Just thought of a shocking ommission in the villain of the year category – the ambulance chasing lawyer going after Ian Semple et al. Absolute pond slime.
October 26, 2007 at 16:16 #121531Surely Great Leighs is shoo-in for racecourse of the year. Fifty one fixtures in 2007 and I haven’t backed a single loser there.
AP

On that basis I wonder what ante-post I can get on Ffos Las picking up the same award in 2009!

October 26, 2007 at 16:20 #121532Get me a name, Glenn, and I’ll put him up and probably vote for him (Lord Donoughue could get VERY lucky this year).
Perhaps members of the legal profession should have their own category along with genocidal maniacs…
October 26, 2007 at 16:22 #121534Ian Davies is a great suggestion for Villain of The Year as well. Thanks, Jilly.
October 26, 2007 at 16:27 #121539MOST MISSED FORUMITE OF THE YEAR…
Three-Way Tie
[b:3rdpazci]GAMBLE
JILLY[BLUSH]
IAN DAVIES[/b:3rdpazci]
How about most entertaining Thread of the year

Seconded.
October 28, 2007 at 13:47 #121855fair enough gc, it was partly tongue in cheek and partly in defence of my local track but also meant as it does provide good racing all year round. if criteria are high-rating quality horses and races, prize money, etc, it won’t make the short list but racing would be a lot poorer without it imo
on a more serious note, shouldn’t there be sperate male/female jockeys nominations and shouldn’t hayley be in there, as well as frankie who is the most well known jockey of toady and probably most popular in terms of the general public ?
also when it comes to owners, what about those who have many horses but not masses of top class success, like paul dixon ?
maybe off the wall a bit but that might work here, how about photo of the year, but taken and provided by forum members ? i’m sure lots here take the odd snap at the races …

Blimey. There’s nothing like a sweeping generalisation, is there?
October 28, 2007 at 15:37 #121884I think that there should be a category

October 28, 2007 at 15:40 #121886On Poster of The Year I was hoping that there might be some sort of a consensus. There hasn’t been so far, and I think it may be best to drop this category. There is enough mutual back-slapping in this game already without us adding to it.
Less than twelve hours before this post you were nominating thedarkknight for newbie of the year. Is constitency not one of your strong points Pru?

Cheekster
That was an ‘in’ joke referring to longstanding member Thedarkknight’s membership being temporarily cancelled (along with others) when the site had a makeover last summer, so he was reinstated as a new member and ‘lost’ 1000+ posts.
October 28, 2007 at 18:55 #121938Thanks, Drone.
October 28, 2007 at 18:58 #121942The Ian Davies as "Villain of The Year" comment was also a "joke", just in case anyone thought otherwise.
I think I’ll stick to being "po-faced".
October 28, 2007 at 20:25 #121981Does that mean your bracketing of lawyers with "genocidal maniacs" wasn’t a joke, then, Pru?
I have a writ handy…
October 28, 2007 at 20:26 #121984Nice to know we even get genocidal maniacs on this forum, Gus. I didn’t think of them as a particularly touchy breed, but you live and learn.
October 28, 2007 at 20:49 #121992Guilty, Aranalde.
October 28, 2007 at 20:59 #122000John Magnier/Aidan O’Brien/Seamus Heffernan – all combined as one are a shoo in for the Villian of the year surely?!!??!?!?
