From what I heard on ATR, Dunguib has schooled really well and is aimed at the Supreme Novices next year. Glad Roll Along got 4th today..Schindlers Hunt ran well; thought trainer said the ground wouldn’t suit. Short prices for Notre Pere for next years Gold Cup; as trainer said there was no way that he would have ran him on the ground this year [wish I’d known that when I backed him ante post] can’t see ground next year being any different.

In the twenty years I have been following racing, I cant honestly think Ive ever seen a better bumper horse than this Dunguib. I suppose he is bred to be a chaser but he also bred not to be this good so he may simply be a freak and perhaps this will be pinnacle.

Wow Harry that’s a helluva staetment to make.
What about Montelado who won the Suprme Novice doing handstands the following year. Dato Star who turned out to be a very good hurdler.
He will have to go some to achieve what they did alone.
Without doubt Florida Peral is the best ever winner of the bumper to date. By memory he won at least 2 Hennesy’s and finished runner up to Looks Like Trouble in the Gold Cup. He must have won at least a dozen good chases if not more. He was massivelly impressive and looked alot more of a racehorse than this horse who he would have eaten alive in the Bumper IMO
April 29, 2009 at 23:51 #224410Easy peasy Graeme now for an AP Ruby double tomorrow

I haven’t even had a proper look at the card yet.Are you going back in large ?
It takes a brave man to go againt Powerstation and Fair Along if that’s the plan !
April 29, 2009 at 23:56 #224414Dunguib is definitely the best I’ve seen since Montelado anyway. Remember that Montelado couldn’t achieve the bumper double that Dunguib has just achieved. I think it was Meade’s Tiananmen Square who turned around Cheltenham form with Pat Flynn’s horse at Punchestown.
IF
Dunguib takes to jumping (and that’s a big if) he’ll go to the top. A small concern I’d have is that Philip Fenton has had decent young horses in the past like Shirley Casper, Woodbine Willie and Vic Venturi and none of them really went on but this fellow looks a different class to horses of that calibre.
The owners have apparently refused offers of over €1,000,000 for him so I hope for their sake that he can develop into a superstar.
April 29, 2009 at 23:59 #224416Lot of comments about the ride given to Crossdresser; very tenderly ridden, interesting to see how it runs next time.
April 30, 2009 at 00:00 #224417I think Harry was just referring to his ability in bumpers. As far as I can remember Cousin Vinny got the highest ever official rating last year and Dunguib looks a class above him. I doubt that Florida Pearl would have got him off the bridle.
Superb round of jumping from Notre Pere. I would expect him to target the two Nationals next season as I doubt he would ever be competitive on decent ground in a Gold Cup.
April 30, 2009 at 00:59 #224438Hello all, new to this forum and this is my first post but please bare with me as I’m looking to learn.
Can anyone offer their opinions on Tatanen and his chances in the Novice Chase tomorrow?
I am somewhat drawn by how highly Nicholls thinks of this horse and feel its only a matter of time before he comes good
April 30, 2009 at 01:28 #224449Tatenen took advantage of a healthy wfa concession early in the season, but has since been found out. I couldn’t fancy him.
One bet stands out for me tomorrow: Powerstation at 11/2.
Fiveforthree is way too short at around 11/8, as far as I’m concerned – he’s not a guaranteed stayer over 3m on this kind of ground.

Yes Stilvi, I was certainly only referring to his bumper form. I was really taken with him when he won his second bumper. I backed him for cheltenham on the basis that he was bred to like better ground and Philip Fenton’s comments left a big impression on me because he is not one of these trainers that thinks all his geese are swans.
Of course I make this kind of logical argument for a lot of horses before the big day and most manage to show that I know nothing. But this horse, as a bumper horse has it all.I think you wont see Notre Pere in the gold cup next year.

He certainly wasn’t stopping at the end of The Ballymore Grassy, and Willie Mullins did say after the race that he saw him as much more an RSA prospect than an Arkle?
Given the leisurely pace most Irish races seem to be run at, I dont envisage any stamina problems, and look forward to him drifting in tomorrow’s betting.April 30, 2009 at 08:56 #224479

Sorrry Harry I totally misunderstood what you were saying. Can’t say I have seen anything win the Champion Bumper any easier.
I wasn’t impressed at all by last years winner which is well documented on here and with any bumper horse I usually adopt a wait and see policy.
We are often fooled into thinking we have just seen a superstar of the future in bumpers, but when they put up those hurdles in front of them the form turns out not to be worth as much as we hoped.
Perhaps it’s down to the fact that most top hurdlers are not 2 mile flat horses which in a sense bumper horses are.
However he does look to have some engine on him and I wouldn’t be backing against him when he does go hurdling. With the rep he has you can bet your boot he’ll be unbackable so as I say a watching brief is the best policy with these horses.
April 30, 2009 at 12:31 #224502Notre Pere was very impressive yesterday.
Didn’t put a foot wrong when jumping and won it easily in the end.

Powerstation as mentioned here is also a good selection, was staying on in the Ladbrokes.com Hurdle at Fairyhouse this month and has proven he gets the trip when finishing second behind Fair Along in a Listed event at Cheltenham last year.
Watching it yesterday it looked like it was going heavy and i feel that Whatuthink can also be in the shake up, might not have such a top profile as some of these in the race, but he was given a spin on the flat at Tipperary over 14f in heavy conditions and scooted clear to win by 6L,but has been beaten by Powerstation and Duc De Regniere in Grade company but as i feel the ground is going to play in his favour and could run well.
Good Luck what ever you play

Trendsman
Welcome!
Fair Along also ‘proved’ he stayed the trip in the same race as Powerstation, but he certainly didn’t get it against better horses in he World Hurdle.
Class will out.April 30, 2009 at 12:59 #224505Only bet i have on at the moment is PaddyPlasterer @ 7/4. I’m a bit coy on that 3m hurdler at the minute.

Agree with you on Fiveforthree Grasshopper but Powerstation for me doesn’t win enough races he is entitled to. EW at 11/2 should ensure your money back at least though. Like Trendsman I would give Whatuthink a chance on todays ground and it wouldn’t suprise me at all if Brave Inca was in the shake up either.
