Did anyone see that ride ? I am speechless.

No, what happened
I was on the winner, Divertimenti…July 22, 2010 at 19:19 #307966Lost many lengths at start. Jockey content to cruise several lengths behind the field. Seemed to be going very well despite the deficit. Some effort to move closer to the field about furlong and a half out. Still appeared to have plenty of horse beneath him. Timid pushing on the reigns a furlong out when all other jockeys were very animated. Horse finished like a train though got going far too late to catch the winner. With another furlong would probably have won easily. One to note for the future. My only criticism would be that Matthew backed the winner, allegedly.
KJuly 22, 2010 at 19:20 #307968Missed break and dwelt, switched in running, ran on well beaten around 4 1/2 lengths.
What concerns me more is that this is the poor horse’s 16th run in 6 months !July 22, 2010 at 19:24 #307970I’ve backed Dickie before, it’s a hold up horse isn’t it?
Let’s face it Paul Eddery should have turned it in years ago, how old is he now?
July 22, 2010 at 19:25 #307971Could understand Coggy’s concern if we were talking of a three mile chaser but over six furlongs? Some hacks cover more than that most days of the week.

Must be quite stressful all the travelling though, one of my biggest criticism’s of some
Owners is greed and there are those that run their poor animals into the ground.Give the poor things a rest.
July 22, 2010 at 19:34 #307974Can’t recall a 6 furlong animal trained by Messrs O’Brien, Stoute, Cecil et al running 16 times in 6 months guys – I wonder why. Racing itself is stressful enough but the travelling as well up and down to places such as Hamilton is just imho just greed and too much for a horse

Yeah, exactly as I pointed out Coggy.
July 22, 2010 at 19:40 #307977Agreed Matthew. The poor thing should be given more time between races or a break at some time
July 22, 2010 at 19:43 #30797916 times in 6 months is nothing for a sprinter. Look at Transfixed last night having her 50th run in about 16 months.

How do you know how the poor horse is feeling, a bit like a horse having to. Compete on the national, I disagree with that aswell, but that’s a separate argument.
July 22, 2010 at 19:50 #307982Read his form …
The horse invariably dwells or starts slowly … more or less every single one of his 9 wins contains the remark "held up" …
His running style always leaves him vulnerable to a horse that skips out of the stalls and doesn’t come back to the field … as with Divertimenti today …
Finally, I’m not sure any of us are qualified to comment on the horse’s wellbeing in terms of the frequency of his outings … again, look at his record … he is clearly a horse that thrives on his racing …
The reference to "the greed of his owners" is, in my opinion, grossly unfair and totally irrelevant to the original point of this post, which was to highlight a potentially injudicious ride by Paul Eddery.

Is it any worse than Matthew writing 466 posts in three months? After all guys, what’s good for horses is good for humans. So give the poor thing a rest otherwise he’ll end up with writer’s cramp.

Hahahaha.
I love a good debate, especially when it involves Horse Racing, Sports etc.July 22, 2010 at 19:56 #30798616 times in 6 months is nothing for a sprinter. Look at Transfixed last night having her 50th run in about 16 months.

… er, Matthew … if you don’t mind me saying, I think you’ve just contradicted your own argument …
"How do you know how the poor horse is feeling" ? … that’s exactly the point … you don’t and I don’t … he probably loves his racing and would sulk like hell if left to kick his heels in his box.
Just my opinion, but I think the trainer and stable staff are probably best placed to make that judgement, don’t you ?
July 22, 2010 at 19:59 #307987Sorry to disagree Bluechariot and Burrough Hill Lad, and I do respect your opinions, but you do not see a sprinter from the yards of O’Brien, Stoute, and Cecil running that often (even the less talented inmates) – and there is a reason for that
