Does anyone have any idea as to what horses will be intending to go for the Paddy Power Gold Cup this year?
I’m trying to compile a 10 to follow list and as this is usually the first bonus race, was hoping to find something that might run in this, and maybe even give a couple of pointers towards the Hennessy…..any thoughts would be welcome.
    Cheers

Any thoughts on the 1st big race of the jump season.

I think the race Noble Prince when he beat Wishfull Think at cd in March was a strong race though they have big weights i go for both
    NOBLE PRINCE and WISHFULL THINKING.

Have to agree with that. Have long thought Noble Prince to be a serious horse. Am still smarting from when they ran him in the County Hurdle when he looked a standout to me for the Coral Cup. The form with Wishfull looks strong.

Really fancy Billie Magern for this, there was enough to like about his last run at the track. Don’t see any reason why he can’t run another big race there, unless there’s a downpour. NTD’s runners in this race are always worthy of respect. 25’s seems a very fair e/w price, even at this stage.

Of the others, Mon Parrain, would be an obvious choice, surely a big season awaits for him, and wouldn’t surprise me to see Pipe have Great Endeavour spot on, to banish memories of his flop in this last year.

    Noble Alan

who has been unlucky twice when looking very dangerous in his most recent races at and beyond 21f. He was going very well before tipping up in the December Gold cup last year and again more recently at Market Rasen. He seems well handicapped at distances above 2 1/2 miles if he could just keep himself off the ground.

Divers is an obvious contender for the race and it looks as though the Centenary Novices Chase at Cheltenham holds many of the key form lines. I’m more interested in

    Quantativeeasing

from that race. He’s nearly twice the price of Divers, has a 3lbs pull for that race and is a year younger making me think he’s had a bit more growing to do. AP will surely be on board because Sunnyhillboy is a National Horse in the making.

Current shortlist has Mon Parrain, Wishful Thinking and Noble Prince, not sure what to do from here though!

I was on Noble Alan at Market Rasen – ouch ! I think he is well handicaped and has the class to win this. Not a ‘lucky’ horse though. Maybe his confidence will be boosted when he wins at Kelso on Saturday :D

I have one question. When Wishful Thinking wins this and he will, where will he go next

Assuming your prophecy is correct, my guess would be the winner’s enclosure.

If he’s declared for Kelso then the trainer obviously doesn’t think he’ll get in without a penalty. He’s 8 horses outside the cut and I can only see two I’m confident won’t run (

    Sunnyhillboy

    and

    Medermit

    ). Any one think

    Poquelin

    will run?

    Blazing Tempo

    and

    Muirhead

    are 120/1+ on Betfair so I guess that’s 4.

    Gilbarry

has been taken out of the betting too – 5.

    Ghizao

fell the other day and is out to 180+ so that’s 6. (Quantitativeeasing in!)

    Gauvain

doesn’t look like running at 170.

Theres no jockey booked yet on Noble Alan for Kelso so maybe he won’t go there.

Actually, the top 8 look vulnerable if Poquelin wobbles. That would leave Mon Parrain on 11-10. I’m sure Nichols will convince Stewart to keep him in for the team.

Having looked at everything my early selection is Billie Magern, Divers could well come back to form though at his favourite course 8)

Noble Prince beat Wishfull in the Jewson both on 11-4, NP now has less weight than WT for this…
    NP for me then!

    Loosen My Load 16/1 e/w

In last years Jewson he finished 3rd behind Noble prince and Wishful Thinking. He has an 11lb pull for 5L beating from Wishful Thinking and 7lb for a 9l beating off Noble prince.

Loosen My Load spoiled his chance by running too free though that day and i think he could have been a lot closer.

He is a great jumper which the winner of this will need to be. He also likes quicker ground which he should get on Saturday.

He’s had a couple of runs this season so should be fit and ready to run a good race. You can ignore his 2nd last time out on unsuitable very soft ground.

16/1 e/w looks good value to me.
