impressive last time out and has great battling qualities. He wont be beat for waant of trying but this is a his toughest task to date and he mayfind some of these more than he can handle.
Sizing Europe was off for some time and whe he returned he looked all over the winner until blowing up in heavy ground and handing the race to Hardy Eustace. This is a different ball game and if he is fit and well anything could happen. You simply can’t feel totally confident when he’s in a race incase he bounces back to his best and you can’t back him without knowing if he is or not. If he won this doing handstands it wouldn’t surprise me one little bit.
I’m taking the risk that Muirhead has improved and backing him EW instead of getting stuck into something that could be easily beaten in what looks a very competitive race. More interested in watching than betting but I guess I’ll have to put up with Bikini clad girls on the beach instead

The sporting life are forecasting Michael D at 4/5 but the bookies are not pricing him up. To think I used to be able to get their prices
I think they should consider sacking the guy that’s doing them and employing Ginger/Mark………horse will be 1/3 if were lucky but it will be greatto see him do his stuff again. This is a future Champion if ever there was one.Have a good day all
