Hadn’t noticed that Burrough Hill Lad.
As you say I shouldn’t think he will dwell in the stalls today.
The trip is almost 7 furlongs and Carlisle is a track with an emphasis on stamina, so it may suit a hold up horse anyway.
The rest of my thoughts are knownJuly 25, 2010 at 09:48 #308513The jockey’s 3.57% strike rate this season is too big a risk for me though a place bet seems reasonable. Too many question marks to be a serious bet anytime. Hope I’m proven wrong.
KJuly 25, 2010 at 09:57 #308514Hi Coggy, maybe I didn’t make myself clear … given how regularly the old boy tries to recreate the Hamlet advert in the stalls, I think there’s every chance the words "dwelt" or "slowly into stride" will appear on his CV yet again today.
Very rarely runs over 7f these days so will be interesting to see if it gives him long enough to get over another tardy start … he only has one short burst in him though so it has to be timed absolutely right.
Still, if it’s not his day, he’s entered again at Leicester on Wednesday
July 25, 2010 at 10:07 #308519Hi Burrough Hill Lad
Sorry, I misunderstood. I thought that you meant that the apprentice would kick him out quicker and then hold him up, as he did when he won on him.
Still he is entered at Musselburgh on Thursday alsoJuly 25, 2010 at 10:15 #308522Dickie…to horse in next stable… "At last I can have a lie in this Sunday morning, put my feet up and read the papers."
Neighbour… "Yes Dickie, you have been on the go a bit lately, haven’t you. Personally, I don’t know how you find the energy to be racing so often."
Dickie…… "Oh, it’s easy, I’ve got it sussed. I have a bit of a sit down in the stalls, canter behind the other mugs for a few furlongs and then only put some effort in coming into the final furlong. It’s a lot easier on the old muscles and I get a day out at the races, meet a few nice fillies and to top it all I get an extra feed thrown in. You should try it."
Neighbour…"What’s that horse box just drawn into the yard for? Looks as if it’s for you Dickie."
Dickie… "Oh sugar. Just as I was enjoying the sports section. Never mind, another day, another dollar."July 25, 2010 at 10:34 #308533Very good
Sorry to hear about your ankle mate – speedy recoveryJuly 25, 2010 at 11:05 #308538Very kind of you Coggy. Thank you.
The only trouble is that it leaves far too much time stuck in front of this monitor instead of sailing my ocean-going luxury yacht down to St.Tropez for the Summer….dream on.

July 25, 2010 at 14:03 #308565Useful workout. Why spoil the grass at home when you can train at the racecourse and give your apprentice a bit more experience?

"Slowly into stride, soon switched right, behind, headway under pressure over 1f out, weakened inside final furlong"
Well done Dickie, knew you wouldn’t let me down … roll on Wednesday

Ken, a spookily accurate description of how it panned out for Dickie today … you sure you haven’t had your ear to the stable door ? … Any chance you can have a listen in before Wednesday’s race to see if he’s in the mood ?
July 25, 2010 at 18:01 #308615Very good posts Conundrum and Burrough Hill Lad.
I actually believe him to be on a winning mark if he puts his best hoof forwards.
He has won in the past of marks of 90 and 85 (twice). He is currently racing off 63 and his last win came around 12 months ago off 64. The problem being that he has ran and failed to win 26 times in that periodJuly 25, 2010 at 18:21 #308622Burrough Hill Lad wrote….Well done Dickie, knew you wouldn’t let me down … roll on Wednesday
The good news for Dickie is that he’s also down to run the night after. Musselburgh and Leicester on consecutive nights…surely not?
….this horse needs to get in touch with Social Services and demand to be taken into care.
KJuly 27, 2010 at 12:43 #309068Once more unto the breach …
Yes, back again after a couple of days lazing around in his box for the 8.20 at Leicester on Wednesday night.
At least he can have a lie-in the following morning seeing as he’s been taken out of his Thursday Musselburgh engagement.
July 28, 2010 at 18:58 #309459Just received a telegram direct from Leicester racecourse. Reads as follows:-
Ken..old mate…I’m running in 8.20…bit of a long day for me but got to keep the owners happy….think I’ll give it a real go tonight….might earn a bit of a holiday…. 10/1 is a bit skinny so be careful…I’ll try my best for you…give my regards to my supporters at TRF.
Yours
Dickie DJuly 28, 2010 at 19:07 #309462Seems to be a bit of early money for him.
Lets hope he wins and gets a bit of a break.Hows your ankle Ken ?
July 28, 2010 at 19:14 #309466Thanks for asking Coggy. Great news…fracture not as bad as first feared. Back to walking with minimal pain/limp so hopefully recovery period much reduced…hope Dickie does the biz…he deserves it.
Cheers
