Morning all, probably a bit early for some but yes the Footie season is almost upon us again.
I had a look at the Premier League Top Goalscorer odds last night and at first glance i was quite taken by the 35/1 that i have seen at Betfair, but as that is win only i will have to back him E/W at 16/1 elsewhere.
The player in question is Carlos Tevez, i thought a quite viable option to the more fancied one’s.
Anybody got any other thoughts.
Cheers .
Adrian.
July 23, 2008 at 18:55 #174463Hi Adrian,
Tevez IS capable of bagging bags of goals but will he start in enough games to give him a realistic chance? Maybe IF Ronaldo jumps ship and Berbatov stays put then 33’s (& 16’s) might be a steal: hope it pays off for you.
I was hoping I’d see a decent price for Jermain Defoe, a player not as talented as Tevez but well capable of bagging 20+ when played regularly, something he hasn’t had in his years at Spurs. But, he’s only 15’s (to finish top) with Betfair which is a bit scrawny. I was hoping for at least 28’s.
A couple of prices that did make me look twice though – and both relate to proven goalscores who, barring injuries, are capable of hitting 20+ were Peter Crouch and Michael Owen – 41/1 to a few pounds.
Okay, some might say it’s 40/1+ about Owen keeping fit for more than half the season, but if he can steer clear of injuries, he’ll surely start more games than he’ll sit on the subs bench. Crouch too should be a regular starter, and his pairing up front with Defoe is one that might just put the sh**s up a lot of fancy-dan defences.
So, as there’s no point in sitting on the fence in this sort of thing, my selection – Michael Owen 41/1 with Betfair to be top scorer. [/b]July 23, 2008 at 22:41 #174515Absolutely no originality from me Fernando Torres all the way.

July 23, 2008 at 23:05 #174524Insomniac, good luck with Michael Owen, a sporting bet at a working man’s price, I for one would never underestimate him and at that price I think he has been.
But without having a bet I’ll happily take the 20+ goals each for Defoe and Crouch
July 24, 2008 at 09:30 #174555Why is Adebayor available at 26 when he almost certainly will be Arsenal’s main striker this season? I think that’s a cracking price as a back to lay option.
